Joey

I had hoped like the dickens to get a shot of a kangaroo while in Australia but never once thought I'd be so lucky
to get one with a joey included, on Magnetic Island.

Okay, so this is a rock wallaby
, but it's a kangaroo as far as I'm concerned!
Even though this is out "in the wild," unaccessible by car,
the tour guides always bring food pellets, just so we tourists can see them up close and personal.

[Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

I see you made some local friends. I'd love to see one of these close up. Very nicely done!
Ginnie Hart: They were enthralling, Martin. Almost as soulful as the koala! smile

Wow, very beautiful and sharp.
Ginnie Hart: It was a delight to behold, Cako! smile
I saw lots of kangaroos there but the only joey was wrapped in a towel and placed in a backpack worn around the front of a wildlife park staff. It was very interesting to see them copying the deceased mother.
Ginnie Hart: WOW! That sure is interesting, Mary. Makes sense to me! smile

Must be nearly time to leave home, Ginnie - or be kicked out.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Surely you are right, Chad. He seemed quite able to fend for himself when it came to picking up those pellets! smile

Ginnie Hart: It was something I'll never forget, lieve Astrid. The Universe seemed to be smiling on me that day. smile Thank you!
Great shot Ginnie, how lucky to get the Joey as well. This particular animal looks quite a small breed. (From the animal here and my surname guess what my unwanted nickname was at school?)
Ginnie Hart: Awwww. You poor thing, Brian. But I can think of worse things to be called, definitely!!! smile Thanks.
Always nice to see some local animals when you travel.
You are a lucky traveler Ginnie smile
Ginnie Hart: I feel very lucky, Magnus. Very! Thanks.

Have you tried joey steaks while in Oz. My friend says it is great - but when I see them in pictures, they look like overgrown rats. I don't eat rat under normal circumstances smile

Great marsupial picture
Ginnie Hart: No, Louis, I never tried joey steaks! Or crocodile meat or anything else. Just lamb!!! smile
Still a nice portrait even if it was a bit orchestrated.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Nigel. Now you know why I was so excited to kind the koala on my own in the wild. No food pellets to entice it! smile
