photoblog image For You, Dad

For You, Dad

This is for my dad, who died in 1995 of lung cancer.  He was a preacher and never smoked a day in his life.  He was 78.

Dad was a man of many talents.  He was a professional sign painter and helped subsidize his meager salary in the early days.  He was also a pen and ink artist and made his own bookplate, which you can see here.  The bookplate is of a hart (a male red deer--Dad had red hair, as do I).

Whenever I go by this canal house, I always think of you, Dad.

"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God."
Psalms 42:1

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

That's a beautiful building and photo. Way to look up. I think he's watching over you up there.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Ruth, I totally agree. It was an awesome feeling when I first saw it a couple months ago! I didn't see the 'Groene Hart' words till after I opened it up on the big screen!
Very nice, Ginnie. You always do these tributes so well.
Ginnie Hart: You are so kind to say that, Karen. Thank you.

A touching tribute, Ginnie. A beautiful thought on Father's Day.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Jimbo.
You are visiting al te 'nice' places of the BeNeLux, aren't you wink ? For Tourists: You can visit also Ghent, Brussels or Antwerpen. Brugge is very nice too, but personaly for me, it's a little bit too touristic.

Why tourists are not visiting Charleroi or Liege instead? Then you can see the 'other' side of Belgium (deticated too the flickr group)...

But anyway, I hope you had a great time in Brugge...
Ginnie Hart: It IS touristy, Tim. In fact it seemed much more so than from what we remembered 9 years ago. But that's okay because Amsterdam is touristy also--just a bit bigger!

But thanks for your other suggestions. Over time, perhaps we can see them all. We did see Brussels and Antwerpen 9 years ago but they are just figments of my imagination right now since we were there for too short a period of time.
A lovely way to rembember too Ginnie smile
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Chris. Thanks.

Hi Ginnie, I have left a commentary in your blogspot, but it is possible that you see that is signed with another name. I have had problems to form it, http://never-is.blogspot.com:) A great tribute for your father!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for letting me know that was you, Jose. You are such a sweetheart. Thank you so much!

Excellent picture and find. Very appropriate to the use you are putting - even in the detail of your name. Hart not to notice.
Ginnie Hart: I'm glad YOU noticed, Louis! Believe it or not, I never saw the name on the gable till I transferred it to the big screen. It just about blew me away!

Thank you, kind sir.
His bookplate is amazing. This is a great tribute to your father, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Red Pen. I'm very proud of my dad and that bookplate! smile
