Saint Catherine Herself
As she sat reading outside St. Catherine's Church,
I imagined that SHE was the Saint. (as seen in Brussels, Belgium, last July 2008) Have a great weekend!

Nice capture. slight desaturation at the right places adds to the element of the picture
Ginnie: Thanks, Pravin. The exterior of the church is in bad shape, which the desaturation helped, sad to say.
Pretty place to read in peace.
Ginnie: I don't think she ever saw me, Julian, for which I was thankful.
You should have asked--it could have been a very interesting conversation!
Ginnie: I can hear it now: "Please excuse me, but I was wondering if YOU might be Saint Catherine? And if so, would you mind if I took your picture??"
Good contrast on the wall. Shooting from even lower angle i.e. exactly in line with bench's surface, would have created interesting effect..
Ginnie: You are so right, Suyash! Thanks for the suggestion. I was so afraid she would look up before I shot the picture that all I was thinking was "point and shoot!"
That looks so relaxing. Great tones.
Ginnie: It was a cool day, too, Sherri...perfect for sitting and reading! Thanks.
A stand-out..even in your rich portfolio, Ginnie.
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Ray. Thanks.
What great tones!!
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Christopher.
Wonderful shot - she may be a saint indeed!
Ginnie: Like all of us, Beth??
Lovely capture and post as usual Ginnie. it does remind of one i took @ the train station a while back. I wonder how it would look in B/W. The different viewpoint that Suyash mentioned would have been interesting but she would have definitely caught on
Ginnie: This is a sepia/B&W through the Multiply layer, Bandoras, believe it or not (which lets some of the color come through), but I know what you mean. And yes, all I was thinking was "point and shoot, Ginnie, and then get the heck outta there!"
Wow Ginnie. I really like this one. Even her clothes match the building!
Ginnie: That's what we call accessorized, Martie.
Saints come in all disguises and they appear when we at least expects them.....this MDLL is outstanding, een smakkerd,
I keep looking at it, fabulous picture. Voor jou ook een heel goed weekend gewenst.
Ginnie: Yes, MLMA, maybe we're all saints in all different sizes and shapes and disguises...or, as Philine says, angels. I like that thought. Ontzettend bedankt, MV.
Another marvellous picture Ginnie
Ginnie: Thank you, Albert.
Haha! Nice idea, a little seed of that my be planted in all of us, sorry, I didn't find a St. Virginia (Ginnie), but we human beans prefer to say then "You are an angel!" And there are many angels on earth, in fact!
I like the shape of window and the trees looking 'dennenbomen'! Yes, a feel of relaxing en een fijn weekeind ook jou toegewenst van Philine!
Ginnie: You are so right, Philine. The seed is indeed in all of us and if we really believed it, maybe we'd all start acting like saints and make it a better earth! Ahh, yes, something to strive for!
Beautiful once again Ginnie
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Tony.
I too like the desaturasation of the colors!
Nice capture! (Was she st-C?)
Ginnie: Thanks, Wim, and yes, I'm sure she's THE St. C.
Love that huge wall oval behind her. St Catherine the tourist trying to work out which way up to hold the map.
Ginnie: At least she found a bench for her query, Aussie.
what a pleasant location. great photo!
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Laurentiu, for stopping by and commenting. That means a lot.
Fantastic image Musketeer. Sitting relaxing and taking in the news.
You really are having fun with the processing and creating great effects. Well done mijn vreind
Ginnie: Thank you, lieve Musketeer. It's been fun, to say the least.
You do have a point, as she is said to have been highly learned
Lovely tones to match ur composition.
Ginnie: You got me curious about just who this Saint Catherine is, Fotografa. I'm not sure which one this church is named after but the first link I checked did indeed say she was a "noted scholar in the early 4th century." Thanks for that info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_of_Alexandria
Lovely old church. I do enjoy this solid crumbly stone along with all the features of these places Ginnie.
Ginnie: Those stones are in need of cleaning, Chad, all around the church. But other than that, it's a grand edifice! Thanks.
I don't know about St Catherine, but she does look a little like Germaine Greer! She is certainly perfectly colour coordinated with the surroundings making her look totally at peace (and absorbed) ;o)
Ginnie: HA! Fotografa says she was highly learned, so I did a Google search and found out she was a noted scholar in the early 4th century. For that she deserves to be color-coordinated.
Great looking building Ginnie, and a fine place to relax as well.
Ginnie: The building actually needs to be sand-blasted, Les. It's pretty blackish all around. But other than that, it is indeed a great structure. Thanks.
Could well be, Ginnie! habve agood weekend, too.
Ginnie: I guess there's a bit of saint in all of us, Alan!
Such a peaceful and serene place to read! Fine capture.
Ginnie: I should have joined her there, Richard, and just meditated for awhile. I never thought of it till later!
you've got a great imagination going on there.. i like how isolated she feels.. great shot!
Ginnie: Alone in her own little world, Rian! Sometimes that's what we all need. Thanks.
a nice series of shots, i particularly like the way you've desaturated the lot of them, creates a mood where the texture becomes more important in a similar way to the way black and white forces you to look at texture and pattern.
Ginnie: I agree, David. This is kinda a "modified" B&W/sepia.
She's no saint, she's reading the racing pages
Ginnie: LOL, Bill. I guess it takes one to know one.
All of a sudden people are having a go at candid pictures Ginnie, and I include myself tomorrow and Sunday. I like the composition of this, full marks for not putting the lady in the middle of the frame.
Ginnie: HA! Well, I don't do them often, Brian, to be sure, so for me it was purely coincidental!
And who knows, maybe she is, Ginnie! lol Love the juxtaposition, it's like the church is looking in over her shoulder... keeping watch?
Ginnie: I like that thought, Alex. Maybe so!
Ginnie! A Winner!
Ginnie: Thank you, kind sir!
Very good tone and capture Ginnie
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Vintage.
wonderful job on this.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Heather.
Love the processing. Such a sense of timelessness. Really wonderful!!!
Ginnie: That's what these great churches feel like to me, Marcie: timeless! Thanks.
Great shot Ginnie...and those tones..beautiful.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Ron...and welcome back!
me likey! always like the tone you choose to give to your photos...!
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Lydia. That means a lot.
I love the desaturation in your pictures, it seems to work with EVERY picture you've put on here... who thought that was possible?
Ginnie: I just asked Astrid the other day if she thought people would start getting tired of this style? Besides saying NO, she said I can do whatever I want anyway!
Love the tones. Happy Weekend.
Ginnie: Thanks, Maria. To you, too.
What an amazing statement to make - says a lot about you! And you may be just right...most often we never know who the real saints who walk amongst us are...
Ginnie: Angels unaware, right, Evita?! The world would be a better place if we all saw each other as saints/angels!
The morning paper was very interesting. Great picture and composition.
Ginnie: HA! She was totally absorbed in it, Louis. I never once had to feel like I was trespassing! Thanks.
Hi
I love the way you shot such scenes partuculary the framing and the harmony of colours! have a nice Week end
Ginnie: Merci, Kiji. That means a lot.
Buen encuadre y composicion, me gusta el toque de la mujer leiendo en un banco.
Saludos.
Ginnie: Muchas gracias, Alex!
Awesome. Loving the processing again, your colour palette's gorgeous. She looks like one of my old college art teachers!
Ginnie: HA! But was her name Catherine??!
Patron saint of lounging Ginnie - it's well known
Ginnie: HA! I guess you would know these things, Chris, right?
I love the texture of the wall. The almost sepia tones were a great selection to fit the mood. The subject is the focal point but also not... Great !
Ginnie: Thank you, Ryan.
Wonderful shot Ginnie !
Ginnie: Merci, dear Zeb!
What a relaxing shot, I like the backdrop.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Brian.
the saint herself !!! you have had some mystic halucinations my dear ! ;-)
Ginnie: Hmmmm. I don't think so, Namaki. You are one, too, of course.
I really like the desaturation you have applied here Ginnie. A very peaceful place to sit and read.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Frida. I should have sat down near her and just meditated a bit.
Love the processing. Looks like an amazing place to read a book!
Ginnie: On a clear day you can read forever, Andy.
Love the processing...and everything else
Ginnie: Awwww. Thanks a million, Debola.
Great tone and lovely details. Nice, peaceful image - I can almost hear the birds chirping
Ginnie: I can, too, Thomas. I like that thought. Thanks.
I want someone to take me a picture like this...WOW!WOW!WOW!
Ginnie: I'll just pretend it's you, Lina!
