Boat Friday: Ready to Cruise

Tomorrow Astrid and I begin a 15-day river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest.

Needless to say, it'll be a trip of a lifetime, with 4 extra days in Budapest!

This will be our stop on Monday, in Cologne, Germany...on the Rhine River!

(image taken across the river in December, 2012)

(And, no, that is not our ship; THIS is ours.)

See you when we get back the first week in April.

Lovely Boat Friday Ginnie! Enjoy your holiday and take many snaps for us. smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Frances, and you know I will. smile
Oh my...I could roam around on that Viking website for hours! Great capture. You two enjoy and dance until your feet hurt!
Ginnie Hart: Now you know why I say it'll be a trip of a lifetime, Robin. And Astrid has already turned her corner on the sinus infection. One more day in bed and lazing around home will do the trick, I'm sure. Thank you.
This is such a great Boat Friday spectacle Ginnie!!!...
Good choice of ships... the Viking Idun look much nicer and more luxurious than the mail boat that you were on last year...
i am positive that Astrid an you will have a wonderful cruise...
stay safe and keep one hand for the boat and the other for everything else....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Peter. This will seem like heaven compared to the post boat in Norway...but that one, too, was in cold weather with some snow, so we know we can do it! Thanks for your good wishes!

I have happy memories of this place Ginnie.

You are going to have the TIME OF YOUR LIVES!
Ginnie Hart: I'm so glad you already know what we're gonna see, Chris. Your little sister is getting better and better as we speak. I think by the end of today she'll be almost as good as new. We do plan to have the time of our lives!

This is a wonderful appetizer for what we are going to see. One more night...we waited more than one and a half year.
I am glad that I am fit in time to enjoy it at the utmost.
Great picture, cities do look different from a river.
Ginnie Hart: Many friends have been praying for you to get well in time for this trip, MLMA! I can already see that you're almost 100% again. THANK YOU for sharing this trip of a lifetime with me. We'll never forget it! The funny thing is that the first 2 days will be familiar territory for us. After that, we'll be short of eyes.

Yes, the stunning silhouette of Cologne with three of the many churches -Holy Cologne! And the three wise men may accompany you - it might be a wonderful cruise, and your wish is likely to be fullfilled! A blissfully happy time for you both!
Ginnie Hart: I like that, Philine--the three wise men. I'll remember that when we are there on Monday. We'll be in your incredible Germany for a full week.

Ginnie Hart: It's a great city architecturally, Helys, as you can see. Thanks.
Wonderful tones here Ginnie. Enjoy the cruise with Astrid!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Richard, and we plan to!
As I said to Lady P. Have a wonderful time. I am looking forward to all the pictures!!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Bill. We're so excited!
Blimey Ginnie and Astrid your boat looks like a space caft ... enjoy
Ginnie Hart: State of the art, Richard, they say, and built last year. Not too big and not too small. smile Thanks.
Have a good holiday Ladies, keep an eye open for Frank he has gone missing in Tibet.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Mick, and we think we'll just leave Frank alone for a few more days. I think he'll enjoy the peace and quiet. grin

That sounds very exciting Ginnie. What a journey, what fun you will have. I am sure that the photographs will last a whole year. All the very best to you both and have a great time.
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Chad. You know we will be up to our ears in images, but we won't complain. This really will be the trip of a lifetime. We've waited for it 18 months and can hardly believe it starts tomorrw.
Have a really wonderful time, Ginnie. I hope Astrid is better and better each day. My guess is that eventually she will be asking the captain to drive the boat.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you so much, Mary. And LOL about Astrid driving the boat. I'm at least hoping the captain will let us take pictures of his steering cage. grin

Your viking longship is a interesting looking vessel, plenty of viewing opportunity and free internet for a day by day reportsmile Have a great trip.
Ginnie Hart: We are thrilled with the ship, John, and expect a lovely time! Internet will often be spotty but while in port, we hope to make connection!
Looks like a fantastic location to start from Ginne, have a great trip!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Fred. We are over-the-moon with excitement.

Now I'm not one for cruising on the high seas (unlike my elder brother) but this is definitely more me; your trip sounds fabulous and your ship looks good, too. I'm sure you'll both have a brilliant time.
Ginnie Hart: I've done the high seas, Alan, and loved those trips, but this is more my size, for sure. We're definitely on the same page. Thanks.

Are you ready?
Are you ready?
'Cos here they come!
Are you ready?
Are you ready?
They'll drink some rum

Be nice in cities that I know, when you pass through. I still know some people there.
Ginnie Hart: HA! We'll try not to embarrass you, Louis. grin
What a wonderful trip, you're going to have, Ginnie - I do hope you both have plenty of fun! And all those boats lined up for future Fridays grin With sights like this along the way, it will be camera heaven smile
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Martin. I didn't think about that but PLENTY of boats for the Fridays of many years to come. HA!
The skyline is so intriguing with all those tall spires, I almost missed seeing the boat, and on Boat Friday, too.

Watching the Viking River Cruise advertisement that was shown before the beginning of each Downton Abbey episode made me long for such a trip, Ginnie. Knowing you and Astrid will be on one of them is almost as good as taking it myself...well, almost.

Have a fabulous voyage!
Ginnie Hart: You're the first person who has mentioned that, Beverly, and yet I know of many who have watched Downton Abbey. Hmmm. Well, you'll definitely see it in time through my/our eyes. We are so excited! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Your trip starts with a lovely pi and continues on an incredible looking vessel.

I wish you both a great weekend/week/holiday..
Ginnie Hart: We are so ready for this trip of a lifetime, George, while we are still healthy. Thanks for your wishes!
Have a fine, motion-sickness-free trip!
Ginnie Hart: That's a good one, Larry. As long as we're not out at sea, I think we'll do just fine. smile Thanks.
Enjoy your trip - there'll be great photo opportunities along the way and masses more in Budapest!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Tom, and we are so ready. Everyone has told us we will LOVE Budapest.
Fabulous shot Ginnie. Have a wonderful time
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Janet. We're so ready to rock-n-roll! smile
Take me with you please!! ;o)
You guys have a great time.

You know Europe is slightly bigger than the States, yet there are so many different languages spoken there.

Isn't it great if they all speak English? ;o)
Bet you feel like home away from home whenever you come to England. He he...
Ginnie Hart: I wish I could take y'all with us, LC! And yes, we'll be covering a LOT of distance. I still can't believe it. I'll have to tally how many miles/kms it'll be. And another yes, I'm so glad almost everyone will be speaking English!

Wow ... have fun. Wishing you all the very best travelling even if you don't get to read this until you return smile
Ginnie Hart: I've read this a couple of hours before we leave the house for our train to Amsterdam, so I did catch you right at the wire, Geoff. THANK YOU.
Very nice shot and what absolutely wonderful buildings.
Ginnie Hart: If this is any indication of the rest of the trip, Michael, we really will believe we've died and gone to heaven! smile
You'll have gone by the time your read this, my Broadband was down on Friday, so I will say, I hope you've both had a lovely time, and safe travels.
Ginnie Hart: We went and we returned, Brian, and had a fabulous time. I can hardly wait to show you glimpses of our river cruise! In the meantime, thanks.

This is a great photo and I am loving the warm colours, Ginnie. Ohh I am so jealous ... I hope you gys have an amazing time and take lots more photos to share with us. smile
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Emily. We're now back in the saddle, eager to start showing some of the fabulous sights we saw. It really was a trip of a lifetime for us both!
those 2 towers with the scaffolding make it an easily recognizable spot. I am told the dom of koln has a scaffolding somewhere on its superstructure almost all through the year!
Ginnie Hart: Interesting point about the scaffolding, Ayush. Too bad it can't be simply done and put away! (sigh)
A fine view of the Dom! There is a wonderful museum at the foor of it: the "Ludwig".
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Wim. I have a feeling we've missed a lot from that city. Guess we'll just have to go back. smile
