Looks like stucco once hid something that appears like beautiful brick work. Great find! I hope to bring the bikes out this weekend before snow arrives Saturday night.....again.
Ginnie Hart: I heard yesterday on the news that some places in America are still expecting more snow, Steven. I have a sister who lives in Chicago (Rolling Meadows). I suppose snow in April is still possible but...enough already!?!
Jolie série de vélos. Le mur deait être beau avant d'être recouvert de crépi.
Ginnie Hart: We saw a lot of deterioration like this in Italy, Martine. It would take a lot to restore it all!
I agree with Steven, there is some nice brickwork hidden here Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Many layers of beauty being uncovered here, Frank, midst the deterioration.
A wonderful composition & find, Ginnie!
Isn't it amazing what they covered up in the name of "progress"... At the Bacilica de Santa Croce - we saw a Giotto fresco that had been covered up more than once - now they're trying to uncover and restore it!
Ginnie Hart: We saw this kind of deterioration all over Italy, Elizabeth, and wonder what it would take to restore it to its former glory. In spite of or because of the mafia, Italy is almost bankrupt right now. (sigh)

I am intrigued by what they have removed to create that shape Ginnie..
Ginnie Hart: I am, too, Chris!
These bicycles remind me of the gatherings of those we can see at the exit of Cambridge universities in the United Kingdom
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Marie, but probably without the deterioration on the walls in front of them???

This is a wonderful find, Ginnie and I am often surprised what they covered up over time and tried to undo again and restore. Little did they know back then....
Ginnie Hart: It does make you wonder, Astrid, how many layers there are...all around Italy!

The bikes are quite different from those generally seen in the UK. Most seem to have a bell which is missing from many bikes at home - including my own! I love the brickwork.
Ginnie Hart: Hmmm. I never noticed that about your English bikes, Alan. Bells and lights are mandatory here in the Netherlands (except for race bikes). Astrid has a bell on her race bike but because she hates yelling!

Amazing brick under the plaster Ginnie. Perhaps some grand entrance.
Ginnie Hart: It does make you wonder, Chad, doesn't it.

This image could be inspired by Chad's view on our world - I like it very much - and it is a side of poor Italy which is not 'bella'.
Ginnie Hart: We saw a lot of this all over Italy, Philine, and realized why the country is bankrupt. Where is the mafia money when you need it???
It would be interesting to know what the building behind once was. They found an Elizabethan house behind some stucco in Droitwich recently!
Ginnie Hart: It does make you wonder what hides behind all the historical building of the world, Bill!
Il y a un rebelle, il a décidé de rester dans l'autre sens par rapport à  ses copains ;-)
Bonne journée Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: HA! Good eyes, Pascale. Merci.

Yipeeeeeeee!
Ginnie Hart: Yipeeeeeee for the bikes, Yipeeeee for Friday, and Yipeeeee for not sweating the small stuff? All of the above?? smile
oh wonderful!! i love that kind of bike!! i was raised on one... hated it THEN lol coz i wanted a pink banana bike at the time lol love love this pic!
Ginnie Hart: Well, then! And thank you, Elaine. smile
Love the old doorway, gradually being revealed!
Ginnie Hart: Little by little, one step at a time. smile
Prachtig sfeerplaatje van een gewoon maar mooi straathoekje
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Marjolein. Something we all can identify with, right?! smile

ça sent le sud ici
JP
Ginnie Hart: Well, Lucca is not too south in Italy, JP, but it is south for most of us, indeed.

Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Willy. Many of us can totally relate to this scene.

It seems that there were a door or something there - now the bicycles are all confused about which way to go.
Ginnie Hart: When I see a scene like this, Louis, I wonder if the locals see anything!
This is too Dutch!
Add some Vespa to make Italian please. wink
Ginnie Hart: HA! Exactly what needs to happen, LC. Spot on!
The brick archway is wonderful. I hardly notice the bikes.
Ginnie Hart: I know, Mary! Exactly.
I think you should go back in 10 years time and see if more of the wall has fallen off and revealed more of the doorway.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Good idea, Brian. smile

The backdrop gets my attention, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Ray.
i imagine that brick arch was once a painstaking job, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: I'm sure, Ayush!
Beautifully composed against the weathered building.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Ruthie.
It makes you wonder why in the world they would want to cover it up in the first place.
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Beverly!

The old and the new side by side smile
Ginnie Hart: It's all over Europe, Cherry, which is one of the things that keeps me in awe almost every day!
