Rite of Passage
This is a short series of images from the Michigan cottage over our July 4th holiday weekend.
What you don't see is 3 swimmers in the water crossing the lake and back. All of us had to do this at one point or another to "belong." (2 generations, 5 families, are represented in the boat) Have a great weekend! [Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

Such a great place. The colors and light are wonderful in this image. Nice!
Ginnie: It was the Magic Hour in the evening, Marcie, not to be resisted! Thanks.
Wonderful great colour. The sun light seem most intense on the guy rowing,or is that because of the white shirt.Have a good weekend Ginnie
Ginnie: It's the Golden Hour in the evening, Vintage, which is what I loved most about this image and why I kept it in color. Thanks.
Nice shot Ginnie, I'm loving the clarity. Seems you had too much fun in Michigan.
Ginnie: I always have "too much fun" in Michigan, Sesan.
Looks like a good family day out Ginnie
Ginnie: Oh yes, Chris. Every day is like that at the Michigan lake! Thanks.
Lovely scene!
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Rémi.
That is a wonderful shot with that golden light. Beautiful shot.
Ginnie: That's why I had to leave it in color, Michael.
So I guess, smwimming is the firt you must learn before breathing in your family ?
Splendid light !
Ginnie: Exactly right, Flo.
Lovely image Ginnie. It must be nice being able to all get together for a holiday.
Ginnie: These holidays are what pull and hold our larger family together, Aussie. We live for these one or two or three times of the year! Thanks.
Geweldige foto, erg mooi licht.
Great picture, love the DOF, it must a great place to be with the whole family. This is a great way to start of the weekend, it rained here so much we almost need a boat to cross the street.... Good tradition, I like that; a family without 'softies' 'whoozies' (??) Have a great weekend.
Ginnie: My mother led us all, Astrid, since she was a great swimmer and diver in her younger days, as you know. I think she's now smiling down on the tribe she left behind...and sees growing by leaps and bounds. Not many softies in our family, to be sure. Too many cousins and aunts and uncles to look up to for inspiration.
I'm liking the series. Would be interesting to see this in B & W
Ginnie: You know me, Stan...I do so much conversion to B&W/sepia. This time I just HAD to leave the Magic Hour in!
Ooooo.....it's beautiful. It must have been wonderful having so many family members together at such a lovely location. It's nice for families to congregate. Love the image.
Ginnie: These family times, twice a year here and once a year at Ruth's farm, are what hold us together, Sherri. Our years can be hung on these special holidays! Thanks.
petite promenade en famille! j'admire ce genre de photo
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, O-P.
What a great shot Ginnie and to be with all your family is so special too.
Hope Donica had a nice Birthday even though she was working. Hope you have a fab weekend
Ginnie: Donica was in Brussels all day yesterday so we will be celebrating tomorrow and next week. Astrid is coming tomorrow to go to the k d lang concert here in AMS. If you could be with us, wouldn't that be a blast! So good to see you back today on SC, posting!
Looks idyllic
Ginnie: I feel that way in the moment, Nigel, but even more so when I go back and look at the images! Thanks.
I like the idea of the rite of passage Ginnie! The rower seems taking care of the swimmers.
The evening lighting is superb!
Ginnie: We all need these passages, Richard. These are the pegs we hang our lives on! Thanks.
Wonderful image, Ginnie. The light is gorgeous. (:o)
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Roz.
A nice family pic (the kids can swim too?) with a wonderful (evening-?)lighting and a glittering lake surface, you can feel the element water indeed- that are real holidays! Fine the red small borderline! Have a great weekend, too, together with Donica!
Ginnie: It just occurred to me that all the wee ones in the boat are picking up quickly how important this rite of passage is, Philine. They may all decide sooner than we think that it's THEIR turn! I'll have to pay attention. Thanks.
Great light and what a fine boat - I guess this will be one of those great memory pictures for the passangers in the boat.
I'm not a fish in the sea so I would struggle to "belong" here....but then again if I stayed here for summer after summer I would then be like a fish in the sea....perhaps
Ginnie: It wouldn't take you long at all, Aksel, to become one of the swimmers!
It's what it's all about Ginnie ..I like that grungy boat. richard
Ginnie: That grungy boat has been around for more than 40 years, Richard. I don't think we'll ever get rid of it! Thanks.
I like, first because it is a very clear photo, with a tuna defocusing to the bottom and second, I like reason why she represents of familiarity!
Ginnie: So glad you like this, José Angel, because it really represents part of our family life! Gracias.
Gorgeous evening light. Love this image, Ginnie - it is very well balanced and has such a peaceful feel to it.
Ingrid
Ginnie: It was very peaceful to me, too, Ingrid. The kids would soon go to bed, so I'm sure this boatride was very calming for them...as well as exciting.
Trying to escape from cats eyes, Ginnie?
Ginnie: Who, ME?????????? Chad, I would never do that to you. NOOIT!
You got the destination cottage in the view, perfect. This is so warm, I can feel the evening hours coming on. Gorgeous.
Ginnie: Don't we just cherish these moments in time, Ruth! Thanks.
I love that boat! There's a warmth to the light that suggests, apart that is from your comments, that this is an extended, and well integrated family. How lovely of you to share this.
Ginnie: It is very extended, Jamoula, and usually very well integrated!
Wonderful image, Ginnie.
Ginnie: Thank you, dear Bridge.
Great weekend to you as well, you are so close... In A'dam...
Ginnie: Yes, indeed, Chantal. Maybe someday we can actually meet each other!
Beautiful! The rustic boat, the glistening water, the sun highlighting the man rowing the boat, making him the center of attention -- all these make it a wonderful photo.
Enjoy your weekend!
Ginnie: Thank you, Mary. It was a serendipitous moment for me.
Knowing the history and bg to this one makes it all the more poignant. Lovely!
Hope you and Donica have a great weekend.
Ginnie: It's fun to know the background, Alex, isn't it.
I like this rowboat shot very much. There is something so peaceful about rowing a boat.
Nice shot.
Ginnie: And it's good exercise, too, Don.
The info is great and the photograph superb, Ginnie. Such a tranquil image. Wonderful
Have a super weekend
Ginnie: Thank you again, kind sir. You and Pat, too, have a great weekend.
Can't help thinking of "On Golden Pond"
Ginnie: Why didn't I think of that, Bill! That is perfect. It would have made a great title.
Wow Ginnie .. great .. family day .. the sunset is well captured!!
Ginnie: Thank you, Klaus. This gets better to me every time I see it, if that makes sense.
definately looks much better than our dodgy weather here in London.
Ginnie: I know what you mean, Atunbi! We've had some rainy weather here in Amsterdam as well. Thanks.
Lovely shot of your family at play Ginnie, I like the red border matching the sleeve of the boys shirt.
Ginnie: You are so observant, Brian.
And this are the kind of things that shape a happy childhood...This is such a beautiful place Ginnie!!
Ginnie: You are so right, Lina, on both counts. Sometimes it's later, while I'm reviewing the pictures, that I realize how important it all is in our family life. Thanks.
Such a lovely warm photo, especially seeing a whole family spending time together. Couldn't be any better.
Ginnie: You are so right, Brian. It doesn't get any better than this!
BTW, I have tried to access your blog the last 2 days and it won't come up by clicking on your link?!
I love the evening light and the way it plays on the water. Superb.
Ginnie: It was an "eternalized moment," Pat. Thank you.
Ahhh...the summer time. Perfect group photo Ginnie.
Ginnie: Thank you, Richa!
superb capture Ginnie and a wonderful piece of family tradition.
Ginnie: These traditions just get better and better, Padraig! Thanks.
nice shot..
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Rian.
A nice family scene.
Ginnie: Merci, Still.
Strong colours from the late (or early) light. That boat has seen some service.
Ginnie: Late light, Louis, before the wee ones went to bed. This was better than a bedtime story!
brilliant crisp shot gin
i think you're the argument for that kiss digital
Ginnie: HA! What a sweet thing to say, DrAW. BTW, did you know that the KISS is the Japanese name for the Canon 400D (European name) and the Canon Digital Xti (American name)?? All 3 the same camera!!
Very peaceful on the water...lots of excitement off-camera!
Ginnie: That's what our family traditions are all about, Ray! Thanks.
What a beautiful photo. The lighting is perfect.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Carsten!
The very pleasant atmosphere.... anyone (all 2 generation and 5 families) in this boat all quiet enjoyed the happiness. The beautiful atmosphere and was full of the love. Regards from Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: You have described this perfectly, Bram.
