I still remember these 37c stamps; that's not too long ago. How could I have missed this? I used to catalog shop for them during those times.

We would inspire them, too, I'm sure, since digital photography is another animal altogether. As you know, it "scares" my son. He thinks he could never learn it after all his dark room days. And I wonder about my brother, Bennett, looking down from heaven. What must HE be thinking! But you're right, it brought us together here on SC and we'll never be the same. Ontzettend bedankt!

Oh Ginnie, 21 photo's in one- a fine, an original idea, and I need some time to look at all the famous photo's - American photography is a great one- nature photography, street photography, straight photography- I read the name Man Ray, perhaps Anselm Adams, my favourite, on the right side - geweldig!- and today I might personally name three photographers whose photoblogs I regularly visit...
(In Münster I saw recently an exhibition of Helmut Newton photo's, afterwards we had a very hot discussion about them, and now our creative writing group has chosen the interesting project to write texts about the theme "be naked vs. be dressed', Newton's nudes may be dressed by nudity!)

Ginnie: Ansel Adam's tribute is in the bottom left-hand corner, Philine. The nice thing is that I can get out the sheet and use my magnifying glass to read the names. You do some of the most interesting things in your daily life, lieve vriend. I declare! You remind me of my mother...a walking encyclopedia!

Now this is some series of stamps: a lot of famous images by great American photographers.

I don't think I could part with these Ginnie - can't you hang on to them?! Some of the best photographers in the world, but not all American (Kertesz, Man Ray) and some notable ommissions - where are Robert Frank, Irving Penn, William Klein? Or do you only make it onto a stamp if you're dead?

Ginnie: On sheets of stamps that pay tribute to one American, yes, Ingrid, they usually have to be dead for at least 10 years. I hadn't thought about that, but you're probably right. Man! You know people I've never even heard of! What the USA does best is clearly producing people like you, Ginnie. There are of course the odd accident, but how did her ever get to be a president? (I'm not talking about the current incumbent)

Oh, yes, I see Anselm Adams landscaspe photo- Dorothea Lange, Alfred Stieglitz...- some of them have German roots, some of them have Jewish roots and must emigrate from Europe...
In Rotterdam I saw the Man Ray's sculpture "L'Enigme d'Isidore Ducasse", a wrapped sewing machine reminding of his roots, e.g. the tailor-job of his poor father- and "Le Violon d’Ingres (1924) is one of the most beautiful erotic photo's I ever have seen!

I regard myself pretty much as an amateur photographer. I still shoot with my camera set on 'auto', but, yes, I do achieve very pleasing results on the microstock photography sites. You can see which of the sites that I do best on....I've placed the logos of the sites that I upload to in order of sales....the top one is the one I achieve the highest sales on, and the bottom one, the lowest.

If anybody told me two years ago that I would achieve sales of over US$4000.00 over the next two years, I would have laughed, and regarded it as a joke!

However, it's worked for me, and I'm happy about that. The main reason? Because when I go out to buy a new lens etc. my wife says nothing.....she knows that it is paid for by my photography sales....not 'our' money.

Ginnie: I will have to check out what you have done that works for you that hasn't worked for me, Phillip. Trust me, I'd love to see it work!

Very nice scan, i never had the best luck scanning things. Nice display tho.

Ginnie: I did nothing except put the sheet on the scanner, press all the right buttons, and then add a quick Auto Contrast in PS...so it must be the quality of the scanner, Brian. It IS a Canon, after all (CanoScsan 4400F).

What a great idea to a stamp collection...a great ribute to all of those that managed to stole a moment from time.

Ginnie: I was so focused on this project for so long, Lina, I had stamp sheets coming out of my ears. But it was a real joy to see them all again! Gracias.

The pane also includes a black-and-white selvage photograph taken in 1888 or 1889 by William Henry Jackson or one of his assistants. The photograph depicts a photographer using a mammoth-plate camera precariously balanced atop Overhanging Rock, some 3,200 feet above Yosemite Valley in California.
