photoblog image Pentecost Monday

Pentecost Monday

Today is Pentecost/Whit Monday, a federal holiday celebrated in the Netherlands

following yesterday's Pentecost Sunday

This is a mural painting in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Münster, Germany.

We know the daughter of the man who painted it, which you can see here.

This is a beautiful painting, Ginnie! With a sensitive presentation.
Ginnie Hart: We know the daughter of the man who painted this, Elizabeth, so it means even more to us. You can see more about him here (in fact, I think I'll add the link to my above text):

Oh, Ginnie, I thought of this mural painting for Pentecost on SC, too - you depictured a wonderful detail of this impressive painting in a beautiful way - and so appropriate for this day! Ontzettend bedankt, Ginnie, en een fijne dag jullie beiden toegewenst!
Ginnie Hart: I thought of you, too, Philine, in remembrance of that wonderful day with Mechtild. Bedankt for the memory.

We used to have a day off to mark Whit Monday but then it got changed to the "Late Spring Bank Holiday"; not the same at all! I love the smile on the bird;s face and his little feet smile
Ginnie Hart: It amazes me that I grew up in a preacher's home, Alan, and never celebrated this holiday!
Beautiful mural painting. Nicely framed
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Marie.
I enjoyed the link Ginnie. "M" is a lovely person
Ginnie Hart: I thought you'd remember her, Bill. Thanks.
i don't know ,kiss
Ginnie Hart: Not many do, Keyouest.

A nice sunny day and thanks for the fine image!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, HF.
Amazing that it is a federal holiday. A lovely simple painting.
Ginnie Hart: I know, Mary. Even coming from a preacher's home, we never celebrated this holiday.
A blessing for the start of the week - that is good, Ginnie! smile
Ginnie Hart: I like that, Martin. Thanks for the thought.
It is a very nice painting,Ginnie, it could be a badge for something.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Frank. Indeed!
Beautiful Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Ronky.

What a great mural
Ginnie Hart: I thought so, too, Anne. Thank you.
Not one we celebrate in the UK!
Ginnie Hart: Nor in America, Tom.
I'm not very religious I think, but this painting is very nice, I like it. smile
Ginnie Hart: I'm no longer religious, Diana, in the sense that I no longer attend church. But it's the spiritual part of me that is "grabbed" when I see images like this. Thank you for your comment. I hope to see more of you on SC.
I have read there are lots of traditions associated with this holiday. So interesting to read about the various ones in different countries!
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Robin, you're right. Interestingly, in my preacher's home, this was NOT one of the holiday we observed. I think it must be more Roman Catholic than Protestant...which is very strange to me!
