The Queen's Birthday

No, not YOUR queen.  Holland's!

Today is a public holiday for Holland in honor of the present Queen Beatrix's late mother, Julianna Louise Emma Marie Wilhelmina, who was born on 30 April 1909 in The Hague as the only child of Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Hendrik. She died on 20 March 2004 at the age of 94.

These flowers sat outside our Amsterdam apartment two weeks ago.  I post them today for the Queen.

Happy Birthday.  Happy Holiday.

[Today I'm in Atlanta.]

The colors are so vibrant, lovely, lovely!
Ginnie Hart: Lavender is one of my favorite colors, Dotun! Thanks.
I see you are going native on us! As long as it results in pictures like this, I have no objection smile
Ginnie Hart: I hope so, Martin. My brother married a Dutch girl, so I feel like I've had a head start. smile
If you read the section on her exile, you will see a strong connection with Canada. A gift of tulip bulbs from the Queen was made annually. In 2004, there was some worry that the annual gift would cease, but the royal family is honouring the tradition. So, Ottawa's tulip festival continues.
Ginnie Hart: Wow, Karen. I didn't know about the connection to Canada. What a nice tradition with the tulip bulbs. I learn something new every day!
that looks like lavender ginnie. very lovely capture. beautiful lighting too.
Ginnie Hart: Oh, yes, Genevieve. It may be my favorite flower in the whole world. I especially like it dried. Thanks.

Ginnie Hart: We were so disappointed, Petra, when we found out we'd miss Holland today! But our vacation to NYC had been planned far in advance. Maybe next year we'll make sure we're there. Actually, Donica has been there in the past on April 30th and said it was indeed a Party! Have a good time for me. smile
happy birthday so
très belles fleurs
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, O-P.

Quite a bash in that country. Some towns are so-called orange-towns - an indication that the population in general are pro-royalty. The bash in these places normally takes the form of a day long festival.

Queen and entourage pick a town somewhere in Holland and make an official visit to that place and participate (in a stately way) in the festivities. Sons and grandsons less stately.

About the picture - great composition - I don't know if I am babbling, but I do have the feeling that over the last month or so your compositions became even more thought through than before.
And your A'dam tour de force - just love it.
Ginnie Hart: As I told Petra, Donica has been there on this day in the past and totally agrees about the party/festival atmosphere! Maybe next year we can plan to be there!

Thank you very much, Louis, for your kind words about my pics. I do think SC is helping all of us to get better, don't you think?!
You'll be an honorary Dutchwoman soon Ginnie wink I can smell the lavender now smile
Ginnie Hart: I like that thought, Chris. I'll gladly be an honorary Dutchwoman. Thanks. smile
Oh Ginnie... it's really a shame that you are missing Queen's Day in the NL this year--- it's quite a party and truly an unforgetable experience. Maybe next year?
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Kim. We had already planned the NYC vacation far in advance for this year, but maybe next year we'll plan better. Donica has been there before on this day and can attest to the party it is.

Glad to see you again! I thought of you often while we were in NYC last week because of your trip there last year. I bet we saw many of the same things. I'll start sorting pics for SC this week.

I really like the dapple of light tones through the shade of the leaves on the woodwork of the bench, very lovely image Ginnie. mal
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Mal. Thanks.
like the bright bright tones...how much work in pshop?
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Sam. I almost always tweak highlights and contrast in PS, and sometimes shadows. But as I recall, this one was mostly just highlights and a bit of contrast.

Mmm, I can almost smell it. Maybe my fave too.

And how nice that the Queen and my little princess share the same birthday. grin
Ginnie Hart: It's funny, Ruth, but I never connected the two birthdays! DUH!
Beautiful flowers, Ginnie! I can almost smell the lavender now! Lovely.
Ginnie Hart: I know, Kay. I can, too. Lavender is such a good smell for calming us, isn't it. smile
