That's a lovely picture Ginnie. Superb lighting, delightful tones and a feeling of great calmness...and maybe a hint of warmer times with the melting ice (probably wishful thinking).
Ginnie Hart: I recall that it was very cold that day, George, but with the beautiful sunlight, it felt wonderful. Warmer times did come but now it's cold again! smile Thank you kindly.

I like it Ginnie, the stillness of the boats in the frozen water plus the people moving in the pic gives it character.
Ginnie Hart: It was one of those days, Bandoras. smile Thanks.

Aye, and a handsome boat he is, too...
Ginnie Hart: I'd love to meet his namesake, wouldn't you, Larry? smile

Daan has a fine strategy, Ginnie...alpha male behaviour has no place here...

[grin]
Ginnie Hart: HA! He probably knows what's good for him, Ray. smile
Looks like Daan is staying put for awhile! Wonderful shot.
Ginnie Hart: Sometimes we all need to stay put for awhile, Caroline, I guess! Thanks.

Looks like it will need a Russian icebreaker at some point! Lovely the lighting in this.
Ginnie Hart: Funny thing is, Alan, today we saw men breaking the ice around some houseboats. Astrid had told me about it but it was the first time I saw it with my own eyes. Thanks.

Daan looks in fine shape and im sure his future is bright. Love your use of the lighting.
Ginnie Hart: Maybe there's a lesson here, SAVO, about how resting a bit will help keep the future bright? Thanks for the thought. smile

sad patience is a nice thing to have.....some do have more than the other grin
I wish for Daan lots of sun and little wind......
A great picture with great light, for the ones that like to see de Lingehaven in summer, go to google maps, street view and look for 'Gorinchem, Petersbrug.
MLS what you did with this picture is amazing, Gorinchem shown by your camera is so beautiful.
Ginnie Hart: Patience comes and goes for so many of us, MLMA. When we have it, we have it. grin I will love seeing this spot in all the seasons. Maybe Daan will change before our very eyes the warmer it gets. Thank you for your encouraging words, as always. I do love our city!

Great light and tones, and it does look cold, but warm as well, very nice Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: It's one of those days when the sun can trick you, Linda. I loved it. Thanks.

First I thought we are in Amsterdam- Gorinchem may be now as beautiful as Amsterdam (or quite beautifuller because...)- I hope to watch next week (if we are in Amsterdam to visit the exhibition about Hendrieck Averkamp in the Rijksmuseum) all the scaters on the grachten- a fine winterpic- and I like it, but I had preferred the 'real' colours, but your style is your style!)- We have now temps of -16 grades!
Ginnie Hart: I have told Astrid many times that I love Gorinchem every bit as much as Amsterdam, Philine. It has so much character. One day we hope to go back to AMS to see the skaters on the canals...the small ones. I think the tourist boats were allowed back on the big ones. And yes, I know you like the more vivid colors, so I will give them to you from time to time. smile Danke.

Great capture of dutch boat life
Ginnie Hart: Don't we love the Dutch and their boats! grin Thanks, Vintage.
A fine shot once again Ginnie, and you are so lucky to have an area that looks so Dutch where you are now living, there will be pictures by the dozen as time goes on I am sure.
Ginnie Hart: Since it's Holland, Brian, I'm very glad it looks Dutch. grin And yes, I expect to have many opportunities for such pictures.

Yes, this ship is a HE, Daan is the short Dutch form of Daniël, I like that the Dutchies love to give their children short names like Wim, Kees, Cees, Jaap, Giep..., we saw on SC once a ship named "Astrid", but this ship rode at anchor in another harbour where it is now warm en gezellig!
Ginnie Hart: I have seen a freighter named Astrid, Philine, while on the train once over a year ago. It brought a great smile to my face. smile I love these terms of endearment, yes!

Beautiful. Looks like you could walk out to him. Poor Dann - waiting for the day to break free and once again feel the warm wind on his bow...
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Martie. I saw men breaking up the ice around a houseboat today. Man. The trials and tribulations of living on the water in the wintertime! Thanks.

Ik denk als je in Daan gaat zitten
daan krijg je het koud aan je billen.

The sun shows almost cold here - if that could be possible.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Ja, koud inderdaad, Louis! smile Bedankt.

There is something about the light and crispness in this photograph that makes it visually hypnotic and memorable.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir, for stopping by and commenting.
completely frozen? wow, this photo has a very particular light, Ginnie, that I find beautiful
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Fabrizio. Thank you.
Lovely shot, Ginnie - we've had a day of snow here in Sweden, making photography pretty difficult!
Ginnie Hart: I bet you'll soon have many photo ops, Tom, with all that snow. I look forward to your images.
Well frozen in Ginnie..Great scene..and nice toning. Are you getting used to the climate yet?
Ginnie Hart: Since I grew up in Michigan, in the years when we didn't have global warming, I am well acquainted with this kind of weather, Ron. However, I did have many years away from it, so it's taken some getting used to again, for sure! Thanks.
That is so freaking gorgeous. I am TOTALLY jealous.
Ginnie Hart: Now you know why I feel like I'm in heaven, Michael. smile Thanks.
Ground is hard as iron, water like a stone.
Ginnie Hart: Or pretty darn close, Chad, for sure!

Such glorious light in this shot, Ginnie. Something that I am missing very much right now. Really well done!
Ginnie Hart: During these winter days, Toni, I grab the sunshine whenever I can, for sure. I know what you mean! Thank you kindly.
The light, tone, depth and detail are so wonderful!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Pavan.
Daan is the most popular name to give to boys these days.
Also to ships(?)
Ginnie Hart: And to think you chose Marius. smile I remember that I had wanted to name a daughter Amy from as early as I can remember...maybe from high school days. When Our daughter was born several years later, Amy was one of the most popular names around. I almost didn't name her that because of it. However, I stuck with my plan and am glad I did.
