photoblog image Friday's Canal

Friday's Canal

I'm not sure I can explain this pic!  It was taken just before 5p on Easter Monday on a wonderfully sunny day in Amsterdam.  Still very spring-like.  I converted it to B&W because the 4th building in had red, unsightly, renovation mesh covering it.  Not very pretty.

But after the simple conversion, it looked more like a storm had just blown through.  It totally surprised me!

[Today Donica and I are in New York City on vacation!]

Hi Ginnie! Great choice on the conversion. I like how the trees look, and the reflections on the water. smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Kay.
a good BW shot to end this week, it's well done.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Dotun.

i love how u used the sunlight to illuminate the building and canal, it makes the clean and crisp
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, àsìkò.
Great shot Ginnie, looks almost like an infra-red one ! Amazing contrast on B&W.
Ginnie Hart: Hmmm. Someone else said the same thing, Florence. I'm not exactly sure what that is but I'll take your word for it. smile
OooOOOOOOHoh Ginnie, lets take a walk arround there sometime. Excellent.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Okay, Busola. Any time you make it to A'dam, just let me know. smile
This is one of those shots Ginnie where you don't have to explain it, the shot makes one look deep enough to find the explaination on their own.

Excellent

J
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Johnny. I'll remember that. smile

No storm, the water is much too calm. The sky may look like one coming on. Your conversion to B&W to hide the restauration works worked excellent.

I can't help but observe that since you have started on A'dam you went on an artistic tour - producing the one excellent pic after the other. Great work, old Rembrant Hart or is it Ginnie van Gogh (that watercolour was nearly in his style). I get the feeling that you and that town agree with each other.

Enjoy your stay in New Amsterdam.
Ginnie Hart: Your words are so kind, Louis, and a bit too flattering, but I'll accept them. grin I think you're right. The city DOES agree with me. That's a nice way to look at it. Thank you.

I agree with Louis that you and A'dam agree with each other. This photo reminds me of a Bresson or another one of the early photog masters who captured European cities.
Ginnie Hart: Oh my, Ruth. You and Louis both have me blushing. You're way too flattering but I'll take that as a vote of confidence. Thank you. I like thinking that A'dam agrees with me because I think you're right!
Hi Ginnie - good choice for B&W and it hides the renovation very well. Have fun in NY.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Bernie. We leave for home (Atlanta) tomorrow after a fantastic week. Can hardly wait to start showing some of the pics!
Very nice composition and wonderful idea to choose B&W !!
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Zeb. Thanks!
Has an infra red feel Ginnie, like it smile
Ginnie Hart: I'm not sure what that is, Chris, but I'll take your word for it. Thanks. smile
Oh, I love the moody sky in this one. Great choice on the conversion, Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Karen.
The trees and the sky is great smile
Ginnie Hart: Glad you like them, Aksel. Thanks.
B/W landscapes are often ruined by sludgy skies...but as you have said the "storm" effect does lend a bit of pizzaz to an otherwise ordinary scene...
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Sam!

Ginnie Hart: I feel very lucky to travel as much as I do, Alex, especially at the sunset of my years. Ansterdam is one of the MOST unique cities of them all.
