photoblog image It's Monday

It's Monday

Hoping we all get off to a great start!

(at the start of the 19th Panne Beach Endurance bike race on Sunday, November 30, Belgium)

This is especially for you, Alan!

We just "happened" upon this race at the exact time we arrived in De Panne on our all-day tram ride,

traveling the 42 miles south to north between France and Holland on the Belgium coastline.

It's the longest tram line in the world, with 70 stops.

A rare Bike Pushing race...nicely documented, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Ray. It was our biggest surprise of that exciting day!

things healthy people do lol nice collage smile
Ginnie Hart: Some are healthier than others, Elaine, and can challenge themselves to the limit like this. It was very fun to watch. Astrid very quickly figured out that the higher the gear (faster wheel rotation), the easier they could get through the rough sand. Thanks.
Great collage, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Frank. It was hard to pick just one image for today. smile
Great collage, Ginnie! I enjoyed your Vimeo!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you and thsnk you, Elizabeth! It was great fun to watch.
Many actions taking place in this great collage Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: And these were just the mishaps, Richard. Others were smooth sailing, as you can see in the video. smile Thanks.

Add a few sheep to the proceedings and end with a cream tea, then Mr Rolfe would be in a form of personal heaven here
Ginnie Hart: I pictured Alan there the entire time and totally forgot about the sheep, Chris. But you're right, he would have been in heaven here that day.

Oh, de kusttram is one of the destinations of desire- perhaps next year? A wonderful collage and video - and surely a delight for Alan! Lol at Chris' comment!
Ginnie Hart: You will love this coast tram, Philine, if ever you get to ride it. By doing the entire route up and down (starting from Ostende) we were able to easily see both sides of the track (except for the fog). It was a delightful day. Seeing this bike ride at the De Panne stop was the unexpected highlight of the day. And if you do it, we both recommend eating lunch/supper on the Blankenberge Pier!

A great video and a great event to watch. I know how hard it is to cycle on the beach....and these men and women mean business, I bet a lot of them work in an office and sit all day!!.
Beautiful collage showing how 'easy' it was.....
We were lucky to be there at the right time.
Ginnie Hart: I'll never this day, MLMA. The bike race was the main highlight and gave us an unexpected Gift. So glad we could share it together. smile
What with Lady P's riding into the wind and you showing cycling on a beach I am wondering what other mad forms of bike riding there might be!
Ginnie Hart: Well, there's Alan, of course, riding up the mountains with mud flying everywhere. Don't forget that! grin

Attractive "muddy" assembly... I would not like to be instead of these crazy about bike
Ginnie Hart: The sand was like a quagmire, Marie, before hitting the smoother part of the beach. It was quite something to see.
silly buggers
Ginnie Hart: I suppose so, Richard? But I have a feeling it didn't feel that way in the moment. HA!

Un chouette reportage sportif
JP
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
From these pictures, we can conclude that pushing is quicker than riding on the sand! Ha!
Ginnie Hart: Well, maybe, LC. Astrid figured out that if you used high gears (faster rotation), you could get through without having to get off your bike. So, there you have it. smile

A lovely action montage. Seems to me that only a few are riding, while the rest are pushing.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Louis. Astrid figured out that if you used high gears (faster rotation), you could get through without having to get off your bike. Too bad they all didn't know that, but, then, it wouldn't have been as much fun to see. smile

That was my hope, too, but alas I had a puncture on my bike of choice. I had to get the otehr one out and the tyres on that are really soft which I diodn't really notice at first. No pump on the spare bike, though! So, it was almost as hard as riding through the sand.
Ginnie Hart: I have a feeling you could write a book about your own experiences, Alan, with corresponding images, of course. smile

That sounds like a tough event Ginnie, I think Alan should take part.
Ginnie Hart: Maybe Alan can sign up for the 20th event, Chad. Look at how close that part of Belgium is to England. Just a good jump over and he'd be ready to go. smile
Some of them go like the wind over the sand while others have to be pushed. Good way to show us, with a collage and video.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Mary. Astrid figured out that if you used high gears (faster rotation), you could get through without having to get off your bike. Too bad they all didn't know that, but, then, it wouldn't have been as much fun to see. smile
I read all about this on your In Soul and then followed up on the trams, oh how I would like to ride on that, perhaps it should go on my bucket list (as they say).
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for visiting my In Soul post, Brian, because that's where you get the fuller effect of the day. The tram ride was really a highlight, which I do recommend. That part of Belgium is very close to England, as you certainly know. Astrid told me LOTS of English visitors go to Belgium every year via the ferry!
I don't think I'd even bother to start!
Ginnie Hart: Well, it did appear daunting at the beginning, Tom. If you could get through that part, I think the rest would be "smooth sailing" in comparison? smile

A great series of pictures and video, you have certainly caught all the action.
Ginnie Hart: Thnaks, Anne. It was pure serendipity for us both to happen upon this that day. smile

Not easy on BMX, here a lot of energy !! nice set
Ginnie Hart: Lots of energy flying all around that day, Pat. Thanks.
excellent!! amitiés
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, JP!
I have had entire weeks like this...
Ginnie Hart: HA! Well, then. And you got right back up on your bike, I know, Larry!
That would be a real hard workout in the sand. Nice shots and I love the video.
Ginnie Hart: I think this was the hardest part of the entire race, Michael. Thanks.
That is hard to do riding in soft sand Ginnie... there were as many walking then the ones who kept riding... loved the video... thanks....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: Astrid figured out what had to happen to make it smoother sailing: turn the gears up for faster wheel rotation! It seemed to work.
Gosh Ginnie there's hundreds of them. You captured some tricky moments there
Ginnie Hart: There were around 1000 participants, Janet, and these are just some of them, of course. What fun to see. Thank you.
The mishaps made for some great images here...
Ginnie Hart: It's kinda like someone's junk is someone else's treasure??!! smile
The video was fascinating! Thanks for adding it - perfect for a "monday start!"
Ginnie Hart: You're such a sweetheart for catching up like this...something I'd never expect you to do. But thanks!
