photoblog image Boat Friday

Boat Friday

Here are 8 of Kinderdijk's 19 windmills on a cold morning in the Netherlands (March 17 of our river cruise).

They remind me of the 8 of us kids growing up in my family of origin.  :)

It's actualluy starting to warm up a bit!

Have a great weekend.

Funny what things trigger childhood memories, isn't it, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, indeed, Ray. Yes, indeed! smile
What a strange association. But that is a lot of windmills.
Ginnie Hart: No other place in the world has so many windmills in one spot, Michael. It's a magical place. smile

This 'horizon' never bores me. Each time it fascinates me. Great light. A wonderful way to associate these landmarks with your siblings.
Ginnie Hart: This may be the most holy, magical place in the world for me, MLMA! No wonder I'd like my ashes sprinkled there! smile
Lovely image of the 8 kids! The lighting is quite magical!
Ginnie Hart: This place is like a fairyland for me, Elizabeth...which may explain why Astrid and I both plan for our ashes to be sprinkled there one day! smile
windmills punctuating the landscape... niiiice!
Ginnie Hart: It doesn't get better than that for me, Ayush. smile Thanks.
Incredible beautiful photo. Windmills are so gorgeous.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Sartenada. Windmills are so soulful for me!

This wide angle shows it off so well, Ginnie - your Canals are so W-I-D-E
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Lisl. We do have some wide canals like this but surely the narrower ones out-number them? HA!

Ginnie Hart: This is actually sunrise, Marie, but the same difference, of course. I love the Dutch windmills as though they were part of me!

V E R Y Dutch Ginnie!

I can't imagine the dynamics of growing up one of eight..
Ginnie Hart: As your little sis would say, Chris, more Dutch you cannot get.

And yes, being one of 8 kids is all I know...can't imagine otherwise!

That's probably more windmills than we have in the UK smile They look beautiful in the early light of a late winter's day.
Ginnie Hart: And all in one UNESCO spot, Alan! smile You'd love taking a walk there!

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Anne. It's very soulful to me.
I was reading words in your sky wondering how the heck that was possible. Realized it is probably a filter. You had me going for a few minutes. Really lovely atmospheric shot.

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Aussie.
You come from a big family, G!
Guess Christmas must be a really busy time for you all. ;o)
Ginnie Hart: In our day, LC, we'd have a HUGE Christmas gathering and would take turns opening one gift at a time. smile
I guess it is hard to get away from boats around there.

That is a a wonderful composition. I like the way the water dominates.
Ginnie Hart: Water and boats are so much part and parcel of Dutch life, Michael. Bicycles, too, of course. smile

So often I see panoramic shaped sots that really shouldn't be. But this one works amazingly well.

The encroaching darkness, glow on the horizon and silhouetted windmills (don't we just love them) create a magnificent and atmospheric shot.
Ginnie Hart: You're most kind, George, and I thank you!
