The Pink Palace of the Pacific

Most of you know that we were in Hawaii recently for my daughter's wedding on June 1.
For privacy issues, I will NOT be posting any photos of the actual ceremony.  BUT if you would like to see my wedding album, I'd be glad to send it to you privately.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is a Waikiki Beach icon and was next door to our own hotel.  So I saw it every day.

[Today I am in Atlanta after a successful knee surgery last Friday.  Thanks for all your get-well wishes!]

Great light on this one, Ginnie! I hope the knee is on the mend. After all it has been something like 48 hours smile
Ginnie Hart: It was in the morning, Martin, when the sun was rising over Diamond Head. Fabulous. And yes, the knee is on the mend. As long as I keep it elevated, iced and take my pain meds, I actually think I'll make it. grin I'm even walking on it without crutches. Amazing what technology can do these days, along with a little will power!

Very nice wedding photo, Ginnie.

This, I am guessing, is the top of the wedding cake. [grin]

My first [and last] visit to Waikiki Beach was in 1983, and I seem to recall this icon looked remarkably similar then.
Ginnie Hart: My guess, Ray, is that not a thing has changed on the outside! smile Thanks.
love the smooth building next to the tree. lots to look at. i like it.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Alicia!

That light is stunning, geweldige mooie compositie, mooie kleuren, those colours are so warm, the sky is dramatic with it, love the tree, that makes the picture, meer dan je weet.
The border is ontzettend mooi, you did a very good job, if this is the appetizer for more, I am front row in your theater smile
Ginnie Hart: It was the morning sun coming up over Diamond Head, Astrid. We never had rain the entire time we were there, that I know of. But I sure loved these clouds that morning. Then it was all clear and sunny. You have the front row in my theater any time you want, mijn vriend. smile I would be so honored.

'Hotel California', the Eagles.... Instantly takes me to that cover.

A lovely photograph, with such vivid colours. The palm tree works brilliantly
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Paul. It's a different, lazy world...both California and Hawaii. Thanks.

Ginnie - I WAS there and I can't believe you got this photo. Absolutely spectatular. Love the color on the hotel only with a little bit of sun. Great shot!
Hope you're feeling better even as you read this.
Ginnie Hart: You were lucky to see this fron your hotel room, Judy! I had to walk on the beach in order to see it. But it was well worth it. So many memories! smile

I'm feeling a bit better today...after I was told the piece about elevating my leg, beside icing it. I think that's helping!! Thanks for your care and concern.
There is nothing like this in Bath Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: HA! You've given me quite a smile today, Chris. grin Thanks.

Wow love that colour, hope the knee is behaving and not too painful.
Ginnie Hart: They sure have used that color to their advantage, Aussie, because you can spot this hotel wherever you are, especially when out at sea.

I've had lots of pain BUT I found out I should have been elevating the leg beside icing it, so I think that will help a lot in a couple more hours. Day by day, "this too shall pass!" Thanks.
Lighting is great, good to hear you on the mend.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Nigel, on both counts! smile
Glad both the wedding and knee op went well. Love this picture, the lighting on the pink tower is perfect.
Ginnie Hart: I didn't know the knee would be this painful, Bill, but I found out I should have been elevating it beside icing it. Hopefully I'll see a big difference soon, even today! Thanks for your kind words.

Looks a bit like a wedding cake! Lovely light on the tower contrasting with the darker foreground and the grey sky.
Ingrid
Ginnie Hart: You're not the only one who has said that this looks like a wedding cake, Ingrid. Hmmm. There sure are a lot of weddings on that beach so it wouldn't surprise me if the architect had that in mind?! Thanks.

I am with Astrid on the front row Ginnie waiting impatiently for the rest of your showtongue
Great shot, and yes I would like to see the wedding pic'ssmile
Ginnie Hart: The Musketeers definitely get the front row seats, Tracy! How fun is that! Hope you enjoy the pics!
sorry i already said this on nigel's blog...but...here goes...

a really wedding ("cake" as Ray said) colour, and I like the silhouette of the tree! I'm very glad that your surgery has been so successful, and you seem to be very cheerful! As we in German are saying "Unkraut vergeht nicht!" (ill weeds grow apace)! smile
Ginnie Hart: I've been in a lot of pain, Philine, but now that I know to elevate my leg, I'm sure the pain will subside quickly, with every passing day. I know you know about such things! Thanks for your concern. We will definitely not let weeds grow underneath us! grin

Ginnie Hart: It was a magical tree for me that morning, Chad. Thanks.

Gorgeous shot, too bad it wasn't a sunny looking day! I love how smooth everything looks.

btw, thanks for the b-day wish. as for 63 candles, i'm sure it will work! Where there is will there is a way! right?
Ginnie Hart: It was a sunny day every day we were there, Brian, but for some reason, there were these wonderful clouds in the sky that morning. It cleared up as soon as the sun rose. 63 candles on one cupcake would be quite the feat but I do think we could make it happen! smile

WOW! Perfect light on the pink tower. It could very well be the top layer of a wedding cake. Beautiful colors.
Ginnie Hart: I had never thought of the top of a wedding cake, Marcie, till some of you mentioned it here. What a great idea. Thanks.

The sun reflecting from the pink tower against the dark clouds makes an excellent picture. Reminds me of a shining example smile

Great picture oh mending one.
Ginnie Hart: Mending is the operative word, Louis. Man! I never knew it would be so painful. But now that I'm elevating the leg, it's helping! Thanks.
Beautiful capture Ginnie. The lighting is superb! I hope your knee is not too painful.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Richard. The knee has actually been more painful than I expected, but I found out today that I should be elevating it beside icing it. So maybe it will start getting better?! I hope so. Thanks.

That rich salmon-pink is gorgeously representative of Waikiki Beach. I had a great breakfast there one day in 1974! (I was a baby at the time, in a high chair.)
Ginnie Hart: In 1974?? Wait, that was in between Amy and Mark's births, so you must have been around 18 years old! A high chair??!! smile So, what were you doing there then??? Why don't I remember this?
Fabulous soft pink ... Keep hobbling Ginnie smile richard
Ginnie Hart: Hobble is definitely the operative word, Richard! How did you know! smile Thanks.
Tous mes voeux de bonheur aux jeunes mariés, nous profitons de superbes photos !
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Ceanothe, we all benefited! It was a great time for all. Merci.

Ginnie what goes on? .. After Hawaii your captures have a great drive ;-) ... Nice toning and good framing, i like it!!
Ginnie Hart: Hmmm. Who knows what inspiration we get from the cities we visit all around the world! I guess it happens to all of us, Klaus. Thank you kindly.
That shot of colour is GREAT!
Ginnie Hart: Don't you just love it when that happens?! Thanks, Mary.

This is absolutely lovely, Ginnie. Perfect color against the grey sky. If the wedding album is online somewhere I'd love to view itsmile
Ginnie Hart: I'm glad you liked my album, Sherri, which, of course, is NOT the real photo album. I actually plan to look through all 600 of those pictures tonight. Thanks.

beautiful capture,nice color smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Zohre.
The thumbnail made me think of the first line of an old song Ginnie, "Down by the mission San Miguel". Can't remember who sang it. Defintely got that feel about it.
Ginnie Hart: It indeed reminds me of a mission, Brian. Very true! In that case, it reminds me of California. Many similarities.
Love the play of light and moody backdrop. And what a great colour of salmon!
Ginnie Hart: Gotta love whoever thought it up, Alex! thanks. smile

this is a cracking shot Ginnie - it hits all the spots: strong lines, popping colour against a restrained background, and a touch of the exotic ( well what passes for exotic here in darkest Yorkshire smile )

I'd love to see the wedding album
Ginnie Hart: Hope you enjoyed my album, Paul. It was a great week for all of us!
Fantastic! Brilliant. Incredible resistances. The illuminated color of the pink building is precious!
Ginnie Hart: And you're a sweetheart, José Angel. It was a great way to start my day, seeing that color.
wow, what an amazing contrast between dark sky and the structure, beautiful
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, PT.
I totally love the clouds and tones of grey contrasted with the lit pink. Supurb composition. And I too thought in my head 'Hotel California.'
Ginnie Hart: There is a lot about California that reminds me of Hawaii and vice versa, Karima. I lived in Southern CA for 12 years, so I know. smile Thanks.
Lighting and contrast smile
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, CISI. Thanks. smile
