Flyin' High

This is a series from our Country Fair when I took my g'son on October 8.

In the same way that some rides were "beneath" Nicholas (age 9) this year, some were too scary for him.
This Pirate Ship rocks dizzingly back-n-forth higher and higher.
It's too scary for both of us, but not because of the height!
"It would tickle our stomachs too much."

This is for Astrid who is flying higher than a kite these days, fixing up her/our new apartment.

Is that a gun he/she's holding?
Ginnie Hart: She's definitely holding a gun, Maria. She's a wild thing. grin

I know it's a model, but even so it gives me vertigo!

It did tickle our stomachs a lot when we rode in it some years ago. I like the POV
Ginnie Hart: The older I get, the worse these are, Frida. But I still love the ferris wheel. The height does not bother me at all but it needs to be a bit more sedate. grin Thanks.
i've seen that ride. or at least, i've seen one similar. it rocks back and forth.
nooo, i wouldn't ride that one either.
i'd love to have the pirate figure off the masthead though.
Ginnie Hart: You definitely get the gist of it, Seraphine. I'd love that masthead, too. Would she look great in the corner of your living room! grin
Wonderful perspective! I have a cast iron stomach which rarely gets tickly.
Ginnie Hart: You're one of the lucky ones, Larry. My stomach is cast iron when it comes to food but not to rides like this. Thanks.

Ginnie Hart: I recently rewatched the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Elaine, so this brings a big smile to my face. grin Thanks.

I don't think I've ever seen such intricate details on rides before. If I have I wasn't paying attention smile
Ginnie Hart: It's only been since I've had a camera in hand that I've noticed the details, Sherri, so thank God for photography!

tongue....thank you lieve schat for this tribute, great composition and POV.....
Sometimes I feel like life is one big roller-coaster and I get free rides all the time, but than some dear lady wink is telling me 'breath in and breath out' funny thing that helps smile
Brede glimlach, yes I do fly higher than a kite these days and I hope I don't crash.
TGIF......I can unpack the last boxes this weekend (I hope)
Ginnie Hart: Free rides all the time! I like that way of looking at Life, MLMA. You do have a way of putting things which I just love. Bedankt voor dat! I love that things are starting to settle down for you...just before I join you and make a new mess. HA! But before long, we'll both be settled and we'll be pinching ourselves! We won't crash. We will continue to fly.....it's our nature and our Destiny!
Ouch that hurt. Nice light and dark Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Chad. I'm guessing she has sat there for so long it feels quite comfortable by now. smile

Looks painful, great POV Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Tony. As I just told Chad, she has sat there for so long it probably feels quite comfortable by now. smile

A wonderful perspective- I can imagine the flyin' high posure/position- and there is a feel of wild movement and dynamic force in this picture! Nice your words adressed to dear Astrid- and I remember her great pirate ship leader time last year!
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Philine, we remember that Astrid was the great Jack Sparrow on her own pirate ship. This gun-totin' lady is nothing in comparison, for sure. smile Ontzettend bedankt voor jouw woorden.
A fine example of 'folk art' and a good composition. It looks like the pirate has been doing service for quite a long time.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks you kindly, Wim. I think she has gotten quite used to her rough life! smile

I agree with you here Ginnie - far too scary and gut-wrenching for me too! Great POV.
Ingrid
Ginnie Hart: The older we get....HA! Well, at least we know ahead of time what makes sense and what doesn't, most of the time. smile Thanks, Ingrid.

Very wise Ginnie - but these kind of dare devil tricks are well within "Capt Jack's" capability ;o)
Ginnie Hart: I have a feeling Jack Sparrow would have no trouble at all with this ride, Mike...you're right. But she'll have to ride it without me. grin
But tickling in stomach feels good sometimes smile

Great photo from you, as usual.

Ginnie Hart: I'm sure that's why these rides exist, Bhavesh, for all of you who do like your stomachs tickled. grin Thank you kindly.
Great capture of this pirate Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
I sure like the composition you choose
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Chantal. This was a fun one for me. smile

My stomach can't cope with this type of ride now
Ginnie Hart: I know what you mean, Vintage. I wonder if I could have ridden it when young? I guess I'll never know. I didn't grow up around such things.
Looks a tad uncomfortable.
Ginnie Hart: She's been sitting there for so long, Michael, she's found it to be quite comfortable, I'm sure. She was sitting there last year, too. grin
great framing, colors and tones are perfect
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Fabrizio. Thank you kindly.

Amazing POV Ginnie ... and a BIG THANKS for the free language teaching .. i'm learning always new words through your comments ;-)
Ginnie Hart: We learn from each other, Klaus, which is the beauty of the Internet and how small the world really is! Danke.
She seems to be painfully impaled Ginnie. I do not like pirate ship rides....once was too many times
Ginnie Hart: HA! We're on the same page, Bill, at least about once being too many. But I have a feeling she's not in as much pain as it looks. grin
Love the angle Ginnie, just thinking about the ride is giving me butterflies!
Ginnie Hart: Isn't it funny what a simple image can do! I love it. Thanks, Linda.
I used to love those rides. The feeling of weightlessness is a real thrill. Nice shot Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: HA! And now we need to feel grounded, right, Ron?!! grin Thanks.

Maybe he will now like Pirates of the Caribbean? Real action - or as real as it gets in the movies.
If I look close at this picture, I think that figure got shafted.
Ginnie Hart: I'll be interested to see what one more year will do to him, Louis. One year he'll definitely want to ride these scary rides. And yes, she does look shafted, for sure! smile
It stands out so well against the sky Ginnie but what is the gun about?
Ginnie Hart: Have you ever heard of a pirate without a gun, Brian???? Me, neither. grin Thanks.

Not one of my favourite rides, either; I find it quite nauseous before too long. Best to sit this one out!
Ginnie Hart: HA! By the looks of it, Alan, a whole bunch of us are sitting this one out. smile

is a pirate?

Good frame amd light
Ginnie Hart: Si, Oscar, a lady pirate. On the other end is the male pirate. Muchas gracias.
Never liked the pirate ship myself Ginnie, great shot of the figurehead though.
Ginnie Hart: I think a lot of us are in the same boat, Les...just not the Pirate boat. grin Thanks.

Ginnie Hart: Yes, indeed, Kiji. Sail away, sail away, sail away! Merci. smile
Interesting capture. Like the colours and POV. Used to like these rides but not anymore...
Ginnie Hart: I know what you mean, Pernilla. The ol' gray mare she ain't what she used to be. grin

Brilliant, Ginnie...captures the essence of the Country Fair as I remember it from many, many years ago.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Ray. I didn't grow up with the fair so having this time with my g'son brings out the kid in me, though late in life. Better late than never!
Nice shot Ginnie - reminds me of a similar ride we have back in India - it is called the "Columbus" and it would give me that same tickling in the stomach.
Ginnie Hart: All are variations on a theme, Thomas, and all are too "dangerous" for me now. grin Thanks.
Hmmm... It looks as though she's coming over the bowsprit, but the sail suggests a mast. It makes the photo feel not "right" somehow. Do you have a photo of the entire boat? I suspect a little artistic license was taken with the concept "pirate ship"!

That's not a quibble with the photo, though. It's a wonderful photo, full of movement. Funny - the figure of the pirate reminds me of the statuary you'd find in an old European cathedral. And look at the detail, as in the legs! I wonder if someone found himself a new carving career when the church-statue business went south?
Ginnie Hart: Depending on how you look at the ship, Linda, she's either at the bow or the stern, and the male version of her is at the other end, standing up. There is a mast in the center that has a parrot on it, as I recall. smile

It definitely reminds me of carvings I have seen in Europe, interestingly!
I know that tickling feeling you are taking about, sometimes it can be too much =P
Ginnie Hart: HA! We're just getting to old for stuff like this, Brian. grin
