Calm, Cool and Collected

This pic was taken back on March 8th before we moved into our Amsterdam apartment, when spring had  barely sprung.  All the canals were nice and quiet.  Calm, cool and collected.

Bet your bottom dollar there will be traffic jams up and down all the canals of Amsterdam today while I meet up with Petra, assuming it's not raining (it's supposed to be sunny)!  I wanted you to see the calm before the storm because one day soon I'll show you a traffic jam!

[Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

As I just said to Ellie, I would love to see Europe but since I can't, thank you for showing me some of the sights.
Ginnie Hart: You're more than welcome, Mary. Thank YOU!
Excellent ly titled. It does make me feel like going for a walk. Was the air arround there any good?.
Ginnie Hart: The air always feels wonderful here in A'dam, Busola, especially after how smoggy Atlanta can be. Did you take your walk?? smile
Oh Ginnie, you are so lucky to have all of this in your backyard! smile No wonder you moved to Amsterdam. It's so lovely. I'm placing this shot in my likeys.

P.S. Have fun with Petra!
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Kay. Thank you. I AM very lucky and grateful!!

I had a WONderful time with Petra. We took a bike ride and had the best weather. But more of that later....

Lovely shot Ginnie - somehow the idea of a canal jam doesn't sound as bad as the normal sort
Ginnie Hart: I think you're right, Paul. It's kinda fun to watch it from "above" on the bridges. smile
Lovely shot Ginnie, can't wait to see a jam!
Ginnie Hart: HA! One of these days soon....
very nice capture of the scene!
lovely contrasting colours!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Kairospix. And thanks for stopping by and commenting.
It's really a very nice town, I can spend hours looking at this kind of shots smile
Have a nice week Ginnie !!
Ginnie Hart: You are so right about this town, Zeb. I love it!

You, too, have a great week!
Ah! this is such a sweet shot of a very peaceful scene and it's so well composed. Would make a picture for a postcard. You're so blessed - getting to see all these wonderful places.
Ginnie Hart: I do feel very blessed, Mo. Thank you for being part of that process for me.
Excellent shot and very well composed ... I totally agree with Morenike smile very nice, been too bust to put any photos up this weekend!
Ginnie Hart: You're in that wind-down time of your stay here in Holland, Ade. Be good to yourself and we'll find you again when you have time to post. Can you believe the weekend is almost over??!!
I must admit the first thing that came to mind when I read your blog was cars and stuff, not boats! So it's canal rage and not road rage then ? smile

Hope the sun shines on you both!
Ginnie Hart: HA! You got it, PP. smile

The sun definitely shone on us in more ways than one. It didn't start raining till the very end of our time, when it was okay and time to leave. It was wonderful, all of it.

You really make me want to visit Amsterdam. It's more than ten years since I've last been there. And I don't care about the Stau on the canals. wink
Ginnie Hart: It's definitely time for you to come back, Julia...when I can meet you. I would like that! smile
Strange with these canals - it has something in common with Venice, and at the same time it is so different...
Ginnie Hart: Canals they have in common, Aksel, for sure. But while I won't see Venice till October, I'm quite sure they will feel very different! Thanks for the comparison.
j'étais certain qu'il s'agissait des pays-bas. très beau
Ginnie Hart: Very beautiful indeed, O-P!

Gorgeous! The blue and red just pop in this photo. The clarity is fantastic. Can't wait until we can visit! I haven't been there since 1975. :|
Ginnie Hart: Blue and ORANGE, Ruth. smile Very, very Dutch, this orange stuff. grin But I would never have known that had I not been here. 1975 is way too long ago. I'm surprised you can even remember that you came at all. smile
how beautiful, absolutely love the lovely blue tones and the tones of the buildings...
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Jen. It was such a beautiul early-spring day when the bare trees still allowed a good view of the buildings.

Chocolate box or jigsaw picture Ginnie, well taken smile
Ginnie Hart: Jigsaw puzzle, definitely. Good idea. But chocolate box? That's a new one for me, Chris. Hmmm. I like it. smile

I thought jigsaw puzzle, too lol smile
Love the Amsterdam scenery, Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: I hadn't thought of a jigsaw puzzle till Chris mentioned it. I LOVE jigsaw puzzles! Thanks for the idea, Deb. smile

It looks magnificent Ginnie, in a way I'm glad you were able to take a picture before the leaves arrived because it gives me a chance to get a really good look at the buildings. smile
Ginnie Hart: I totally agree, Ellie. These canals have a different feel now that the trees arch over them and cover up the buildings, especially on the narrower canals. Thanks for your comment.

Great, perfect title Ginne. One of these I'll get a chance to see more of Amsetrdam than just a couple of hours between flights. Looking forward to hearing how your meeting wiith Petra goes.
Ginnie Hart: Just let me know when you plan to come, Jimbo! smile I'd love to show you around!
All that and very Dutch. Nice capture of what this place feels like.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Martin. That's what I thought! Even got in some of the important orange. smile
very crisp, I like it.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
this is a lovely image ginnie. so calm and peaceful.
Ginnie Hart: When I was out walking to meet Petra around 9:30a yesterday, it had this same calming feel, when the world was not yet up and about outside. It made me realize that I need to get out at that time on the weekends more often! Thanks for stopping by, Genevieve.

amsterdam looks so interesting and unique! is there truly any city in the world like it? that's an honest question, not a rhetorical one. smile
Ginnie Hart: No, Alex, I think it IS totally unique. Venice has its canals as well but it's nothing like A'dam, from what I've seen. We'll be there in October when I can find out for myself. smile
