For Tracy
Tracy/Lurch was with us here in Amsterdam the last few days, as most of you know.
Before she came, Astrid/Picturit and I had made the decision to "make fun" of her fear of heights by each posting something today from a visit we took to Utrecht's Dom tower. It is Holland's tallest church tower at 112.5 metres (368 feet). We were at the top level of the tower, Tracy, out in the open (with no windows) and this is one of the views (of the water tower). This is for you! [Today I'm in Amsterdam.}

This is a likey for me. I love photos where there is lots to see and this one is just SO much of that! Have fun!
Ginnie: Ohhhh. You know how to make my day, Mary. Thank you kindly!!!
I just love that patchwork of rooflines. That is a very unique church tower.
Ginnie: THAT tower, Red Pen, is a water tower. We were standing high up on the church tower. Sorry about the confusion. But yes, you're so right about the rooflines. I love them, too. Thanks.
Wo Ginnie, great shot! you walked all the way/steps up the DOMtower! Great job... I lived in UTRECHT for 12 years, I love to see the roofs thsi way, when I was in my house I coudd see the top of the DOMtower.
Have a great and creative weekend! I hope to see you also back on my blog, you're being welcome, Greetings from JoAnn Photography
Ginnie: Yes, we walked all the way up, JoAnn, and I had sore calf muscles for several days afterwards!
That tower really doesn't look like it belongs there. Sounds like you guys had fun
Ginnie: We had a blast. Wait till you see Tracy tomorrow!
Some similarity with my travel and landscape shots. "Sqeeze as much as possible into it". Some may say too much distraction around no main focal point, but here we are trying to show as much as we can. AS for me I just love it..
Ginnie: So glad you like it, Francis, since it's not often I'll be able to get the shot. It was raining cats and dogs and was VERY windy up there. I'm so glad we didn't blow away.
GINNIE!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR (even if it is old already - it's like driving a car off the lot and losing half the value already but ah well!!) ANOTHER GREAT SHOT ma! Have a great year;D
Ginnie: Welcome back, Yinks! Where have you been!!!! Happy New Year to you too, especially since it's still January!
Wow, Ginnie! This is a fabulous picture! It's so crisp and colorful and full! It's interesting that there are so many houses and almost NO people! I spotted only four(though two might not be people, but lamp posts!) The two I'm sure are humans are a walker with an umbrella on the street at the left side, and someone on the roof slightly right of and above center. This would make a great jigsaw puzzle!
Ginnie: WOW! You have better eyes than I do, Patrushka, to look and see what you did! Good for you. Thanks for the kindest of words, as always.
How playful of you! Really lots to see here, Ginnie, in this jumble of houses. Lovely shot!
Ginnie: It actually does feel playful, Suzanne! Thank you. I really like that word, especially since we really did want to "play" with Tracy a bit.
Geweldige foto, this is some stunning picture Ginnie, now I know for sure you have great eye for detail, mine didn't turn out good....too much wind.....
Ginnie: That wind almost blew us away, Astrid! I'll never forget how stormy it was that moment. The higher we climbed the worst it got! But there was no way I was NOT gonna climb all the way to the top. So glad we got to do it together...and have a little fun with Tracy in mind.
BTW I love the border....great job
Ginnie: You know how to make my day.
I like this view from the top of the Dom in Utrecht: de indrukwekkende oude watertoren, the "patchwork of rooflines".. My first impression was: Great, we now have snow! - because of the various white points and 'plains"... Formerly I always climbed up to towers following Goethes wise advice: When you are visting a town, you first have to go upstairs to a tower in order to have a panorama view ( but after my hip-joint-operation last year this isn't possible, sorry!)
Ginnie: Ohhhhhh. I'm so sorry, Philine. That just means I'll do it for YOU, then, every time! Thank you.
A very nice idea to work together, to take photos at the same time on the same place and then- the results are so different! I love that!
Ginnie: Thank you so much, Philine. You always make my day.
I'm sure Tracy would love this
Ginnie: Thank you so much, Scarlet. It was a great day together, wasn't it!
Wow thats wonderful. Love all those little roof tops. The tower really "towers" over everything.
Ginnie: Yes it does, Aussie.
very nice Ginnie.
I too have a similar shot of another city today. Though taken from a much further distance.
Ginnie: I LOVE your shot today, Deji. After my own heart. Thanks.
the red border really emphasises all the red in the picture and brings it all together
Ginnie: Thanks for noticing and expressing that, Paul. That means a lot.
Hi dear I came back to see once again my beloved town UTRECHT again....
Today I showed a typical photo view of AMSTERDAM, come and see if you recognise this? JoAnn have a good weekend!
Ginnie: I definitely want to see more of "your" town, JoAnn, on a day it's not raining! So I will go back again some day. Thanks.
Great looking tower Ginnie, so much to see from on high. Well framed.
Ginnie: I love views like this from on high, Les, especially when shared with a friend. Thank you kindly!
I am very honoured Ginnie,
I appreciate you giving me the chance to veiw this scene of Utrecht through your eye's..!! I salute you for this fantastic shot and the border is a credit to you... Thank you so much MY FRIEND...
Ginnie: Besides, it was VERY windy and rainy, Tracy! You would have stopped breathing.
A really wonderful picture of a city
Ginnie: Awwww. You are the Man, Zeb.
Very interesting Ginnie. It's not too far from the UK - but totally different
Ginnie: I know, Chris. I love that about Europe. Well, one day I'll go back your way and see it again for myself. Thank you.
I have to agree with Martin, that tower looks so not in the right place, and that makes the pic very interesting, in a good way
Ginnie: Awww. Thanks for putting it that way, Aksel!!
Very nice capture Ginnie. I several times passed through Utrecht by car and never realised it was such a compact city
Ginnie: I need to go back when the sun is shining, Richard, and see more of it than this. I have a feeling I'll be very surprised.
How cool! I think I might make an effort to pop in more often and post again...
Ginnie: I would love to see you post again, ET. You have so many fabulous images! Do think about it and just DO it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting again.
tower looks like its from another time and place altogether. Reading Astrid's comments sounds like you have had great time - don't think I would want to be that high up in a strong wind!
Ginnie: We had a fabulous time, Mike! Wait till you see my collage tomorrow. Tracy was the new gal on the block and did NOT disappoint!!!
Vow this is a beautiful shot, Ginnie. It would make a lovely postcard.
Ginnie: Awww. Thanks for that kind comment, Helen. I'd love to make postcards of my photos and sell them!
Postcard perfect!
Ginnie: As I told Helen, Jewlya, I'd love to make postcards of my photos and sell them!
wow! this is great. very nice picture.
Ginnie: Thank you very kindly, Gishan!
I don't know about Tracy...I'm not sure I'd be too keen either! Great view though!
Ginnie: HA! Even Donica is afraid of heights, Bill, so I guess it happens to the best of them!
Fantastic, Ginnie. I love this sort of rooftop view, and this one is a cracker! So much to see with such crisp detail, and I love the colour. (:o)
Ginnie: You're a real sweetheart, Roz. I actually like this kind of shot, too, probably because I LOVE heights. The higher the better.
Wonderful shot and very funny comment to go with it.
Ginnie: Gotta have some fun with the comments, Michael!
Quite a view!
And, is this a typically Dutch town, or could it be in another country?
Ginnie: Hmmm. I guess you need to tell me, Wim, if this is typical Dutch? It certainly does NOT look like America!!!
Some view Ginnie
Ginnie: Yes, Chris, it is/was. Thanks.
Ginnie, this looks like a POSTCARD!
Ginnie: You are very kind to say so, Kathryn. Thank you!
Glad you had a fabulous time with girls, dear. You keep going with your diplomatic mission of bringing the citizens of the Shutterland together. I hope Astrid hugged and cheek-kissed you all from me, as she has been instructed.
Z PS. I see you continue to work for the Dutch Department of Tourism, producing posters.
Ginnie: Oh yes, Viktor. There were plenty of kisses all around...and when Donica came home, all over again!
And thank you, dear Man, for your kindest of encouragements!
Almost a Lilliput sight...!
Awesome shot!
Ginnie: I like that thought, Lina. And I agree!
Do you know why all of a sudden (the last few weeks) your link does NOT take us to your site??? I'd love for that to be fixed, not so much for ME but for any friends here who might want to click on you.
Colourful collection of roofs - it looks like a toy town! Glad to hear you're having so much fun.
Ingrid
Ginnie: It DOES look like a toy town, Ingrid. I agree! I want to go back and see it again when it's not raining. And yes, we did have fun, there and in Amsterdam!
Love the colours who would think roofs and building could make such a colourful photo
Ginnie: That is so true, Vintage. Thank you.
Excellent view - and apparently the IS worked for you here.
Ginnie: The IS almost always comes through, Louis. I love it! Thanks.
A WOW -one! The tower looks like a guard or boss over the small houses.
Ginnie: Yes, it does, Erik. Thank you!
