The Hauptbahnhof
After flying through the night from Atlanta and a transfer from Paris late this morning (you can never fly straight to Hannover from Atlanta!), I'll be walking through Hannover's hauptbahnhof (train station) from the airport around 3:30p this afternoon. (God willing and the creek don't rise!)
See the Ernst August statue almost dead center (from "under the tail" meet-up fame)? Now you see the whole shootin-kaboodle behind it, constructed from 1876-79. According to Wiki, 718 trains pass through this station daily . Behind me is the City Center and where I pick up the tram to our apartment. Welcome again to Hannover!

Bonjour,
Good travel and shot! Bienvenue en France!
Ginnie: Thanks, Jelb. I was in Paris only long enough to relax a bit before flying on to Germany, where I am now. But thanks for your welcome.
nice travel shot. The building seems to be tilting to the right just a bit.
Ginnie: I knew something wasn't right about this, Dotun, which is why I put on the Green Mood.
Ginnie: That is one busy train station! And now I see why folks use that statue as a meeting place; this photo really gives me an idea of just how big that statue is. But, I still think it is funny that people meet under the tail! It is kinda funny.. you stated that you'd be going through this place around 3:30. It looks like that's about the time on the clocks on the front of the building. -Mary Beth
Ginnie: You are really good, Ms. Mary Beth! I clearly take that same flight and the same train when I come to Hannover. No wonder I got the time right (and this pic is from 2005!). And yes, it IS fun to meet "under the tail." I do it often.
I guess while I see this photo you are in the air, huh? Well, let us know how you arrived, and if you had a good train ride!
About your question yesterday, the answer is yes. I have also been in Canada three times, in Australia and in various places in and around Argenitna (Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay).
Ginnie: Another world traveller, Samira, I see! I sure hope you like it as much as I do.
Yes, I have now arrived, 3 hours ago, in fact (4p Hannover time). Donica stayed in Paris for meetings and gets in closer to 10p. Thanks for your kind thoughts to get me here safely.
nice capture, warm colored building.
Ginnie: Thanks, Chantal.
Good morning Germany!
Ginnie: Yup. And now I'm 6 hours ahead of you. So now it's Good Evening! UGH.
I like how you can take pictures into the future.
... and the creek don't rise??? Nice post
Ginnie: HA! Back to the future is exactly what it feels like on SC a lot of the time, especially when I'm back-n-forth between the time zones!
Had you ever heard that expression before, "God willing and the creek don't rise?" I think it may be a Southern (USA) thing.
The couple closest to the camera makes the shot for me. Seems like they have all the time in the world - and I guess they have
Ginnie: Thanks, Aksel. That couple is actually crossing one of the tram tracks (not mine) so it made sense to take the pic (more for posterity for me than anything else, I think).
That is a remarkably clean looking train station for something constructed in the 19th century. Nice overview shot!
I hope the flight wasn't too tedious!
Ginnie: The flight actually went very well, Martin. I had the good fortune of being able to fly on the same plane with Donica at the last minute. When the lady at the check-in counter saw we were on different flights, 3-1/2 hours apart (because mine was on frequent-flier miles), she waved her magic wand and enabled me to leave earlier. That made making my connection in Paris much more relaxing. And my suitcase made it!
Anyway, Germany as a whole seems to be a very clean country, in our opinion. Donica is in Amsterdam a lot and says that's a very dirty city by comparison. So, good eyes!
Nice overview and I like how the colour of the building comes out.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Julischka.
Very good shot Ginnie - (what else can I say greenie!!)
Ginnie: Awww. You're a sweetheart, Neil. I'm off to bed right now!
I'm really intrigued by all those cables, are they to do with trams?
A lovely sturdy building, the windows must make it really light inside. Umm, is it me, or does it list slightly to the right?
Ginnie: Yes, Ellie, the cables DO go to the trams. Smart eye.
I laughed when I read about the list/tilt. You and Dotun must have gotten together on that one! Here's what I replied to him: "I knew something wasn't right about this, Dotun, which is why I put on the Green Mood. HA. I went back to check out the ruler and see where I tested it and got it perfectly straight--a line to the left of the middle window. Then I tried other lines, like the roofline, etc. and everything I corrected made something else seem terribly tilted. I decided in the end that this wasn't for anything else but to show you the train station. How's that for a cop-out."
Oops! That'll teach me to look at other comments, and their replies, before I write my own! *blush* Sorry Ginnie.
Ginnie: Oh my, Ellie. Please, no need to apologize. You only confirmed what probably was the consensus but only you and Dotun mentioned it. I certainly do not expect everyone to read all the comments/replies. Thanks for being willing to tell it as it is because that's the only way I know how to "fix" something. Have a great day!
Sehr gut Ginnie, Es ist eine Einladung zur Reise
Well, what do you think of my german
Ginnie: I must say that I'm VERY IMPRESSED, Zeb. You're better than I am!!!
