NYC-JFKennedy Int'l Airport

HA!  Tell me you're surprised!

On my way from Atlanta to Amsterdam on Monday, I transferred at NYC's John F. Kennedy Int'l Airport and, YES, I found the control tower!  It was around 5:30p (17:30).

Add this now to NYC's LaGuardia tower, Amsterdam's, and Atlanta's.  I told you I collect these!  :)

It's a striking structure Ginnie. Very modernistic. I wonder when it dates from? I remember when I was studying architecture Eero Saarinen's terminal building (1962) was much discussed and admred, but I doubt if this tower is Saarinen's work.
Ginnie Hart: I don't know about the tower, Jimbo, but the airport dates back to 1947 when it was called Idlewild Airport. I just looked up Eero Saarinen in Wiki and found out he did the TWA terminal at JFK, so you may be right! Wow. That's pretty cool. I just got my education from you. Thanks. smile

Quite a unique tower. I like the inclusion of the gate number in the frame.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for saying that about the gate number, Red Pen, because I went back-n-forth on keeping it in or not. Hope you have a great weekend.
Ginnie, awesome picture ... almost beginning to think u collect everything; gables, tablets and now towers ....smile
Ginnie Hart: HA! I have a big smile on my face now, Ade. You know for sure that I'm not kidding when I say I "collect" things. And yes, add clocks and weather vanes and spires and canals, bridges.... The list just grows. smile

Hope you're having a great weekend! Don't work too hard.
lol, Ginnie! Great picture.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Bridge. smile
Ohhh Ginnie, que lío !! Ya me he perdido! Ahora ya no se si estas allí, o si estas aquí... bufff. Lol .. es una broma wink Me gusta el color "triste" de la foto !!

Ohhh Ginnie, that mess! I already have myself lost! Now no longer if these there, or if these here... bufff. Lol.. is a jokewink I like "the sad" color of the photo!
Ginnie Hart: HA! Don't know if I'm coming or going any more, or where I am, I know, Jose! I love it.

I hate to say, but I'm afraid the "sad color" is probably NYC smog!
That's a gem shot, lol! Well done! smile
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Fehinti. Thanks. smile

Ginnie Hart: Actually, David, you may be more right than I wish to believe. I might be forced to start minding my P's and Q's!

Ever heard of the German gameshow Wetten dass...(wetten=to bet)? You could apply with a bet that you know all US and European airport towers (or weather vanes). wink
Nicely done Ginnie! smile
Ginnie Hart: HaHa, Julia. NO, I don't know that show. But really, I just have a handful of these, when you think about it. smile
Great architecture... sci-fi ! !
Ginnie Hart: I agree about the sci-fi part, Florence! Very. smile

I've just read all your other comments, and you know I think I can relate a bit to what Jose has written, it does look awfully lonely and a bit 'lost' standing there on its own.

It always amazes me how some of these structures stay upright, this one looks as if it's got counterbalances built it. Good gentle colours there too, and not a cloud in the sky!
Ginnie Hart: No clouds, Ellie, but a bit of smog. UGH! What amazes me most about these towers is how different they all are. They each have their own personality, don't they!

Oops, forgot. Hope you had a good time today smile
Ginnie Hart: We had a great time with Matt and James yesterday and a super time with Petra today. I'm still on cloud 9! smile
This is a great traffic tower, Ginnie! I think this one's my favorite smile
Ginnie Hart: Awww. How special, Kay. They each do seem to have their own personality, don't they!
Nice collection smile These buildings are so impressive !!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Zeb. Each one has its own personality! smile
Enough control towers might make an interesting exhibition of photographs Ginnie - contrasting styles, architecture etc, etc. You're on your way already!
Ginnie Hart: That is definitely an idea, PP, if I can continue to get away with it!!
The links didn't work for me! But I love this structure. Maybe it's best I don't compare it with others. smile
