Ripe for the Picking

Before September leaves us, the Elstar harvest is still plentiful here in The Netherlands.

I love this time of the year!

Happy Birthday to my daughter, Amy (38 tomorrow)!

...and looking very crunchy!
Ginnie Hart: Very crisp and crunchy indeed, Ray. One of my favorite apples now that I have been lucky enough to try one.
How utterly beautiful, Ginnie, and so appropriate for this time of year.

Best Wishes to Amy on her birthday.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Beverly. I have childhood memories of the apple pickers in Michigan at this time of the year. It's part of why I love autumn. smile

This brings back memories of the time I picked them (as a job)in the same orchard we were shooting the pictures.
Love the way the sun is on the apples, great close-up.
Best for you Amy, on your birthday tomorrow smile
Ginnie Hart: It was fun to see up close and personal where you worked those few years during picking season, MLMA. I still am amazed by how these apple trees are grown, up the side of a pole. Hartstikke bedankt.

The apples look delicious.

Thanks for taking a look at the Marilyn Manson shots. Was one of the better assignments I had years ago. He's actually a quiet guy. Was a cool opportunity when I worked a lot more on assignments like that.

why did it say i was from Germany lol... i'm seeeerious, my dog's a hoarder, i get the feeling if we took away any of his stuff he would get depressed, and he's always stealing the neighbor's dog's toys and bones and such too lol
Ginnie Hart: Every time I see you're from Germany I just smile, Elaine. If you were, you'd wouldn't be that far away from us! A meet-up would be possible. smile

LOL at your dog. You may be right. Gotta pay attention to these things about our 'children.'
Perfect composition Ginnie ! And I love the tones and colors !
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Ferdi. These Elstars have become my favorite apples!
Lovely apples!!! Happy birthday to Amy smile

Ginnie Hart: Now that's a great idea, Jojo. Thanks for the idea. smile Merci.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Andrei.

It's certainly been a good year here in the UK too Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: So glad to hear it, Chris. We saw incredible pears, too, the same day!
Appeltjes van Oranje!

Very scrumptious apples!! I slightly prefer the Cox Orange, those are very seasonal apples and even more crunchy.

Happy B-day Amy! 38 is still a youngster!!
Ginnie Hart: I'll have to find out about the Cox Orange, Marion--a new one for me. But I sure am a fan of the Elstars. I'm eating them every day now they're in season!

And yes, Amy is still a youngster in some ways but a very wise, mature woman in others! I'm very proud of her.

Likey quality, these Elstars.

I remember peeling these apples, cooking them on the set with some cinnamon sticks. Excellent with some custard - preferably the homemade custard, still hot.
Ginnie Hart: As I reply, Louis, I'm eating an Elstar for lunch. Seriously. smile That's one darn-good apple. I can just imagine your concoction with homemade custard. What a treat that would be! Thanks for the thought.

I'd like a big bite right now, thank you. These look like the very best apples (and I know they are because you already said so smile.
Ginnie Hart: It's lunchtime right now, Ruth, and I've just eaten an Elstar! It doesn't get much better than that when it comes to apples. I still have such fond memories of when the flatbed trucks went by our parsonage in Pullman, loaded with bushels of apples with the pickers sitting on top. We'd be raking leaves outside and jumping in them...and would yell "APPLES!" Next thing you knew we'd be catchintg apples as they were thrown to us. I wonder how many kids today will ever get that experience!

Thank you, sister, for stopping by!

I've not come across this variety before, they look fine in your shot Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: They are scrumptious, Brian. I highly recommend the variety if you ever have a chance to eat one. Thanks.

Lovely picture for Amy's birthday smile

Clever how they've decided to grow espaliers, it makes the fruit so much easier to pick.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Ellie. This is my favorite time of the year, and hers, too! Astrid says they purposely grow them this way for easy picking...no ladders. After 15 years they cut them all down and start all over again with a fresh batch.

thea are really tasty, mucn more than the ones in our garden, all of which are worm-eaten or rotten
Ginnie Hart: I guess they have to do something to keep these from worms, Grapf, though I'm not sure what. I sure love these Elstars, though. So crisp, crunchy and sweet. smile Thanks.
An apple a day...
