photoblog image On Being Highlighted

On Being Highlighted

(as seen in the Linge Harbor of Gorinchem, Holland, on 3 January 2010)

Some of you already know that a new website was launched 2 weeks ago,
hosting the visions/photos and thoughts/verbs of "women of a certain age."

Vision and Verb

I feel very humbled and honored to be chosen as one of the 15 collaborators.
Today is my debut there and I'd be delighted if you take time to check it out.
I also have the link at the bottom of my SC page for future reference.

A beautiful, densely detailed view of the canal, Ginnie.

I shall certainly browse your new site.
Ginnie Hart: It's actually at the end of the line, Ray, but has a gate that opens (behind my back) when it's time to go out into the wild blue yonder. Did you notice all the Christmas trees on the bridge? smile
Wonderful archetypal shot of Amsterdam; and the reflections on the ice are a delight.

"...never too old to learn..." - absolutely right. Congratulations Ginnie on being selected for V&V. Sounds like you're going to be even busier - which is just the way it should be.
Ginnie Hart: It's not Amsterdam, George, but close enough. This is in Gorinchem, a bit south of Amsterdam, 36 miles or 57.92 Kilometers. I have grown to love it as much as, if not more than AMS. Anyway, thsnk you for your kind comment. You're right...we're never too old to learn. If we are, might as well die on the spot. smile
going right over!
Ginnie Hart: Ohhhh. Thank you, Heather (though it probably wasn't up yet? not sure exactly when that page turns).
another stunning shot Ginnie, lovely light here, just had a look at vision and verb, congratulations for being picked, i know its going to be succesful
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Derek, for your vote of confidence. That means a lot to me.
congrats on the new site!

this is another beautiful image. I love how the boat seems completely frozen in place.
Ginnie Hart: Frozen in place and absorbing the sun. Thanks, Charles.

One more hour to go Ginnie and your post will be up at V&V!

This is such a fantastic shot of your new homeland. Can't wait to see it through your eyes. smile
Ginnie Hart: That sounds like 5a UK time, Toni (all these time zones can play tricks on me)? It was up when I woke up this morning and thrilled me. smile Thank you for all your hard work on this project. You and Marcie both deserve a standing ovation! smile

Van harte gefeliciteerd, congratulations MLS, when you told me the news and I saw your radiant eyes I knew this means a lot to you, being one of the 'Vision and Verb'.
ASAP I will read it all, for today I wish you all the joy you will have with reading comments and making replies, ik ben trots op jou!!
This picture reflects the sun and the glow in your eyes, IHVJ MAWIIMH.
(I do think Gorinchem sometimes does look like Amsterdam........ wink
Ginnie Hart: You have been so totally supportive of me and this new project from day one, MLMA, and I thank you. I could not have done it without your enthusiasm. Ontzettend bedankt. It means the world to me.

And yes, by now you know Gorinchem is every bit as wonderful to me as AMS, if not more so! smile We are so lucky.
c'est une vue vraiment magnifique
Ginnie Hart: Merci, dear O-P.

Everything looks frozen solid here Ginnie: I will read your new websitewith interest
Ginnie Hart: It was the beginning of the deep-freeze, Chris. Then it melted...and I'm guessing is now frozen again. Thanks for your interest in the new website.
Lovely picture Ginnie. Great light. I will have a look at Vision and verb later
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Bill! That means a lot. smile
there is some kinds of ice even a heart can't melt.
i love the time of day when light 'gets longer' because it has such a dramatic effect on photographs.
it's very beautiful, ginnie.
because you put heart in your images.
Ginnie Hart: You know how to make my day, Sera. Thank you!
Nice shot Ginnie! Nice ice reflections!
Congratulations about V&V!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, thank you, and thank you, RS. smile

The light on the boat and the bridge highlights it to perfection. Had a look at the blog - what a great idea, and I recognise quite a few of the names there. I totally agree with your thoughts on vision - most of us go round with our eyes shut half the time. The little girl in the drawing has finally grown up and found the freedom to be herself!
Ingrid
Ginnie Hart: I do like how you have said this, Ingrid. You have made my day. Thank you.

Gorinchem must be worth a visit- so typically Old Dutch at its best- and always a bit Amsterdams as Astrid said! What a lovely day whereas the snowing and the cold don't find an end here (therefore we have to defer our visit to A'dam)- I will have a look at Vision and Verb later!
Ginnie Hart: Ohhh, so sorry you have to defer your visit, Philine, but maybe there's a reason? You would love Gorinchem. One day you will see it. It's a very "doable" city to visit/tour! smile I love it and feel very fortunate that it's now my home.

Lovely light and masterly composition as always, but having popped over to V&V I can see that you have been harbouring artist talent for a long time! I promise to pop back from time to time.
Ginnie Hart: Well, to be truthful, Mike, the artist side of me is not very developed at all. My maternal g'ma and my father were both artists, so I come by it naturally. Maybe one day I can see if there's anything there to pursue? Maybe it's meant for my photography?
Beautiful light on this scene, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Tom. It was a cold day but very brisk and bright.

Gefeliciteerd, Ginnie -en ik bewonder jouw moed over je levensreis zo open te schrijven en te praten- it is a moving, interesting life, and every phase of it may have been/may be full of sense and value- you have found so fine, thoughtful-warm words to reflect on that all- and I totally agree with anniedog's words - the best what a human being can get fullfilled is his/her self-determination, his/ her self-realization, and his/ her special kind of happiness! (On next Friday I'll think of you both in a special way!)
Ginnie Hart: You know, Philine. You understand. Ontzettend bedankt. We are looking forward to so much in the week and weeks to come...and still are enjoying the Now.

Gorgeous light...and such a perfect image to illustrate your day in the sun!!!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Marcie. Once I saw the image, I knew it was the right one for today. smile
Beautiful picture. I like the tree lined type of arch. The sunlight catches perfectly.
Ginnie Hart: We never saw if those Christmas trees were lit at night, Linda. Can't believe we didn't go back to check. But they were fun to see as part of the Christmas festivities. Thank you.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Yinks. It's been a good outlet for me. smile
under the ice is an unused wish:
a coin tossed into the canal.
two lovers see the glint of silver and mistake it for their own laughter.
the sound of a motor momentarily scatters stillness from the water.
in winter, even the tides become frozen, oblivious of the moon.
Ginnie Hart: You do have a way of saying things, Sera! Thank you.....

Ginnie Hart: Oh, Frida. We all have our lives over and above all this blogging, right?! smile Thanks for taking the time midst your busyness.
Captured in the ice in this nice light. Gorinchem has a nice harbour!
Ginnie Hart: Gorinchem as a citadel city has at least 3 harbors, Wim, maybe more, so we are very lucky! Thanks. You would love it here.
Marvelous!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Kath. I still remember how beautiful that day was! smile
