Diamond Head
Here's another week of impressions from Hawaii when we were there recently for my daughter's wedding on June 1.
Part of being on Waikiki Beach is feeling the ever-looming Diamond Head presence. Lucky for me, the sky was clear enough to capture this as we left. The strip of high-rises to the left is Waikiki Beach, where we stayed for the week. [Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

A POSTCAAAARDDDD!!!!!!
lol Makes a window seat well worth the pain!!! LOLOL scared of heights soo..
Ginnie: I had the window seat for the first 10 minutes or so, after which my 7-year-old grandson had it the rest of the way back to Atlanta, Yinks.
That's pretty cool. I love taking a photo as I leave too.
Ginnie: I loved that we were sitting on the "right" side of the plane to get the view, Mary! My grandson and I had just climbed that crater that morning, so we were excited to see it from the air. Thanks.
Super shot Ginnie
Ginnie: Thank you, Vintage. BTW, take care of yourself these days!
High "wow" factor here, Ginnie.
The gorgeous, dense, imposing clouds somehow put the human-made high-rise structures into perspective...more like matchsticks aren't they.
Ginnie: The farther away we get from man-made structures, Ray, the more in awe I become of Nature's glory! It's always good to get perspective on such things, I think! Thanks.
Wow! Awesome view!
Ginnie: It was a fun view for me and my grandson, Ted. We had just climbed the crater that morning. Thanks.
Oh my, post card perfect!
Ginnie: You always are so encouraging, John.
Hemels, heavenly picture, this has indeed a very high WOW factor, superb view, lucky to be at the right side of the plane, if somebody would aske me : 'How would heaven be' this comes close, meer dan je weet.
Imagine, you walked to the top with Nicholas.
Ginnie: Hemels. A new word for me, Astrid. I like that! It was definitely a heavenly sight to behold for both Nicholas and me since we had just climbed the crater that morning. It sure gives perspective to see if from above! Ontzettend bedankt, lieve vriend.
Now high-tail it over to Amsterdam, post-haste!
Amazing Ginnie...Saw this photograph, I felt in the aircraft.
Regards from Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: It's such an awesome experience to see things from the air like this, Bram, especially since my grandson and I had just climbed the crater that morning! Thank you.
Dang! Thats awesome!
Ginnie:
Stunning, Ginnie. Better than any postcard I have seen!
My Canadian clan arrived back to Sidney BC yesrterday, after a weeks vacation in Hawaii. Raving about the beauty, the beaches, the tranquiliy, the swims with Dolphins! I really must go there Back to your amazing photograph....Awesome
Ginnie: It doesn't get much better than Hawaii, Paul, so everything they tell you is true.
Wow ... impressive skyline. I did not know that there are so many skyscrapers !
Ginnie: Waikiki Beach is full of them, Carsten! Take your pick!
Wonderful capture, Ginnie. It's beautiful.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Sherri. Just that morning Nicholas and I had climbed the crater to the top. It was so fun to get this perspective of where we had just been!
Wow this is outsanding Ginnie. This is postcard stuff I love it. Also looks a bit like a painting on my laptop thanks for sharing.
Ginnie: You are so welcomer, Scotia. I have such good memories of climbing the crater that morning with my grandson!
I agree totally with Ray's comment- een geweldige foto inderdaad! Wow, that you and your grandson have climbed the crater!
Ginnie: It will be one of my happiest memories ever, Philine. Thank you for your kind support.
Definitely a post card, I like the balance of the crater with the high rises.
Ginnie: It does make a unique sight, Nigel. Thanks.
What a magnificent view Ginnie, and you have done it proud. You are with the gods for sure and they with you, to get this wonderful shot.
Hope you have a wonderful day
Ginnie: You are sych a sweetheart, Tracy. Thank you for your kind words! Astrid and I had a fabulous day, ended by Donica joining us for dinner. Too bad you couldn't have been here to join us, Musketeer.
Oh impressive Ginnie!!
Ginnie: Thank you, kind sir!
Great shot for the through the window Ginnie. Somehow I didn't imagine Waikiki beach to have high rises!
Ingrid
Ginnie: Not only high rises, Ingrid, but all the other commercialization that makes this a favorite get-away spot! Thanks.
Ginnie - I never know how you can top yourself AND THEN YOU DO! Yesterdays parrot was really special and then you come up with this. Incredible shot!
Ginnie: You sure know how to make my day, Judy! Thank you.
I love this photo. I look at it and i can point out all the spots I was able to go to. Especially the top point on the crater ridge. Beautiful shot Ginnie, I wish to go back to Hawaii someday when I'm done with school. haha
Ginnie: It's always fun to see a photo and say "I've been there!" How fun, Brian. I do hope you can go back there some day soon. Thanks.
That looks superb, Ginnie. Have fun in Amsters.
Ginnie: We had a fantastic day yesterday, Chad. Now I'm exhausted. HA! Thanks.
Indeed interesting
Ginnie: Thanks, Zohre. I always like seeing things from up on high.
Wow fantastic image Ginnie
Ginnie: It was so fun, Aussie. I love seeing places I've been from up on high.
Good shot from the plane Ginnie, I like the three distinct bands of interest and colour across the photo.
Ginnie: Thank you, Brian. It sure gave a different perspective to this delightful place on earth!
What a wonderful view! You were lucky to sit next to the window, but I guess Donica lets you most of the time.
Ginnie: HA! That time Donica was not with me, Wim, but my grandson was. He sat by the window the rest of the trip, after I took the picture.
What a wonderful capture of this famous beach.
I've never seen a picture showing Diamond Head's inside terrain. Very interesting shot with just the right break in the clouds.
Ginnie: I had always wondered what it looked like on the inside, Don, so I know what you mean. It was so fun to see it from above after having just been inside it that morning. Thank you.
Stop casually throwing out these amazing images. The luck is holding Ginnie. Love everything, but especially those rolling whitecaps near the shore. Bet they are much larger looking on the beach than from your vantage point.
Ginnie: I liked those whitecaps, too, Karima, and was surprised they looked so big from that far up. But then, that was the side of the crater where I saw the most surfers! Thanks.
What an incredible view! This is such an outstanding shot Ginnie.
Ginnie: It was so fun to see it from this perspective, Jen, after having just climbed it that morning! Thanks.
The layer of clouds itself is tremendous, and with all that beauty underneath, fantastic.
Ginnie: It was so fun, Ruth, to see this like that, from the clouds, after having just climbed it with Nicholas that morning. What a memory! Thanks.
beautiful...
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Sam.
So i like flying ;-)) - Wonderfull capture Ginnie. Hawaii must be a very nice place on earth!
Ginnie: I LOVE flying, Klaus!
Wonderful composition Ginnie. The clouds give such a nice perspective to Waikiki Beach! I like the light shadow play.
Ginnie: Thank you, Richard. I was just glad the clouds weren't covering the crater!
Nice view Granny!
Ginnie: Awwww. Thanks, NaCha.
I always try and get window seats .. this is great Ginnie ... Did you see my view over central London last late Decemeber or so.. cheers richard
Ginnie: No, I did NOT see your view over central London, Richard. I'll have to go look for it. I don't always get window seats but when I do, I'm always interested to see what I can see. It's such a "romantic" perspective to see something familiar from the air! Thanks.
oh wow, what an impressive aerial shot
Ginnie: I love aerial shots, Viktor, when they are of places I've seen while on the ground.
Wow! Ginnie! Very lucky you have been caught this view! It is precious!
Ginnie: I do feel lucky, José Angel, especially that the clouds weren't covering the crater! Thanks.
What a view
Ginnie: It felt that way to me, too, Chris, especially since Nicholas and I had just climbed the crater that morning! Thanks.
La terre est petite , vue d'en haut !
Ginnie: Things always have a different perspective when seen from high above, Ceanothe. I love it. Thanks.
Ginnie, this is fabulous!
Very nice - and yes, this is like a postcard - a nice postcard
My luck is when I sit at the window, it will be on the wing. Yes I fly cattle class.
Great picture and I agree about the WOWiness.
Everything worked for your beautiful shot! The plane was at the right altitude and angle, the clouds lifted just enough, the light is perfect! WOW!
Ginnie: I was one lucky lady, Patrushka. Thanks.
you were lucky that window was clean
Very nice
Ginnie: You are so right, CISI. I am one lucky lady.
WOW ... not much else to say about this one! Just WOW!!!
Ginnie: You sure know how to make my day, Helen.
Wow. This is superb, Ginnie. We weren't as lucky when we flew to Honolulu (as a layover). We came from the other direction, so didn't get this wonderful birds eye view. Thanks for capturing it!!! I will have to claim this as a likey!
I just left comments in another of your posts. Were you able to see the mountain range inland? It's huge from the air too.
Ginnie: No, Kay, as you see, the clouds were not helpful for the mountain view. But I was very glad for the coastal view, as you can guess. Thank you, my dear!
This is incredibly nice Ginnie.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Gabor, for stopping by and commenting!
