Bennett's Stairway

Between the cottage and deck (the last 2 pics) is the stairway down to the lakefront...in May!  It won't look this inviting now in winter, but you get the idea.

My 3-year younger brother, Bennett, helped my dad build these steps over 12 years ago.  My dad died in 1995 and a year later, Bennett joined him after a heart attack.  He had never married and left behind no children.  These steps have remained sacred to me over the years, which is why I call them Bennett's Stairway.

We will NOT have Internet access while at the cottage, so please forgive me while I auto-post pics without the ability to reply to comments or visit your own sites.  I promise to catch up when I return after the 1st.

Hiya Ginnie and family, I do hope you are having a real ball in the "wilds". This is a lovely photo and a very fitting and heartfelt memorial to both Bennet and your Dad. Great work lovely lady. Warmest wishes and kindest regards, Neil.-x-

Rememberance and yes it is the time of the year.

Lovely photo and thanks for sharing.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Louis. Remembrance is the second blessing. I appreciate that you visited me here while I was there. smile
How symbolic!
What a beautiful memorial.
Happy New Year and Peace, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Josie. You've "known" Bennett for some time now, haven't you. I appreciate that you visited me here while I was there. smile

That's quite a feat, to build a functioning stairway down that slope ... that actually works! Well done your Dad and your brother. I think you should name the steps permanently as Bennet's Steps, with a plaque.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Ellie, it WAS a significant accomplishment and is still standing after all these years. They obviously both built it to last. I like the idea of a plaque for Bennett's Steps! And I appreciate that you visited me here while I was there. smile

Speaking of Bennett, you have to go to Prince Edward Island. You will feel his spirit with you as you tour the towns. It's such an amazing little place. It is full of goodness.
Ginnie Hart: It's funny that you'd mention that, Mad, because Bennett drove senior citizens there many a time when he was a tour bus driver. He also drove them to Peggy's Cove, where I HAVE been. It really is a small world, isn't it!
