Seniority

Yesterday I celebrated my BIG 6-5 birthday.
I'm guessing it's a milestone in almost every country these days.

So that's the big excitement about being 65? Senior discounts - at last!! Hope you had a wonderful birthday and weekend away. Love the image. Almost as old as you - HA!
Ginnie Hart: Yup. Senior discounts. AT LAST! grin It was a great weekend, Marcie, full of stuff I love...driving south of Maastricht for a day, then a B&B and the castle and gardens of Arcen yesterday. I'm pumb tuckered out but with a big smile. Thanks.

Looks a bit overgrown on the ground Ginnie, great detail shot though of what looks like a big locomotive, I think I would have liked this event.

Happy Birthday for Yesterday, I do hope you enjoyed yourself.
Ginnie Hart: Trains always seem so huge to me, Les...almost overpowering. They are more awesome to me than airplanes, if that makes sense:? You definitely would have loved this event, along with several others I know on SC. We thought of you all, taking these pictures for YOU. smile Thanks.

Such wonderful clarity, Senior discounts never thought of those a big plus for the big 65
Ginnie Hart: I may be crazy, JJ, but I will love all the discounts I can get. Yesterday I save €2.50 at the Arcen castle and gardens in south Holland. Enough for an ice cream. grin Thanks.

What! Working your Oldies Concession Card already, Ginnie!

Gorgeous image.
Ginnie Hart: With no embarrassment whatsoever, Ray! I have no shame! grin Thanks.

Excellent shot of the...dare I say...OLD train, only slightly older than you! Ha!! Hope your day was wonderful Ginnie!! Senior Discounts ! Woo hoo!! grin
Ginnie Hart: I'm laughing, Toni, because I LOVE old things...so it doesn't make sense if I don't like ME being old. (I think anything older than 40 years is considered antique, right?) I sure will love saving money, so I'm smiling all the way to the bank. Yesterday I saved €2.50 at the castle and gardens in Arcen...enough for a free ice cream. grin

grin Senior Discounts is a right you deserve, I only hope they believe you/us when we ask for it when buying tickets....you don't look like a 'real' senior wink
Great picture, that train is still going strong, like you...
Ginnie Hart: I hope in 5 more years I'm as strong as this train, MLMA. I'd be a happy camper, for sure. Today I'm feeling my age after 2 days of walking. But I'm feeling restored by the minute. grin Hartstikke bedanke for such a wonderful birthday celebration.
Power. And more power to you.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you and thank you, Odd. I need all the power I can get. grin

great train, don't tell me it's still in use! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! that IS indeed a milestone you should be proud of!! how much is the senior's discount? are you rich now? smile and thank you for the touching comment on my blog... ((hugs))
Ginnie Hart: This is the steam train we rode when we were at the Steam Festival, Elaine. YES, it works. It might be a bit slow but it works just fine! Thanks and you're welcome!

A fine & powerful shot Ginnie. I hope you enjoy the fruits of maturity for many years to come
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Chris. You and me both! smile
A fine looking beast. I'm all for the senior discounts, but I can't get my bus pass until July as they have changed the rules!
Ginnie Hart: Arrrgh, Bill. Sorry to hear you still have to wait but July will be here before you know it. Thanks.

Oh sadly, we cannot enjoy such practical "fruits of maturity" in our country - unless you are disabled! A beautiful old steam machine, finely polished and preserved (I'll link this picture to a railway-friend) and photographed with love - a WWII- baby like me, but some years older and in a very good state!
Ginnie Hart: Wacht! You don't have senior discounts in Germany, Philine???? Oh, that's so sad. I had a discount of €2.50 yesterday at the gardens in Arcen. Enough for an ice cream. smile If I look this gooid when I'm 70, I won't worry about discounts. smile
interesting closeup full of details
Ginnie Hart: I love the huge wheels of trains, Fabrizio! Grazie.
Great details Ginnie and composition to honour and celebrate this technical jewel. A dream machine. A travel machine. One of the most beautiful. How charming. Ah crossing Europe in such a train with your beloved... smile
Ginnie Hart: Yes, indeed, Flo, especially when you put it that way. By the way, we will be passing Paris by car the first week in July (to and from SW France). We will write you about the dates, in case we can see you....??!!
This is a freat way to portray this machine as a poweerful beast Ginnie. I like it.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Chad. I have always been intrigued by the huge wheels!
Hppy birthday for yesterday Ginnie.
I like your article on V & V - I agree with every word you say.
I'm a year older than your train and the discounts didn't change at 70 (at least not for a British citizen). But that is just a calendar date - not the age I feel - or look so I'm told.
Ginnie Hart: WOW, Sheila. Congratulations! Well, at least we get discounts and that's what counts. One day maybe I'll catch up to you, knowing how time flies. smile
Massiv steel and dark wood. An impressive shot Ginnie
Again, congratulations on your milestone!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Marion. I love it. smile

I hope you had a great day!

It's a shame actually, my bf used to live in Dordrecht..he was actually born in Dordrecht..and guess what..I've never been to Dordt in stoom!

Love the perspective!
Ginnie Hart: Shame, shame, shame, Nadiuska. Well, it's only once every two years so depending on how long he was your bf, maybe you didn't have many options? We had a great day yesterday in Arcen, at the castle and gardens there. Thanks. Rotterdam is next! smile
That reminds me. I lost my free bus pass and will have to get it renewed. Ladies get it at 60 over here. The engine is looking good and well presented by you
Ginnie Hart: I think the gents get it, too, Janet, right? Bill gets his in July, he said. Anyway, congratulations. If I had a free bus pass, I'd ride to school on inclement days! smile
Excellent photograph! Great colors and details! Beautiful image!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
Certainly a milestone; many returns of the day!
This train is probably even older than you smile
Ginnie Hart: The train was born in 1940, Wim, so has beat me by 5 years. If I look that good at age 70, I'll be a happy camper. grin Thank you kindly, sir.
Hello,

Beautiful realization, strange visual angle and beautiful colour to give has this photograph, very large detail for this sight of engine.
Well with you.Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: I have always been intrigued by the huge wheels of trains, Roland, thus this POV. Thanks.

I have to precisize: Sometimes and at some times there are some benefits/discounts for seniors (travels, museums, exhibition, special programms...), but not in general, not overall and always, you have always to ask if ..., in my city there is a special offer for seniours, a bus-card, quite cheaper than the normal one. Germany is, sorry, I have to say it, not a very seniour-friendly country -compared with Nederland or England, maybe, there are too many seniours, and often they live in a better financial and secure situation than the younger/young people!
Ginnie Hart: It would be fun to line up 65-year-olds from all the countries of the world and find out what benefits they do/don't have. Wouldnt THAT be a great case study, Philine!

Happy Birthday Ginnie with a little delay. I hope you had a nice day. Superb this locomotive, it has your age??? lolll .... Beautiful day, kisses.
Ginnie Hart: Í celebrate at least a week, Tede, so no delay from my side of the fence. grin Thanks a million. This tain, in fact, is 5 years my senior. Not bad, huh! smile
Absolutely gorgeous shot, Ginnie and congrats on on the big milestone grin
Ginnie Hart: Thank you and thank you, Charles. smile
I have been waiting for a shot from this festival Ginnie and what a cracker. As Les says it looks to be quite a large engine.
Ginnie Hart: You'll get many shots for the nest few posts, Brian, so put on your seatbelt. smile Thanks.

Well, that's just good old world charm if you ask me. All that steel makes those grasses look oh-so-delicate. Lovely!
Ginnie Hart: These beasts actually feel more montrous than airplanes do to me, Jess. That's so weird. Thanks.
Congrats on reaching the 65 year old milestone, Ginnie. It would be interesting (but too time consuming) to tally every discount received during the year to see what the total savings would amount to. I'm sure it would be a sizeable sum.

This 70 year old steam train looks to be well cared for, as all our seniors should be.
Ginnie Hart: With that thought, Bewverly, I have just started a column in my journal to keep track of my discounts for a year. I started with yesterday when I saved €2.50 at the Arcen castle and gardens. smile Thanks for the idea.
Many happy, Ginnie - however, believe me, there's nothing special about 65, you'll find that 66, 68, 70, etc. are much the same smile But, yes, those discounts do matter! It got me free into several Madrid museums!
Ginnie Hart: 65 is special, I guess, because it's the beginning...of the end??? HA! And all those discounts ARE special! I like money. smile

Ginnie Hart: It was fabulous in every way, Maria. By the time I was done, I was a tired puppy (2 days of walking!), but today I am totally restored. smile Thank you.
You are not older you are wiser
Ginnie Hart: I hope that, too, Albert! grin

Ginnie Hart: Awww. You sure know how to say the nicest things, Mick. Thank you. smile

Very nice lighting and perspective on the photo.

Some great engineering, caught in such a way that you can't help but admire the people who designed and made it..

Wow Ginnie congratulation and belated birthday wishes, I hope you had a wonderful day...
Ginnie Hart: Trains actually grab my attention and awe more than airplanes, George, for some reasons. I think it's the hugh wheel mechanism. smile Thanks for your wishes. It has been a great birthday for me.

Fabulous image Ginnie, some things seem to get better with age. Wishing you the best on your birthday. I hit another big decade next week. Take care and hope to see you around for many more.
