Boat Friday for a Mid-Week Break

Don't spend it all in one place.

(Avalon casino on Santa Catalina Island, California, 2004)

Tomorrow daughter Amy arrives from Atlanta for a week's break between jobs, visiting us for the first time.

I realize this is a Boat Friday image but it also happens to be one of Amy's favorite places on earth.

She and brother Mark were on Catalina Island with Bill and me every year throughout their childhood.

A lovely tribute to your daughter. I hope you all have a wonderful time smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Cherry. We're so excited we can hardly stand it!
Have a great time, Ginnie, this looks quite a place.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Frank. Catalina Island is a rugged island except for it's only incorporated city, Avalon. It's a lovely place for tourists!

love, love the blue waters
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Sherri. One of the memories you never forget!
I thought I recognized that spot!
Lovely, Ginnie! I hope you all have a wonderful visit!! You must be so excited!
Ginnie Hart: I am so very excited, yes, Elizabeth. G'son Nicholas, son Mark, brother Nelson, sister Ruth...all have been here thus far. Now it's Amy's turn!
Jolie photo qui donne envie de visiter cet endroit.
Ginnie Hart: You'd love it there, Martine.

Sounds like you are in for an exciting week Ginnie

Bath has got a casino now, we used to have them in Georgian times of old..
Ginnie Hart: I don't recall ever stepping foot inside this one, Chris, but it was always such a welcoming sight when we arrived from the mainland.

What a memory to share and a wonderful tribute for Amy, Ginnie. I know she has happy memories here. I wonder how much this place has changed over the years.
Ginnie Hart: Definitely one of Amy's happy places, Astrid! It never seemed to change over all the years we were there.
Beautiful architecture and colors. Nice tribute Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Merci, Marie. It takes me way way to when the kids were young, 40+ years ago!

Mmemem... I can just imagine the warmth of the California sunshine and the laid back life style. Despite going to California a fair number of times, I've never been to the island.
Ginnie Hart: If you ever get the chance, Alan, I think you'd like it there...though it's the rugged island itself you would probably most want to see. Avalon becomes almost a ghost town during off-season, which you also would probably love. smile
Plus que les bateaux, c'est sur cette magnifique architecture que je m'attarde, et dans un très bel environnement.
Merci et bonne journée Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Merci, Pascale. This casino is definitely a landmark for the entire island!
Un lieu souvenir qui semble bien agreable
Bonne pause en famille
Ginnie Hart: Merci, Claudine! We're really looking forward to this time.
Knowing you and Astrid you will cram so much into her visit!
Ginnie Hart: Believe it or not, Bill, we're planning on a much more leisurely time with Amy, watching good movies and really enjoying each other. We will, of course, see Kinderdijk and the other side of the river (the castle and Woudrichem)...and we plan to eat mussels in Antwerp on Saturday, just so she can say she's been to another country (just one-hour's drive from us).

What an impressive building! What for lovely memories for you and your family! A wonderful time with Amy, another member of your big family will be visiting you now! Great!
Ginnie Hart: YES YES YES, Philine. We are so happy! smile
Wat een heerlijke week heb je dus voor de boeg....genietse
En wat een mooi stekje en prachtige herinneringen.
Veel plezier
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Marjolein. We're really looking forward to our time together.

Bel endroit
JP
Ginnie Hart: It is, JP. Merci.
Superb architecture, good photo shot! nice day to you Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Roland...from 15 years ago!
Such a pretty picture! I'm sure that Amy will love it!! I know I do smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Elaine. I do think it will put a smile on her face. smile

A gorgeous view that you've captured here! Had you not mentioned location, I would never have thought this was in California. Have fun with Amy!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you on both counts, Steven!
You can have boats any day of the week, my dear. So glad Amy is going to visit!
Ginnie Hart: So true about boats, Mary. HA! And YES about Amy. we're all super excited.
What a lovely place to visit and it has such good memories for you, the way you have written about it tells us that. have a great time with Amy, make the most of every minute, you are a long way apart most of the time.
Ginnie Hart: So many memories, indeed, Brian. We usually only see each other once a year, so this is an extra special treat...and to finally have her HERE with us.
some of those poor boaters may not be able to afford gas to leave Ginnie....peter
Ginnie Hart: True, perhaps, Peter, unless they have more where that came from? grin
That's a very curious building.
Ginnie Hart: A landmark for the island, Tom!
it is no wonder, judging from your excellent shot of this place, especially that you all had a strong family connection here, that this place is special for your daughter, Ginnie. all the best to her for her next professional phase.
Ginnie Hart: You're spot on, Ayush! Thank you.

The ocean offers the losers a way out - less messy for the casino owners.

Looks a great place. Enjoy your visitor.
Ginnie Hart: HA! I really like the way you think, Louis. grin
