photoblog image It's Monday

It's Monday

Everything is not as it seems, especially when the dome is a trompe-l'oeil painting.

(at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Victoria, Malta, dedicated in 1716)

Quelles jolies décorations !
Ginnie Hart: It's hard to believe it's only a painting and not a real dome, Martine.
Love the trompe-l'oeil.
Ginnie Hart: I do, too, Michael. Thank you. "You can fool some of the people some of the time...."
Beautifully done, Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Elizabeth.

'Don't believe everything you see and hear'... A fabulous presentation of optical illusion. It is a fabulous Cathedral to visit.
Ginnie Hart: It's a lesson we're still having to learn even today! Thank you, Astrid.

This is very clever stuff Ginnie, I wouldn't have known it wasn't real
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Chris. I think there's a good lesson here for us all....

it's Monday ladies, don't bam your head against that ceiling smile
Ginnie Hart: HA! THAT would be something, Elaine. smile
I like your processing Ginnie. Beautiful cathedral.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Marie. It really is.
You mean there is no real dome - cool!
Ginnie Hart: Correct, Mary. If you see the cathedral from the outside, there is no dome either. smile
Apart from being beautiful to look at it is also a very clever way to paint and give that 3D feeling to the viewer, one often comes across this sort of work in our stately homes.
Ginnie Hart: It's quite awesome to me, Brian, not having been used to it in my life!
Original si c'est en trompe l'oeil , belle idée et surtout belle photo !
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Claudine, it is indeed trompe l'oeil. When you see the outside of the cathedral, there is no dome! Thanks.
joli traitement!! amitiés
Ginnie Hart: Merci, JP.
Ha ha.. G!
This is so true, only time will tell.
But hey seeing is believing.
Remember there's a lie in "believe". wink

I can BS almost as good as Mr T! Ha... Vote me next term x
Ginnie Hart: I would GLADLY vote you next term, LC! But, indeed, let's see. (sigh)
Very very cool.
Ginnie Hart: Kinda like magic, Michael, right?! smile
and that makes it all the more interesting, in my opinion, Ginnie. i saw something similar in Manila for the first time and was astounded.
Ginnie Hart: It really does blow the mind when you see it in real life, Ayush. Amazing.
wow...just gorgeous!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Robin. When you see it in real life you just stare!
