Our only excursion off the ship while sailing along the Norwegian fjords was to the Lofoten Islands.

Love that foggy backdrop, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Ray. I will never tire of fog anywhere, I'm sure of it. smile

haha.. that's so dreary.. smile looks like a sleepy town though.. smile
Ginnie Hart: Dreary is something I love in pictures, Rian, which makes me very weird, I know! grin Wiki says this town is 'over 500' in population. Sleepy is probably a good word for it. Thanks.

I REALLY want to sail through the Norwegian Fjords...someday I will make it there! Beautiful photo Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: You would absolutely love the trip if ever you can do it, Peter. I highly recommend it. Thanks.
Fabulous shot. I like the darkness of it. Wonderful colour.
Ginnie Hart: This particular excursion started at 6 p.m. and lasted till 9:30 p.m., ending up in the dark. I'm just glad it wasn't too dark at the beginning when we saw this little town. Thanks, Michael.

So strange to see a Chrysler mini-van parked on an island in a Norwegian fjord. Somewhat surreal, Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: You and your eagle eye, Alex! I know. Two worlds existing side by side. Thanks.

The weather was 'perfect' for a lot of dramatic pictures, however I would not mind to see it in full sunlight one day.
To me, to see the codfish hanging all over the place, was a amazing to me (like here under the roof at the right side of this house)
Wonderful picture, so Norwegian wink
Ginnie Hart: Sunshine would make it appear like a different place altogether, MLMA, I'm sure. Not that I don't like the sun, of course, but you know I'm really partial to the fog. smile I'll show a close-up of the hanging codfish next week. Totally worth the whole trip! So Norwegian, indeed. HA! Bedankt.
You have captured it all so very well Ginnie....this scene gave you everything...reflections...quaint colourful houses....and you even have mist and a mountain out back....
it's hard to compete with all of this
....so i won'tgrin
i love it more than your Cod Liver Oil collage....but that was funnier!!!....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: You're very kind and sweet, Peter. Thank you. Definitely better than any cod liver oil collage, any day! smile Thanks.

The red grabbed me at first, but then the reflection fascinated me and the fog is fantastic. What a shot!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Margaret. It was an enchanting place, as you can imagine.

Particularly like the reflections and the mountain in the background. Very dramatic
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, SAVO. This is my kind of drama, as you already know. smile

Its a great scene, love the mist and mountains in background! Colorful houses added sense of life and so cute wink
Ginnie Hart: That house color is so very Norwegian, Arash, so you can almost immediately know this is a Scandinavian scene. Thank you.

Yes, it looks really Norwegian -and the impressive Lofoten mountains in the misty background - that looks very atmospheric and a bit mysterious - to see the Lofoten Islands one day- this might be one of my dreams!
Ginnie Hart: You would absoloutely love this sea voyage and excursion, Philine. I will wish it for you one day. It will take your breath away! Bedankt.

Perfect indeed. An image of Norway as we know it.
Great shot!
Have a nice day!
Ginnie Hart: More Norwegian you cannot get, Fokkio. So true. Thank you!

It makes me COLD just to look at this Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: It was definitely cold that day, Chris, but manageable! We did a lot of fast walking since our time was limited. That kept us warm. smile
That is how I always imagined a Norwegian Fishing village would look!!
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Marion. I know what you mean. smile Thanks.
Atmospheric comes to mind Ginnie smile
Ginnie Hart: You can say that again, Bill. smile Thanks.

It does look prefect. Pretty and perfect.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Kanyi. I could see you doing a photo shoot there. smile
It looks very wintery in this picture Ginnie, is that house there on stilts?
Ginnie Hart: There were still patches of snow around, Stanley, so yes, it was still quite cold. And yes, those are stilts, at least on one end of the structure. I think the back part was on solid ground.
I loved those little fisher villages when I was there in 2006
Ginnie Hart: They're wonderful, Chantal, aren't they!

Lovely capture Ginnie the red brightens and contrasts the fog
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Aussie. It's so good to see you again! smile
One of your previous shots of Norway reminded me of Newfoundland. This does too. Love this shot.
Ginnie Hart: Hmmm. Now you've got my curiosity, Mary. I need to read up a bit on Newfoundland! Thanks.
Wow, what a fabulous image. I love this setting and the gloomy feel of the low light and fog.
Ginnie Hart: Truth be known, Doug, I love this kind of atmosphere better than a sunny day. But don't tell anyone I said that! smile Thanks.
i can't believe how beautiful it is over there, you're so blessed my friend... wonderful picture!!!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Elaine. It's one of the world's best kept secrets, I do believe!

Somehow looks just as I imagine it would. Love the color..the rich misty background. Such a lovely scene!
Ginnie Hart: Some of the same colors from Frida in Sweden, Marcie, so I wonder if it's Scandinavian? I fell in love with the country. smile Thanks.
What a beautiful photo, I love the reflection of the dock most.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Ryan. The reflection was a nice plus.
Were's the Vikings? What, oh, wrong country. lol! Indeed, have to agree, love the moody atmosphere in this one, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Actually, Norway IS the country of the Vikings, Alex, so you're right. smile I loved this excursion. It gave us a much different feel than what we saw from the ship. Thanks.
Very nice shot. With the fog and the reflections in the water, this really stands out.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Jimi, for stopping by and commenting!

by the look of your settings also pretty dark!!!
Ginnie Hart: It was getting pretty late, Mark, after 7 p.m. and with no sun, you're right. Within an hour it was almost too dark for any other pictures. We were lucky to see this when we did. Thanks.
Mary is correct, Ginnie. This marvellous capture is very reminiscent of Newfoundland and, to me, some of the fishing villages of Nova Scotia, also; without the mountain backdrops, of course. But you will find foggy conditions a plenty.
Ginnie Hart: I love the thought of that, Beverly, since I visited that area years ago. I just don't remember it that well. That means I need to go back! smile Thanks.

Great crackin' sky!

So many good things about this image!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Ken. My kind of sky and place. smile
It certainly does look a bit chilly Ginnie, just how one thinks of that part of the world.
Ginnie Hart: There were patches of snow around, Brian, so yes, it was chilly. But we loved it. Thanks.

This seems very broody Ginnie. Good photograph though.
Ginnie Hart: Broody is a good word, Chad. I like that. smile Thanks.
The buildings add a great splash of colour to the scene Ginnie but I expect it's a different world in the sunshine
Ginnie Hart: I'm sure you're right, Janet. It would look like a different place altogether! Thanks.
Not exactly the best of conditions for pics!
Ginnie Hart: My kind of of place and conditions, Tom, truth be knowm. smile Thanks.
The colours of the houses give a warming feel to the cold outlook.
I bet they are really snug inside smile
Ginnie Hart: I LOVE their colors, Linda, and saw them all over Norway. Very Scandinavian, I think. And yes, they all look very snug. smile Thanks.

Oh I love foggy weather when I explore a new place. Gives me reason to reach for that 3rd cup of joe smile

I love the looks of this fishing village. Were there gift shops, etc?
Ginnie Hart: I'm with you with weather like this, Maria. I'm sure there were gift shops since this is one of the main tourist stops for cruise excursions. But we weren't looking, so didn't see them. smile It was already 7-8 p.m. so I don't even know if they would have been open? Probably, since we were there. HA!

Ah.... So English - minus the village buildings. wink
I'm sure you'll love our English weather too! Ha!
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, LC. I'm a redhead and can't take too much sun, so I've learned to enjoy weather like this. smile Thanks.

Oh! I remember, I now know I'm home! in "my"land of mist and wonder! Thank you for this image Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Mathilde. I'm sure you remember this well! I'll never forget it. Merci.
That desire to know the Scandinavian countries and to photograph all these places. A greeting.

hello, amazing weather during your stay in Lofoten. I went last September with the gray sky and the deep blue sky too. It's beautiful the islands.
I will make my other blog if you want to see more photos of Norway.

long ago I went to see your photos. I struggled to find you.
See you soon.
Ginnie Hart: I'm so glad you found me, Sylvie. We had such a great time in Norway on our Hurtigruten post-boat cruise. We'll never forget it. If you start here and then go forward, you'll see the entire cruise: http://ginniehart.blogspot.com/2011/04/hurtigruten-ms-vesteralen.html. But the part for our Lofoten trip is here: http://ginniehart.blogspot.com/2011/05/hurtigruten-lofoten-islands-excursion.html.

Thank you again for stopping by.
