photoblog image Star Fountain, 1993

Star Fountain, 1993

We first heard of Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) last year in Hannover, Germany, where 3 of her Nanas were gifted to the city.  I won't take your time to tell you about this incredible woman and her art, if she's new to you.  Just click on the link if you want more.

You can imagine our serendipitous JOY when we discovered our Atlanta Botanical Garden was exhibiting several of her sculptures over the past summer months and through December of this year.  For me it was a link between Hannover and Atlanta, where we live throughout the year.

This Star Fountain sculpture, from 1993, welcomes you to the exhibition.  So I, too, will start here in a little series of breath-taking art from an amazing woman.  Enjoy.

Wow ginnie!! you have such a braw collection of images.. I just love coming here.. thank you for this shot.. very interesting. ~S.
Ginnie Hart: You've just taught me a new word, Sorcha: braw! Thank you, even though I'm not totally sure what it means. smile

Ever so often there comes along a talent that is so incredible that our minds are blown away. Niki is one such person for me and our world. Her work reminds me of Antonio Gaudi's from Barcelona. In fact, his work greatly influenced hers. And to think that she just recently passed away. She was a woman of our time!
Wow. This is a great sculpture. And you have captured it well. Though disappointed - Was expecting your potrait smile
Ginnie Hart: HA HA! Thanks, Sarthak. Someone needs to tell me about this portrait theme. Where does it come from; where can I find it? And do I have a deadline? smile

My goodness, what a sculpture! I'll have to save one of those links and find some time to read some more about the artiste. Thanks Ginnie, a great shot too. smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Ellie. You would be in total awe of what this woman did in her lifetime. Unbelievable. What we had on exhibit in our botanical garden was just a drop in the bucket (maybe 75-100 scuptures, of which I'll only be showing maybe 10. As you can see, I can't say enough about her! But pictures definitely speak louder than words. The problem is that these are so big that to get the whole thing in the pic takes away from seeing a close-up of the mosaic pieces. So you'll just be seeing bits-n-pieces (ha--pun intended).
Powerful! I like the yellow and red details breaking the blue monochromy.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, El Dani. And every time you look, you'll see something new! Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Ginnie. Looks like a sculpture of Pammy Anderson!! Very well captured indeed, especially the colour being spot on and the freezing of the motion in the water. Super work. Have an awesome weekend, before you head off to Europe. Kindest wishes, Neil.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for your kind comment, Neil, and for your best wishes as I travel on Monday. A great weekend to you as well.

I would have loved to see this had we more time in Atlanta. However, we were literally there for 1 hour before I went to the airport. This type of art is very, very Me.
Ginnie Hart: So glad you like Niki's art, Mad. Maybe you'll get to see her exhibit in another city. I think her work has been in San Diego. In fact, somewhere in CA is where she lived! You wouldn't believe it if you could be up close and personal to it!
