The World's Busiest
Today Donica and I fly again from Atlanta to Hannover, Germany, staying till February 9th.
When we left Atlanta the last trip, on a very cloudy January 7th, I warily snuck this capture of Atlanta's control tower, hoping to God I wasn't gonna get arrested. You have to be careful in airports these days, you know! Did you know that Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Int'l Airport is the busiest airport in the world! Yup, since 2005. "The Atlanta airport has more nonstop flights and destinations than any airline hub in the world. It serves 243 nonstop destinations, including 72 international destinations in 45 countries." But it does NOT fly us nonstop from Atlanta to Hannover! We always have to transfer from somewhere else, like Paris, as this time. For the next two weeks, I'll be on the European side of the pond!

Well, glad you didn't get arrested! Nice pic!
Ginnie: Me, too, Dani. Thanks.
You poor thing ! It got to be the busiest becuase of Delta Airlines, but there you go. You were indeed lucky not to get at least questioned about taking shots in an airport ! Poor you not to at least get to transfer in London, Paris is a pig for transfers... sorry Zeb but it is.
Ginnie: Yes, Delta is the culprit and now with all the hullabaloo about whether or not Delta will get bought out and moved to another state, there's all kinds of speculation about what will happen! A big mess. And since that's usually what we fly and through whom we have our frequent flyer miles, it remains to be seen what happens to us as well.
Zeb notwithstanding, I must say that while I like the physical Paris airport in many ways, their reputation for taking care of your baggage is atrocious. Even with a 2-hour layover, we do NOT expect to receive our bags with our flight at our final destination. If we do, it's a pleasant surprise. We always have to plan accordingly when we pack! Now a transfer to London! I'll have to talk to Donica about that! She says that until recently we couldn't fly directly to London from Atlanta! Amazing.
Ginnie: You brave woman!! I would not have had the nerve to take such a photo. During the B&W photo class I took last year, I went to one of the malls in Oklahoma City to get some photos of a really cool fountain they have there. Well... I got escorted out by the cops for taking photos of a FOUNTAIN!!! OMG!
Have a wonderful time on your trip! -Mary Beth
Ginnie: Yes, Mary Beth, I think I was a bit TOO brave and a bit foolish! I don't know what got into me! I'll have to pay attention to what happened to you.
Thanks for your trip wishes...and for commenting. I know you're busy these days and have missed your photos!
I'm glad you got back to Europe safe, Ginnie! I always thought that I travel a lot, but you beat me. Also, it might not be true that I travel a lot, because I was not aware taking pictures in an airport was such a big deal! I got several at DIA last year, no problem. Congrats on the catch!
Ginnie: Actually, Samira, I'm not there yet! In fact we haven't even left yet. We leave for the airport in another 5 hours and then Donica's plane leaves first (5:25p Atlanta time--10:25p UK time). My plane doesn't leave until 9p tonight (2a UK time tomorrow), so there's still a lot of waiting to be done!
So where/when/why do YOU travel a lot? Do you go back-n-forth to Argentina?
Gutsy shot! Err... I mean photograph. Are your Germany trips for business or pleasure? This may not be the optimal time for the latter, but have fun over there regardless!
Ginnie: HA. Well put, Martin, because I probably SHOULD have been shot!
I retired 2 years ago so that I could travel with Donica (my domestic partner of 9+ years) who is in Europe over half the year (most of the time in Hannover). She has diabetes and an extremely hectic work schedule. I'm able to calm things down by doing all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. A small price to pay for ME, don't you think?!
nice composition
Ginnie: Thanks, Chantal.
Safe journey both, hope you've packed something warm to wear?
Regards, Chris
Ginnie: That's what Ellie said, Chris. I told her that last night it supposedly got down to 19°F/-7°C here in Atlanta, which is almost unheard of. Right now it's warmer than that in Hannover (45°F/7°C)! But I'm quite sure that will feel as cold because it seems to go straight through to the bones there! A damp cold.
Thanks for your travel wishes.
Great daring capture! And it came out 100%.
If they catch you tell them you are a granny and they should have mercy.
Ginnie: HAHAHAHAHA. Louis, I love you, Man. You just made my day.
If I see it again today (we leave for the airport in 4 hours), I promise NOT to test my luck again.
Very nice capture Ginnie. I think you will have left by the time I am posting this comment, so enjoy your stay in Deutschland and get some awesome photos. I have just got off the phone to an engineer in Germany, not sure where he was, I got him on his cellphone, but he is based in Augsburg, which I think is near Nuremburg, I am not too sure. Kindest regards, Neil.-x-
Ginnie: I happened to see this comment, Neil, just as I was closing down my computer yesterday before the trip. But now I'm here in Hannover after a good trip, only one time zone away from you!
As always, thanks for your comment, Bro.
That's a very precise shot. Quick handheld? wow!
It's come to my attention that the police wherever these days take note of anyone with a camera in public spaces. I think it's part of Homeland Security procedures now. Particularly because terrorism advisories have been focused on vacation and leisure related places and activities. I uses to take cell pics at the mall- much to my daughters dismay because they knew it wasn't allowed. Bad mommy! Guess I'll rethink doing that after hearing of Marybeth's experience. Have a safe trip! You lucky housefrau, you!
Ginnie: Yes, Josie, I actually pulled out the camera very nonchallantly, held it close to my chest while walking up to the window (in the gate area), and snapped the pic. I probably should pay attention to my instincts when I feel wary. But then, as Louis says, I could always pull the granny thing.
Love the placement of this tower - the blue windows (I love blue and brown together) and the five antennas makes this shot for me
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Aksel. Thank you.
the rule of the third or will I say the guideline of the thirds works for you here. Nice shot!
Ginnie: I call it the "rule of thirds," Dotun, so we must have gone to the same school.
interesting shot Ginnie
Ginnie: Thanks, Nicola....I think?
Yes, it's a nice shot, very well composed Ginnie
Safe journey.
Ginnie: As always, Ellie, thank you. Safe journey indeed. Walked into the apartment at 4p Hannover time (3p yours).
aahhhh...always thought JFK was the busiest, but a quick check to the wikipedia sorted out the confusion
Ginnie: HA! We learn something new every day, don't we, Deji!
