A Gizmo Contraption

One last photo from when we had our 5 dead oak trees cut down.

When you don't know what something is called!
(lying on the bed of the lumberjack's truck)

For those of us in America, have a great Labor Day holiday weekend!
(I've been invited to my first NASCAR race here in Atlanta on Sunday!)

Love the colour tones! Great shot of this thing lying on the bed of the lumberjack's truck.

Have a nice holiday weekend!
Ginnie Hart: It sure did catch my attention, Pernilla, even though I didn't know what it was. Thanks.
Wood and metal seem to work so well togther Ginnie. I shall be spending Labor (as you spell it) weekend on Cape Cod.
Ginnie Hart: I agree about the mix of wood and metal, Chad. A photographer's paradise. Have fun on Cape Cod this weekend. What a place to be!

It's called a Lumberjacks Tool, Ginnie...your randy lady readers would recognise it at once...

[grin]
Ginnie Hart: HA! I'm sure you're right, Ray. All those ladies will want to keep up with this lumberjack's tools. grin Thanks.
what a heavy duty gizmo!! i love the textures in this photograph! niiiiice shot smile
Ginnie Hart: It sure seemed a lot more complicated than anything else I saw, Elaine. smile Thanks.

Gizmo -- I like that word.

You have a great holiday too.
Ginnie Hart: It's a good word to use every once in awhile, Maria. grin Thanks.
Like the detail Ginnie...Noice
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Debola. Thanks.
RICH! Color and shading make cold metal warm..how did you do that!! I like it.
Ginnie Hart: I've started to use a fake HDR effect using one RAW image, Jeffrey. I like it when it works. smile Thanks. And welcome again to SC. I hope you will "grow into" this wonderful community of photographers.

No idea at all Ginnie but l am sure it serves some useful purpose, love the shot btw
Ginnie Hart: It does look like it would come in handy, Tony, but for exactly what, I have no clue either. I never saw it in use. Thanks.

Great close-up and Chad is right, wood and metal is a fine combination, love the tones.
When I was reading Chad's comment....Labor/Labour, honor/honour, color/colour.....I have a small dictionary 'American-English/English-American'...
http://www.alibris.com/search/books/isbn/0902920138
......and 'they' say Dutch is difficult...... wink
This makes a language quite interesting and I love the word Gizmo.
Have a great day at the races, I know for sure we will get to see some fabulous pictures from that day.
TGIF, MLS, KSK.....tot straks.
Ginnie Hart: Labor/Labour, honor/honour, color/colour...you are so good, MLMA! Sometimes I'm tempted to change the spelling of my American words for the more British audience, and then I stop and remember that THEY know I'm American in the same way I know they're British. Isn't it amazing they actually have books about this! For Dutch, if you just add a 'j' you'll probably be just about right in any spelling. grin

That NASCAR race will be something else for me! I'm glad I have the 300 lens and hope I don't forget my camera! Thanks for the reminder. smile TGIF.
moi, je ne peux pas t'aider sur le nom. mais la photo est belle en tout cas
Ginnie Hart: I guess we'll just be satisfied with 'gizmo' then, O-P. smile Merci.

a very attractive picture - you have such a good eye, i'm not sure i would have looked at it beyond being a gizmo smile - you've turned it into art.
Ginnie Hart: You're very kind, Eliza. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. It gave me a wonderful chance to see YOUR delightful Archive.

great clarity again, wonder what a mono version would look like? Top shot.
Ginnie Hart: This is one step away from being in mono, Rhys, believe it or not. It's B&W with sepia through the Multiply layer in PS, which keeps a tinge of color. I also did some fake HDR from a single RAW image. It does weird things, right?! Thanks.

This is a good & strong image Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Chris. That gizmo looked like it was very strong!
Part of this contrivance is a swivel, that much I know.
Ginnie Hart: You're right, Wim. In fact it looks like 2 of the bits are swivels. That much we now know. smile Bedankt. (I know you're not from the United States!)
Fantastic tones.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Sujit.

Yes, I very like this pic- the powerful and beautiful metal and the pure structures and forms of these tools -- never knowing "what something is called" and what its function may be!
Een prettig weekeind toegewenst van Philine (my weekend will be full of music and art, "open nights" in all musea and theatres; I'll listen to the Händel opera "Rinaldo"...)
Ginnie Hart: Nothing to make you feel nervous here, right, Philine?! grin You sound like you'll have a delightful weekend, full of what makes your heart sing. I'm happy for you.

More lumberjack's tackle on display ;o) Not sure if that works in American-English ;o)
Ginnie Hart: Lumberjack's tackle. I like that, Mike. I bet he'd like that, too. It works in any English. smile Thanks.

A fitting enough description! Whatever it is it has some fine rusty detail which you've brought out very well. Enjoy Labor Day.
Ingrid
Ginnie Hart: It sure seems to fit in with the entire lumberjacking process, Ingrid, doesn't it! Thanks. Have a great weekend for yourself.
Plenty of detail in this Ginnie, a fine shot indeed.Have a good weekend,ps no French Maids here either.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Mick. If I find some French maids at the NASCAR race, I'll be sure to capture them for you. grin

Gismo is a great name instead of thingy.lol Enjoy the car racing
Ginnie Hart: It's not a word you get to use very often, Vintage, but it sure comes in handy every once in awhile. smile Thanks.
Well spotted and captured Ginnie. Have a great labour day and enjoy the NASCAR race!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Richard. There are a few on SC who show their race car images. I hope I have learned from them how to do it. I have no idea where we'll be sitting but I'll have my 300 lens with me and will hope to get some good shots! Wish me luck. smile
It's a wotsitsname innit?
Ginnie Hart: A thingamajig, a whatchamacallit...we have all kinds of names for it, don't we, Bill! i love it.
great composition with lot of detail
well done , as always
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Jean-Luc. Merci.
love the color tones, nice contrast too. Love the composition
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Christophe.

a wonderful closeup, very nice textures and color.. smile great shot!

wow, nascar.. that's one thing i haven't done yet.. have fun! grin
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Rian! I sure hope I'll know what to do with my camera at the race!!!! It'll be a new experience for me, trust me. Probably my first and last experience ever. I was lucky to be invited.
Wood and metal is always a great combination Ginnie. Have a fantastic holiday weekend.
Ginnie Hart: You're right, Bernie, about the wood and metal combination. Lots of strength in both! You have a great weekend, too.

Looks like part of a come-along, but I was wrong one other timesmile Only reason I'm guessing that is because it looks like a tool I used to help John used to stretch fence on the farm. Love the image.
Ginnie Hart: You clearly know a lot more than I do, Sherri, so your guess is better than mine. It's fun to imagine how a lumberjack might use it. Thanks. Have a great holiday weekend!

i think this might actually be a doodad rather than a gizmo. Have a great weekend!
Ginnie Hart: HA! How could I have forgotten THAT word, Paul. You're so right. smile Thanks.
A great close up shot Ginnie. I finally managed to achive a finish something like yours on an image yesterday, not as good of course. Enjoy the motor race, and take your earplugs!
Ginnie Hart: Oh, Brian...I bet it WAS as good, if not better. I would love to see it on SC some day! Who was it that said imitation is the best compliment? smile Thanks.

Nascar race I'm so envious of you smile I like the rustic feel in this picture.

lol @ gizmo. have a fab weekend smile
Ginnie Hart: Don't you just love the words we call things, SAVO! grin Thanks.
Lovely detail in this, Ginnie., of obviously something extremely important.

I listen to a US classical radio station from Tulsa and they have just mentioned the long Labor day weekend.. lucky you!
Ginnie Hart: Lucky us is right, Alan. Traditionally many schools around the country start right after Labor Day. Here in Atlanta, kids started school the second week of August. But it's still a nice break for everyone...before Thanksgiving at the end of November! smile Thanks.

nice processing with the grain here, the closeup really stands out.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Liang. It did catch my eye!
Don't forget Thing-a-ma-bob.
Or Doohickey. Although I think the person who voted for come-along is right.

The lumberjack himself is now happily ensconced in his new digs, hanging out with a boatyard worker and a couple of crane operators. It's a Labor Day party!
Ginnie Hart: HA! And I'm sure there are more we've all forgotten, Linda. One of my ex-bosses called such things "wacka-wackas." smile Now that I am back home from my NASCAR holiday, I will go look at your site! Thanks again for stopping by here.
Wow ! A wonderful result !
Ginnie Hart: Merci, dear Zeb!
Your work is as brilliant as always Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: You're very kind to say so, Albert! Thanks.
Cool shot here, love the details of closeup on things i've never seen before. You said you got invited to your first NASCAR race, I on the other hand got invited to my first Rodeo, boy was that interesting for a city guy like me.
Ginnie Hart: I guess we'll both have to show our pics, Brian! grin Thanks.
