Sibling Rivalry

This is a short series of images from the Michigan cottage over our July 4th holiday weekend.

My sister Ruth loves photography as much as I do, BUT...
...sadly, she has a Nikon (as do others that I know)!

Ahhhhhhh, now we are talking, this is a view I can look at for ever, look at that body, that shape, the curves, look at the grace she wears that black belt, she might be a little overweight, but ohhh she lays so good in the hands, she is so easy to handle, she loves the things she does, never complanes where I take her, always enjoys her time with me.....erm...erm...ooops did I get carried away here a litle bit, excuse me...NO I AM NOT SORRY.....I was talking about the sister of this beautiful Nikon.....the Nikon D80, I have....and Ginnie knows I have......gringrin een erg brede glimlach hier...tongue
Superb picture, love the composition, I think Ruth will enjoy this too......

Ouch! I can't say I know what it feels like to use a lesser brand but don't think on it too much, I like your images all the same :p

Nice mood and lighting captured here. I might have left the white towel out to keep the tones more even but thats it smile
Ginnie Hart: I just have to rub it in ever so often, Stan! grin And yes, that fleece shirt was my main bugaboo in this image, but I didn't want to crop it out...so stay it did. Besides, it's part of who Ruth is. Thanks, Stan.

Ha ha... that made me chuckle to start the day smile

Lovely shot, beautifully composed and I love the details in the sunglasses and blanket.
Ginnie Hart: So glad I could give you a smile, Paul. grin
Excellent photograph, Ginnie. Lovely contrast between the camera and the blanket. (:o)
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Roz. smile

Een prachtige stilleven van nu! Yesterday I have visited the blog of your sister Ruth and was very impressed by her photo! Your talents must lie in the familiy! Wonderful Astrid's hommage to the beloved Nikon! But we don't forget the spectacles, how helpless we might be without them! Five eyes are needed to explore and to enjoy our world- beside the inner eyes we need too!
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Philine. Our deceased brother was THE photographer...even taught photography. But neither Ruth nor I were into it back then, so we often comment now on how we are both carrying on his art form! It IS in the family, for sure. And I just had to rub it in...voor Astrid, too...about the rivalry of cameras. I couldn't help but take that enticing picture! smile

Nice contrast with the blanket almost the same colour as the Nikon name on the strap.

Lol at our musketeer friend!! As soon as I opened your post Astrid popped into my mind. Not that it takes much for me to think of my buddies.wink
This is a great composition and Ruth I am sure will be honoured with your post Ginnie.
Well done mijn vriend.smile
Have a good day, all for one and one for alltongue
Ginnie Hart: I know, Tracy. Sometimes we have to rub it in, don't we! grin But she's a good sport, of course, and can take it in stride. I think Ruth was tickled, too. smile
Hey Ginnie, I'm also a Nikon fan, and you also seem to be a closet fan smile. Nice shot.
Ginnie Hart: It's always fun to see the rivalry, Sesan. smile Thanks.
You found the perfect modelwink
Ginnie Hart: Yes, I'm sure Ruth thinks so, Nigel. smile Thanks.

I love the idea of making a portrait using a person's possessions as it says a lot about them. And this says this lady has a lot of taste and good sense to use such a camera - why would anyone want to use anything else?!

Ginnie Hart: HAHAHA! You certainly have your own POV, Ingrid! grin I love it.

Ginnie Hart: I really, really like that, Fotografa! Well said. smile
Great capture Ginnie. I am out of the competition here, I have no Canon, no Nikon, just a Pentax!
Ginnie Hart: And you don't suffer at all, Richard, do you! grin
Great tones and light here, Ginnie. I feel your pain..lol.

Well! What a great little wake-me-up! I'm drinking my coffee before 6am, lounging through a couple of blogs and emails, and wham! there I am sitting on my blanket, my fleece, my glasses, and my other self, such a beautiful self, my precious Nikon. Yes, dear Astrid, you are spot on, lays so good in the hands.

It was very enjoyable to read the comments back and forth between the poor Canon users and my Nikon friends. We can be civil, supportive and tolerant of the pluralisms in the world, starting with what we hold in our hands and the lens we look through.

After all, it's what's in the frame that matters (as Philine beautifully put: 'inner eyes'wink.

Thank you, big sister! You made my day.
Ginnie Hart: I can't tell you how fun this was to do, Ruth! It made MY day, too. I was sitting right next to your blanket and knew the shot had to be taken!!! smile

Only a Nikon would bring along it's sunglasses and a blanket smile
Ginnie Hart: HA! You are so right, Kathryn. smile Ruth has the D40 and I just noticed that yours is the D50. Practically twins!
Don't lets start a brand war Ginnie, regardless of make this is a great picture. Of course, you really need an Olympus to get ahead!!!
Ginnie Hart: HAHAHA! There are already plenty of wars without starting another one, Brian. You're so right.

The equipment carefully placed on the blanket make interesting subjects. The gleam on the shutter release makes a good highlight.
Ginnie Hart: I was delighted it came out like that, Don. Thanks.
I thought that this was my Nikon at first, Ginnie, but it is a little different.
Ginnie Hart: Hers is the D40, Chad, and yours is the D100, I see.

Hi, I'm new to your photos, but just had to say that I love my Nikon. Great photo, love the tones. smile
Ginnie Hart: I am sure you love your Nikon as much as I love my Canon, Mary. I love it. smile
Ooo, sexy shots, Ginnie? Are you doing a spread for the Nikon equivalent of Playgirl? *wink*

I have a Nikon too, tho mine's a Coolpix 5700 and I love it as much as my Pentax. It's not what we have, as you should know, Ginnie, but how we use it, that counts!
Ginnie Hart: HA! And of course you're right about all our accessories!!! grin
Hm, I recognize this. My brother is a Nikonian, I only use Canon (and Hasselblad, and Diana, and...). Not very practical in borrowing lenses...
Ginnie Hart: Those camera companies would never think of us swapping lenses, Gina, for sure! So you have the rivalry in your own family, too. I love it. smile
WEll I hope she can take as good photographs as you do Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Sometimes better, Chris, truth be known!
Well, she'll get a REAL camera one of these days smile Nicely composed.
Ginnie Hart: HAHAHAHA! But when, I wonder, will she come to her senses?!

So you used a Canon to take a picture of a Nikon. What is the world coming to?? I very nearly bought a D300 yesterday, but managed to resist. But my resolve is crumbling...
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Martin, exactly as you said! I'm not familiar with the D300. Hmmm. Will have to check it out. I'm guessing YOU don't need anything new to make YOU better!

Hah! I'm joining those ranks this Winter, Ginnie. But I'm keeping my Canon. What can I say. I like both of them!

Lovely shot, very well composed.
Ginnie Hart: Bottom line, we can't live with them and we can't live without them! Thanks, Kay.
I checked her blog and noticed she has some lovely shots even though it is a Nikon.
Ginnie Hart: HAHAHAHA! Exactly, Michael. grin
Ahahahh! This is the rivalry of marks, truth? Ginnie! grin

I almost thought you got a new camera when I looked at the thumbnail Ginnie. I just love the way you have captured this. I have seen so many cameras but all I've managed to do is drool over them smile
Ginnie Hart: HA! It was fun to "make fun" of my sister, Thomas. smile Thanks.
Ginnie... Your photography style, (if I may be so blod as to say) reminds me of mine. You frame your shots so very well... Love ya girl. Its a marriage made in photo heaven. looool

And I own a Nikon now too! Its a surprise I chose it, as I've always been a Canon person. I'm with Astrid on this one, heh.
Ginnie Hart: How fun that we can "fight" over our camera brands, Mia. It's like school teams that are arch rivals. grin
