Van Gogh's Coffeeshop

Only 4 blocks from our apartment, sitting on a corner on the Prinsengracht canal, is this La Tertulia coffeeshop run by a mother and daughter team since 1983.  It apparently has some of the best weed and hash in Amsterdam.  But not that I would know. :)

What I love about the coffeeshop is this mural on the terrace facing the canal, depicting Van Gogh .  And from the above link, for you UKers, "This is where Michelle was filmed for 'Eastenders' when she tried her first joint."

I wonder if Van Gogh smoked good weed/hash??  Anybody know?  :)

On that note, have a great weekend!

[Today Donica and I fly from Amsterdam to Atlanta on Delta and KLM, respectively.  But we turn around and come back on Sunday/Monday, respectively.  We're going home to celebrate Donica's mom's 67th birthday!]

Great shot and pp Ginnie...like it a lot! Have a great weekend too.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, bridge. Got a good night's sleep and am ready to hit the day running. smile
I like the playful processing you've used on this.
Ginnie Hart: Playful is a good word, Red Pen. That's exactly how I felt when I did it. smile Thanks.

yeah, ginnie, good processing here, must have taken a while. kinda wish the corner of the building was left colored. have a safe flight both ways, that's a lot of flying in a short period!
Ginnie Hart: The corner of the building is actually that color, Alex, but the bricks above are a brownish color. So I decided to just color the "art." But thanks for your comment, as always.

And thanks for the journey wishes. I just found out this morning that I'll be flying back tomorrow, and not on Monday, so it's a faster turn-around than I expected. But this way I'll be able to go back with Donica on the same day, even tho' on different planes!

Creatuve pp, I like.

Have a safe journey Ginnie.

ps. So jealous of Ade she got to hang out with you. Was wondering if you'd kindly agree to be my SC mum as well? smile
Ginnie Hart: You are a total sweetheart, Sinem. You couldn't honor me more! That means I have a lot to live up to in privilege and responsibility both. I humbly accept. Thank you.

Tremendous processing Ginnie. Highly imaginative, and beautifully done. Super shot. For me, the best so far from Amsterdam.
Ginnie Hart: You are so sweet, Jimbo. Thank you kindly.
I like your Dutch street scenes. They are a friendly bunch and it shows in your pictures.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, they are. Martin. Thank you kindly.
The selective colouring, if that's what it is called, is very cool here. It gives the photo an almost three dimensional look with the figures in black and white and grey sitting on top of it all. Cool!
Ginnie Hart: Thank a million, Mary. I had a lot of fun with this one. smile
You are the Master of Selective Coloring, Ginnie! Very well done smile Thank you so much for showing us around Amsterdam! Have a good trip back to the States, and a good weekend, as well!
Ginnie Hart: You are a sweetheart, Kay. Thanks for your kind words, as always. I love showing you around Amstewrdam, as long as you continue looking. smile

And thanks for the journey wishes. I just found out this morning that I'll be flying back tomorrow, and not on Monday, so it's a faster turn-around than I expected. But this way I'll be able to go back with Donica on the same day, even tho' on different planes!
Oh, I like this very much. So crisp and inviting.
Ginnie Hart: It does make you want to sit there for at least a cup of coffee, right, Karen?! smile
This is awesome Ginnie - you are getting better at this PP thing with each day. Wow, I cudn't resist showing this to my team mates. I'm specially impressed by the way you have left the flowers on the tables and the coffee mug in the table at the center, along with the wall, colored.

You have a nice flight to Atlanta and back. Enjoy your weekend smile
Ginnie Hart: You noticed even the table accessories, Thomas! What a sweetheart. Thank you so much. I really had fun with this one. smile

Wow... What a nice shot and a good work Ginnie. Have a nice WE too !
Ginnie Hart: You are very kind, Roland. Thanks.

this selective colouring is really working out for you wink outstanding choice of post processing ginnie. i am pretty sure van gogh smoked something, he was an artist!
Ginnie Hart: HA! I love your comment, Genevieve. It gave me a good laugh. Thanks. smile
you do these too well, I like it.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Sir Dotun. It looks like we're all developing our niche. smile
Well done Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Shakara.
"Everybody must get stoned" (Bob Dylan)
Actually I do not agree at all.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Me neither, Wim. I'll leave it to everyone else to have that kind of "fun."

This is a very cool scene, and I love the mural too. Mr. van Gogh and his sunflowers seem to be just part of the conversation over coffee.

BTW, I tried my first selective coloring last night, and I think I'm doing something wrong. Maybe when you're in Atlanta we can phone up and you can walk me through it. smile

Happy journey!
Ginnie Hart: I do and about-face every time I pass this scene, Ruth. It still surprises nme to see it...and so near the apartment!

Ginnie, I forgot to say: That sounds like a very tiring schedule you and Donica have! Happy birthday to Donica's mum too, of course.
Ginnie Hart: As I've been telling everyone else, Jimbo, I just found out this morning that I'll be flying back tomorrow, and not on Monday, so it's a faster turn-around than I expected. But this way I'll be able to go back with Donica on the same day, even tho' on different planes!

It's become old hat for us by now, to travel back-n-forth, especially for Donica, who often does a turn-around in a weekend. This is MY first time to do that, however. So far so good. smile

Sexy pp for this coffee shop. Probably the only country where going to the coffee shop means that you will flex a joint. So if you have an issue with smoking, take a space cake - goes well with the coffee smile

Excellent pp - is that what you do to pass time on these never ending flights? Process your pictures?
Ginnie Hart: HA! You're a riot, Louis. smile

Actually, I never take my laptop out on my flights. That's when I read! And BTW, as I've been telling everyone else, I just found out this morning that I'll be flying back tomorrow, and not on Monday, so it's a faster turn-around than I expected. But this way I'll be able to go back with Donica on the same day, even tho' on different planes!
Beautiful selective color. I think Van Gogh was into absinthe.

Safe travel and happy birthday to Donica's mum!
Ginnie Hart: Are you serious about the absinthe, Josie, or was that a joke? Anyway, very interesting. And thanks for the comment.

I'm sure Van Gogh would approve, super treatment of this picture Ginnie.

Have a good weekend, and enjoy the celebrations smile

What a great selective colours, I especially like the tone of B&W on faces of girls. Have you done anything special about it or it just came up after converting to B&W?
Ginnie Hart: No, Monika, nothing special at all except the usual desaturation and contrast/sharpening tweaks. Thanks. I sure do get a kick outta doing these, can you tell? smile
Very nicely done, great work on desaturation and selective colors : Bravo !!
Ginnie Hart: Awww. Thanks, Zeb! smile

Great job indeed. I think van Gogh took something more "serious". I mean didn't he cut his ear off? Sounds like a horror trip. wink
Ginnie Hart: Yes, sadly, he did, Julia. And later he committed suicide! So you may very well be right.

My wife, daughter, and myself had coffee and pastries in this cafe in the Autumn of 1986 while on business/vacation. Thanks for sharing.
Ginnie Hart: Awww. How sweet of you, Robert, to stop by and comment here. Thank you kindly. I tried to find your site but it wouldn't take me there. I'll try again.
