A New Pope: Pope Francis

It all happened so quickly...faster than I expected!

Even though I'm not Roman Catholic, I felt the suspense.

Pulled from my 2007 visit to St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Italy.

The news received all due attention in Bangkok, Ginnie...
Ginnie Hart: I think the entire world was on the edge of its chair, Ray! In all my years I don't remember anything like it.
Awesome b&w and fabulous detail!
Ginnie Hart: Thnak you kindly, dear Robin.
Awe!!... you saved this shot of the the Vatican for just this moment... great image and greater timing Ginnie....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: And on a Thursday when I don't normally post! HA! It did seem appropriate, Peter, so I went rummaging until I found it on my Iomega chunky external hard drive. It led to my moving everything from there to my 2TB WD My Passport hard drive. Mission accomplished. smile
BTW my full name is Peter John Francis... so now my namesake's are two popes and an apostle Ginniegrin....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: There aren't many of us who can claim anything near this exciting, Peter. Thanks for sharing.
indeed, the news spread through out our offices today!
Ginnie Hart: It was on our CNN Tnt'l news all day long, Dennis. It was hard to miss the anticipation.
That is very nicely done. You had great sidelight that day.
Ginnie Hart: This wasn't the year I went inside the basilica, Michael, but I did have a good day for shots outside...and you know me and clocks on the outside of buildings! This one seemed most appropriate for this day and time. Thanks.
love the stark contrast. gives a very neat and clean atmosphere
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Ayush.

I watched it live on TV too Ginnie: history in the making. Your picture here is a treat
Ginnie Hart: The news has been on CNN Int'l for several days now, Chris, so it was hard to miss. It still shocks me how quickly the decision was made! Thanks.

Absolute fabulous picture. Love the shadows. Great choice of B&W.
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, MLMA. Maybe one day we will see it and Rome together.
Most people who are 76 can't even get a job let alone be promoted grin
Ginnie Hart: Isn't that the truth, Bill!!! He actually looks very young for 76, to be honest.

a fine tribute to this much-promising event! It is a wonderfully composed b&w- photo! Franciscus is one of my favourite saints, an oecumenical saint I would say, and I visited Assisi, too. The name the new pope has chosen might be filled with many hopes from all over the world!
Ginnie Hart: Time will tell, Philine, what this all means. Some things may be good, others not so...but then I guess we can't have hope for everything???

Dans ma région pas de neige ! Je te souhaite une agréable journée
JP
Ginnie Hart: Snow here but it won't stay for long, I'm sure. Merci, JP.
Magnifique BW, une très jolie lumière !
Ginnie Hart: Many thanks, Olivier. Merci.

I have a good feeling that this will herald a great era Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: I hope so, Chad. It won't be good news for women or gays but perhaps right now they will concentrate on other important things that have fallen by the wayside?!

I'm not Catholic too, but is true, the suspence is bigger, but I say: In a Metallica concert havemore people than the Vatican yesterday.
Ginnie Hart: Well, you may be right about a Metallica concert, Oscar. Still, a lot of people are affected and let's hope most of it is for good! Thanks.

is there a new pope? man sometimes i think i need a television haha... hi Ginnie, i'll be starting up my photoblog on monday.... i missed you guys.... lovely dramatic black and white pic you got there... a bit scary since i was raised catholic haha (scarred for life i imagine)
Ginnie Hart: Did you even know the former pope retired (the first to do so in 600 years)?! It all happened so quickly, this choosing of the new pope. I think it has taken the entire world by surprise.

As regards you and your blog, I sure hope you have a lot to show-n-tell alfter your absence. It so happens we will be on a 15-day river cruise starting on Monday, but we'll catch up after we return.

Wow
Great lighting, details of architecture
So majestic
So wonderful
Congrats
*****
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Helys. And to think this was from 6 years ago!
I drove through some of that white smoke yesterday but found it was from a garden bonfire not from Rome.
I wish him well, all us old geezers need meaningful focus.
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Martin. At age 76 most of us would be glad to be totally retired!

Yes an interesting event, seems an interesting choice, but I can't help feeling he will be very conservative, still time will tell.
Ginnie Hart: Too conservative for women and gays, John, but perhaps a step forward in other areas of concern? I hope so.

Gorgeous black & white Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Frances.
Brilliant. Try this shot again early in the morning. The election of Pope was indeed faster than expected
Ginnie Hart: If I ever go back, Navin, I'll remember that. And yes, I wasn't expecting any decision before late Friday, if by then!
With Messi and Pope Francis Argentina's ego is at its peak Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Add Holland's present Princess Maxima who is soon to become Queen of the Netherlands. She's The soon-to-be king's wife from Argentina! smile
A very fine shot Ginnie, especially in B.& W. I don't mind an Argentinian Pope but what gets up my nose is the way the British media are already trawling history to find as many negative things to say about the man as they can, are the media like that in USA.and Holland?
Ginnie Hart: I'm only listening to CNN Int'l right now, Brian, which actually is based in London, I believe. So far I haven't been hearing anything negative, thankfully. He may even be willing to allow condoms for the prohibition of disease/infection!

Great detail - the announcement certainly did seem to come very quickly.

Hope Astrid is feeling a lot better.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Anne, and thanks. Astrid seemed to turn the corner yesterday afternoon (Thursday) but is still going to take it easy before we leave tomorrow.
Tears of happiness from people of Argentina.
Hmmm do you think the new pope would like the song, Don't Cry For Me Argentina? ;o)

Saw him on the balcony on BBC yesterday!
Wow, just like the Evita scene~

Come one, let's keep on karaoke'ing!
Ginnie Hart: You are too much, LC! Now I'll always think of "Don't Cry for me Argentina" whenever I think of the Pope. One of my favorite songs ever.

And don't forget that the soon-to-be King of the Netherlands is married to a woman from Argentina! She will soon be our Queen Maxima! Holland absolutely adores her.
Wonderful B&W image Ginnie. I hope this one will be more tolerant...
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Richard. More tolerant to the disenfranchised, I hope!
Well shot, Ginnie! The Curia moves in mysterious ways... etc.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Tom. I'm so eager to see how this all pans out for the world!
