Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Tomorrow Astrid and I fly to Liverpool for our honeymoon...and the meet-up on Saturday, 10 April.

In case you've missed it:
We're meeting at 1 p.m. in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (see map).
If it's raining, look for us inside the next-door pub, The Dirty Duck, a.k.a. The Black Swan!
If you see a bunch of people with cameras, you've probably found us!

On the way home from Groningen, we had to switch trains in Utrecht, Holland,
where we saw this famous scene in Utrecht that I was able to capture here
back in 2008.

This is my last post until a week from now.

Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, JJ. We are really looking firward to it all. smile
You'd think they'd have better lighting for a masterpiece. Have a wonderful honeymoon, you lovebirds, and a great time with the other SC'ers.
Ginnie Hart: Astrid and I have been there many times but this was the first time we saw the mural (late at night). We are really looking forward to our trip, Larry, as you can imagine. Thanks.

An interesting piece of trompe l'oeil. I've been reading the comments laughing - Chad, a disappointment? I think he's just being modest!
Ingrid
Ginnie Hart: From everything Astrid has said about Chad, you're right, Ingrid. Can hardly wait to meet you all! smile
That is a lovely painting in the center of the wall. Wishing you loads of fun with the SCers.

Oh Ginnie, my best wishes will be accompanying you both- I'm sure it will be a wonderful, inspiring, heartful... meeting-together! Your picture is very approriating today -the NS Spoorwegen Museum in Utrecht must be a toppertje for every railway-friend as I heard! "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"- and of course, your souls have wings crossing the Channel and flying towards Tracy and Stratford- full of pleasure and great expectations!

A Wish for a Friend

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish (English, Dutch, American...) smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
(an old Irish Blessing)
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Philine. The only thing missing will be YOU! But we'll have our own special one-on-one with you soon, more nearby.

Oh, Chad "a complete disappointment"? Oh, an instructively typical example of English understatement!- I have to read all comments later! (being just on the way...)
Ginnie Hart: From what everyone else has said, especially Astrid, Chad doesn't know what he's talking about!!
The bright blue and white sign makes an unusal but effective partner to the mural. I like the inclusion of the stair case allowing us to escape the image stage right ;o)
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Mike. Had to show it really was at the train station. smile Thanks and...soon!

Ginnie Hart: Me, too, Vintage! The funny thing is, even though you're from Australia, both of us have met you in real life, though on separate occasions. That still amazes me!
have a good one u guys, should be tons of fun with peeps meeting you there, and takin' pics, and stuuuufffffff.... smile
Ginnie Hart: All of that and maybe even more, Elaine. grin Thanks.
There's going to be a few of us there Ginnie..Looking forward to to seeing you all.
A great 3d effect in that picture..Wonderful.
Ginnie Hart: We may need to wear nametags, Ron. grin Thanks.
Belle manière de populariser la culture !
Ginnie Hart: Merci, Christophe. Good to see you again.
Have a wonderful honeymoon!!

Wish I could be there to meet up with all of you!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Nadiuska. Maybe we'll meet you some day here in the Netherlands, up close and personal! smile

Amazing to find such wonderful art in a 'transit' station. Love the colors..and have a great time!!!
Ginnie Hart: We'll like little kids right now, Marcie. grin Thanks.
Wow!! I really like the discrepancy between the old mural and the modern signs. Somehow they seem to fit together, although they should not.
Ginnie Hart: It's funny how such things just happen, Marion. Too bad we won't be able to see you, since you'll seem so close...yet so far.
Hope you are as happy as you deserve. Congratulations.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Albert. We are feeling very happy indeed. smile
That is lovely artwork that probably goes unnoticed by many, except for you smile Have a safe journey and see you Saturday smile smile
Ginnie Hart: When there are loads of people passing by, it's easy to miss this, Linda. We were there late in the evening and had a chance to see it wiothout any people around! Looking forward to meeting you!
Beautiful composition, Ginnie! I really love the tones here!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
Crickey. Ginnie and Astrid . You have started something good. Wish I could have been there.
Ginnie Hart: Wish you could have been there, too, Janet. Maybe next time?
I am so looking forward to hearing all the wild & wonderful reminiscences from the lucky folk who are fortunate enough to attend this meet-up, Ginnie.

The Utrecht painting on the train station wall just shows how much the Dutch respect their environment & heritage. Glad you spotted this one.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you very much, Beverly. I'm sure there will be lots of ripples from this meet-up. :
Very nice; that painting in the middle almost seems to go right through the wall. That golden kalf is intriguing!
Ginnie Hart: I love stuff like this, Mark. Thanks.

Ginnie Hart: It was fun to see it, finally, without hundreds of people passing by, Tom! Thanks.

Looks more like this belongs to a museum wall than a subway wall.

Safe trip. Enjoy!
Ginnie Hart: I know what you mean, Maria. Thanks! We had a fabulous time and I'll work on catching you up! smile
Liverpool's my dirty home town... a great place with lots to see there from the wonderful Philharmonic Hotel - half way between the two cathedrals, to the Albert Dock.

Enjoy your honeymoon and your ad hoc meeting with the bloggers.
Ginnie Hart: We had a chance to see the Albert Dock area yesterday, George, before flying back to Holland. Even road the Liverpool Wheel. The whole long weekend was beautiful in every way, especially the meet-up on Saturday, which I'll be working on the rest of this week. Thanks, as always, for stopping by.
wonderful picture reminds me of the underground but with art, ?

enjoy your trip, sorry i wont be there to meet you all

This was at Utrecht's train station, Ginnie??? I missed this! Next time, I will be photo-walking with you and Astrid!

Its a pretty piece - I have a photo of the exact same spot of the canal.
Ginnie Hart: Well, to be honest, Esther, I have passed that spot many a time but never saw this till that one night when we were there late. I think usually there are so many people in front of it you totally miss it altogether. One day you WILL be photo-hunting with Astrid and me, I'm sure of it. smile

Ginnie Hart: Thank you so much, Flo. We had a fabulous time. And to answer your question from the other day, Paris is NOT that far away by car. I'm sure we will tackle it one of these days! It will be great if we can meet up with you then! Something to look forward to. smile

Have a great time in Stratford. My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary there 10 years ago, had a WONDERFUL time!
Ginnie Hart: I'm delighted that you could at least picture us all there on Saturday, Patrushka. It was a fabulous time for us. THANK YOU.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Jess, and thank you. It was a great time for us...and a very special memory to have and hold forever.
A great find, was it in the train museum?

I like the different light here...the cold light from the signs and the more warmer light reflecting from the wall...gives a strange effect of old and new at the same time....
