photoblog image A Meet-Up?

A Meet-Up?

I took this pic on a Saturday back in July at 8:45 in the evening here in Amsterdam, alongside one of the canals.  As you see, it was still plenty light outside.  Beer and cigarettes and...each other?  Don't you wish you could get inside their heads!

Tomorrow morning I fly to London for the SC BBQ meet-up (returning to Amsterdam on Sunday).
I know we'll be a motley crew but surely we won't look anything like this?!

Seems things are the same the world over, just hanging out with friends. (Around here they'd probably be sitting in front of the lake at somebody's cottage, though.)
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Karen, I'm sure you're right. Thanks.
Nice tones Granny!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, NaCha. Too bad you can't be at the meet-up tomorrow!

This doesn't look very different from when I grew up. It almost makes me feel nostalgic.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Martin. So true! Thanks.
Doesn't look like they're really having much fun, though, does it?

I hope you have an excellent time at the meet-up. smile
Ginnie Hart: There really is an emptiness in this pic for me, Red Pen. Not quite sure what it is. Maybe it's the girl in the middle?

Anyway, thanks for your comment and the best wishes for tomorrow's meet-up!

Nice study, Ginnie.
Looks like the alcohol hasn't kicked in and relaxed the group yet...they do seem to each be in their own coccoon.
This is the first picture of yours where the bicycles seem to be treated disdainfully.
Ginnie Hart: "In their own cocoon" is most apropos, Ray. And those bikes...just wouldn't let them have center attention this time around. smile

Thanks for your comment and the best wishes for tomorrow's meet-up!

There's a lovely feel to this Ginnie. I'm just dropping in to say a quick 'hi'. Sorry for not being around lately, but the wrist is still far from normal and I'm still limiting my keyboard use.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for your comment, Jimbo, even with your bad wrist. I do wish the best for you in the healing department!

Loved it, Ginnie! It looks like they are having a very nice summer. wink

Have a great time in London. Give my best to all, and take lots of pics with that beautiful new camera of yours smile
Ginnie Hart: It's hard for me to tell if it's been a nice summer or not for this group. Hmm. At least they're together. Thanks, Kay.

And thanks for your best wishes for tomorrow's meet-up!
I love how you captured the sense of apathy that is so alive in teenagers everywhere.
Ginnie Hart: Apathy is the word I've been looking for, Jewlya. Thanks for finding it for me!!!

Funny, lovely... I do like teen agers expressions. Nice picture Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Teenagers! I'm so glad I'm not that age any more, aren't you, Roland?! Thanks.

Bonjour tristesse? I don't hope. The life is too interessant and beatiful!
Ginnie Hart: There IS a sadness here to me, Philine. Jewlya used the word 'apathy,' which is what this feels like to me as well. Thanks.
Typical the world over. I had a wall to hang out on too when I was their age.
Ginnie Hart: But I bet you didn't look this sad/apathetic, Mary! Thanks.
It just wouldn't be as effective without that guys legs handing down! Love it!
Have fun at the meet up!
Ginnie Hart: I was wondering who'd first mention that, Him. YOU! smile I agree.

Thanks for your comment and the best wishes for tomorrow's meet-up!
wow! quelle belle prise. cela donne un air si agréable à cette photo
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, O-P.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Petra. You're a sweetheart!
Wow! Ginnie. That activity you have! You do not lose any event nor encounter! Bravo! Surely that we will see many photos of that encounter here in SC. I wish you that you amuse yourselves!
Ginnie Hart: HA! I do quite amuse myself, Jose. That's for sure. smile Thank you kindly!
I absolutely love this G, it evokes a strong feeling of togetherness in me! smile really excited abt u coming thru!
Ginnie Hart: Can hardly wait, Ade! I can already see your smile. smile

The morning after the night before ,no regrets at that age I remember it well!! It's just the head that takes a beating. Hope you have a fantastic time at S/S's will be thinking of you all. No doubt the new toy will be tagging along and some snaps will be appearing very soon.(I hope). Enjoy your Weekend smile smile
Ginnie Hart: HA! Some of us know these things more than others. smile

And yes, I'm sure there will be quite a few posts of the meet-up all over SC in the days/weeks to come. Thanks for thinking of us. smile
This is a universal scene, talking with friends and probably trying to re-imagine a better world !
Ginnie Hart: Universal is a good word, Flo. I agree. Thanks.
Nice candid picture. Ah to be young?
Ginnie Hart: Actually, Bill, I don't think I'd want to go back! It's gotta be so hard being a teenager these days. You think? Oh well, at least the thought is nice. Thanks.

Great photo, Ginnie - I love the composition with the one pair of legs dangling over the edge. I think they're just chilling out, not necessarily apathetic, but probably stoned!
Ginnie Hart: Well, you may be right, Ingrid. Not that I would know. grin
Lovely capture here Ginnie, will be seeing you tomorrow, my nephew will be picking you up from the airport by the way smile Have to make sure everything is well and ready for whoever turns up grin

Just come back from a spot of shopping for tomorrow, hope I have not got to much food now smile
Ginnie Hart: I totally understand, S/S. Gotta mind the home fires, for sure. I look forward to meeting you all, nephew included. Thanks.

This is an interesting study of young people, Ginnie. Great work.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Chad!
You have a great knack of finding excellent `people` shots. This is a really lovely capture. (:o)

I distinctly don't want to go inside their heads. That may be a shocking experience for puritan me.

Excellent group shot and yes by their relaxed appearance I would have guessed late in the day.

You go and enjoy the meeting. Did you know I would have the guest speaker, but unfortunately I missed the flight.
Ginnie Hart: We could have used a guest speaker, Louis, who would have organized us all into a group photo. grin

I'm with you, I'm afraid, on being too puritan to know what this pic is all about. It was not part of my experience and I'm still not sure if that was loss or gain!
They don't look entirely happy in each other's company. Nice capture. All the best, Dave.
Ginnie Hart: I wish I could identify better with this pic, Dave, but I'm afraid I can't. This was not part of my conservative, fundamentalist experience!
i really really like this photograph, it makes me think about each of the people in the image, they look stoned...

its hard to decide if they were knowing you were pointing your shooting apparatus at them?
Ginnie Hart: I don't think they ever once looked at me, Robert, which may mean they really were stoned. Thank you kindly for stopping by and commenting.

I like the expanse of wall you included in the frame. They're on top of the world.

If your motley crew looks like this today, I think that would be cool! grin
Ginnie Hart: This is the pic, Ruth, that I told you I thought was more B&W than sepia. But maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me?

It's strange to me that I have no experiences of this kind of growing up whatsoever. All my youth activities were church related. Can you relate to this photo???

This is one of my fav photos you have posted. I love photos of people. Great moments frozen!
Ginnie Hart: That means a lot, Roger, coming from you. I think you're the Master of people shots! Thanks.
Hi Ginnie!
Really like this shot. The wondering young people and it's soo Amsterdam like!

Love it smile
Ginnie Hart: Have you ever been to Amsterdam, Susan? It's a great city! And now I'm hoping you're settling in and finding your way in the big city there in London. Do keep me informed of any progress you make in looking for a job. You know I'll be eager to hear!
Funny and optimist, I like it !!
Ginnie Hart: The eternal optimist. I bet that's who you are, Zeb. smile
