It's King's Day in Dutchland

Beginning with THANK YOU (in any language) goes a long way!

(it was Saturday in Gorinchen, NL, when the organ grinders came for the entire Birthday weekend)

When Astrid put in a coin, the organ grinder handed the reins over to her.

She was like a little girl on Christmas day.

Ginnie Hart: Sometimes is the simplest of pleasures that make our world go 'round, Elaine! I had as much fun watching her as she did playing.
What a beautiful organ, Ginnie! I love Astrid's smile the entire time! smile Happy King's Day!
Ginnie Hart: Astrid's smile the entire time says it all, Elizabeth! Thank you.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Peter. Astrid is sitting across from me right now and I just told her what you wrote. smile

Lovely carts, Ginnie.

You might want to let Astrid know...gently...that that monkey does not seem to be a real one...
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Ray. Astrid says it's not deemed politically correct to have a live monkey anymore! (sigh)
excellent!! amitiés
Ginnie Hart: Merci, JP.

Oh, 'Danke' is German! A wonderful photo of this Drehorgel (oh, wonderful childhood memories when the organ grinders came into the backyards ...) and a beautiful video! I joined once an organ grinders service in the Berlin Dome. Genieten jullie van de heerlijke Koningdag in Gorcum!
Ginnie Hart: We found out from the gentleman, Philine, that there were 6 grinders who came from Germany to celebrate our King's Day weekend with us. And HE was the one who offered the organ to Astrid for playing. We'll never forget it! Bedankt.

It was great to see and hear so many hand-grinded-organs in our City. It was a big surprise to me that I was able 'to grind' took me a short time to know 'the speed'.... Nothing wrong with being a kid again smile
I admired the beauty of some of the organs, the oldest was 200 year old. Today they will be here again, a sunny day to celebrate King's-day.
Great video and picture.
Ginnie Hart: I think I had the same smile on my face the entire walk-about as we went from one organ grinder to another. We were so fortunate to get them all in before it started to rain! What a day. What a weekend of celebration...and the best part is coming soon, when we get to watch the King and Queen visit nearby Dortrecht. YAY.

Nice composition. This organ is a collector.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Marie. We have several of them in town this weekend, some of which are as old as 200 years. Kinda like a traveling museum! smile
I love the video. Lady P is having a ball!
Ginnie Hart: She made my day, Bill! smile
You have to visit the Musical Museum in London one day!

Ginnie Hart: Since 1963! That was the year I graduated from high school, LC. smile
What a monkey that Astrid is! I loved the video.
Ginnie Hart: She beats them all, Mary, doesn't she! grin

Hah, she definitely looks like the little girl you described smile
Genietse op deze koningsdag - de eerste geloof ik? Vorige jaar noch koninginnedag.
Ginnie Hart: Actually, Louis, this is the 2nd Koningsdag...but the first without Beatrix to be seen. We were glued to the TV for 3 hours, watching the festivities in nearby Dortrecht. I love the Royal family here. smile And this was the first time the 3 princesses were also in the spotlight, almost the entire time (with a break of about an hour).

Let's hope that the pot get well filled then. I can't wait until I can get to see the apprentice organ grinder in action smile
Ginnie Hart: You'll have fun watching how happy Astrid was, Alan. You couldn't wipe the smile off her face. smile
That video is priceless! Happy King's Day!
Ginnie Hart: I fell in love with "her" all over again, Robin! smile Thanks.
I love the video, danke Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: It was a fun outing, Roland. Thank you. smile
Danke very much, danke very much, that's the nicest thing that...as the musical song goes. Are you sure that that is not where the sound comes out of Ginnie?
Ginnie Hart: Sometimes I'm not sure of anything, Chad! But I sure am happy! grin
oh yes, and i am told the entire nation is out in orange, and a charming video.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, indeed, Ayush. King's Day is ALWAYS the day of ORANGE. I'm in my orange shirt as we speak. smile Thanks.
I'm glad Astrid got to fulfill a dream... lovely details...
Ginnie Hart: I don't know if it was ever a dream of Astrid's but she sure knew how to play the part when offered the opportunity. Thanks, Larry.

What an experience! I love these old machines
Ginnie Hart: It would be fun to own one, Anne, and take it out to different places for people to see/hear. smile
Got to be one of your most entertaining posts ever Ginnie, Astrid really was enjoying herself wasn't she, I hope she didn't want to take it to pieces to see how it works smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Brian. That's sweet. I don't think anything/one could have wiped the smile off Astrid's face! smile
Hahahaha... I love the video!! Danke for sharing it with us! : )
Ginnie Hart: It's fun, Jacquelyn, isn't it! Thank you and you're welcome.
Astrid looks like she is having the time of her life.

I had not heard of King's Day before. I love the way Astrid is smiling in the video clip smile
Ginnie Hart: It used to be Queen's Day, Cherry, but once Queen Beatrix abdicated her throne to her son, Willem-Alexander, 2 years ago, it's been King's Day ever since. smile

OOH! Must be very festive there! Do you have any other activities planned for the week??
Ginnie Hart: It was a whole weekend of festivities, Emily, but the only part we saw was the organ grinders on Saturday. Monday was the 3-hour Royal Family shebang in nearby Dordrecht. You can see a video synopsis of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OapANLySabs.
Great image with the POV. Astrid really looks like she is enjoying herself, sweet video. thanks for sharing so I can put sound to the picture.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Hollie. This still brings a smile to my face, just remembering how much fun we had that day. smile
