It seems they have just had a skating race, Ginnie...and given you a brilliant photo-opportunity.
Ginnie Hart: Indeed, Ray. Actually, the girl on the left was asking me why I was taking pictures, to which I replied, "For my pleasure!" All in Dutch, of course. smile
What an outstanding shot Ginnie, such wonderful expression.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Sally. This was fun. smile
Brilliant capture!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Robin.

I can almost feel the cool crispness of the day from here ... and it's welcome relief from the heat!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Geoff. I can just imagine what it would feel like for you right now, to feel this wonderful cool crispness. I wish I could package some up for you!

When they're working day and night, oh girls ... they wanna have funnnnn! - ha what a great song. I used to wait for hours at the television set waiting for the music video to come on.

And, love the image. I am such a winter enthusiast! Snow just makes me happy.
Ginnie Hart: Don't you love it when images remind you of songs, Emily! smile I'm very like you when there is snow, especially on a sunny day. I become a little kid again! smile Thanks.
That's all they really want!!
I love this shot - so happy!
Ginnie Hart: If not fun, happiness, Elizabeth, right? But why not go for both! HA!

They were the lucky ones to have that ice 'in their backyard'.
Absolute fabulous shot. They sure had fun together.
Love the colours of the gloves.
Too bad the winter fun will be over after the weekend, they predict warm rain again.....
Ginnie Hart: We all grab it while we can, don't we! Maybe the warm rain will melt the bad ice and allow for a start-over with good ice everywhere. I want to see you skate this winter, soon! Bedankt, MLMA.

Congratulations - a very fine composition Ginnie. These gals look whacked by their efforts whilst their mates are still at it
Ginnie Hart: The girl on the left wanted to know why I was taking their pictures, Chris, and I told her "For my pleasure" (in Dutch). Maybe that's why they were laughing?! smile

Oh, what a happy time for Dutch children! I like this photo with the populars in the background very much! A typically Dutch scene!

Herinnering aan Holland
Denkend aan Holland
zie ik breede rivieren
traag door oneindig
laagland gaan,
rijen ondenkbaar
ijle populieren
als hooge pluimen
aan den einder staan;
en in de geweldige
ruimte verzonken
de boerderijen
verspreid door het land,
boomgroepen, dorpen,
geknotte torens,
kerken en olmen
in een grootsch verband.
de lucht hangt er laag
en de zon wordt er langzaam
in grijze veelkleurige
dampen gesmoord,
en in alle gewesten
wordt de stem van het water
met zijn eeuwige rampen
gevreesd en gehoord.

Ginnie Hart: It's what I love about the Dutch polder, Philine. I could die and go to heaven there! smile Hartstikke bedankt for the poem!

A lovely shot Ginnie, you've really caught their exhilaration! How lovely to be able to skate outdoors like that
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Sarah. I become a little girl again whenever I see it here!
The joys of children face in the winter, great composition, good day Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: Children of all ages, Roland! smile Thanks.

Lovely. I can just imagine the fun they had. The polder makes a fine impromptu skating rink for such antics and exercise.
Ginnie Hart: You got that right, Alan. I am in love with the Dutch polder all year 'round! Thanks.
Lovely photo, how sweet and it brings back memories of those happy days hanging out with the girls!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Catherine. Indeed. Those were the days. smile
Lovely capture of kids having fun Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir. smile
une agréable complicité entre elles
Ginnie Hart: So much better than the alternative, Angevine, isn't it! smile Merci.
Terrific shot Ginnie. The kids are really enjoying it aren't they
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Janet. I have learned from Astrid that the Dutch LONG for the outdoors, all year 'round. They are in heaven if it's cold enough in winter to skate!
That's a classic!
A must-sing song if I go karaoke. Ha ha~
Do you how to sing it in Dutch? ;o)
Ginnie Hart: HA! There's only one song I know how to sing in Dutch, LC, and it's about girls with red hair! grin Seriously.

The expressions on their faces is so typical of girls at that age. You captured that moment in time just right, including the skaters in the background. I can almost hear the giggles and laughter.
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Sue. You would know this age! smile The girls were hanging out by themselves and the boys by themselves. So cute. Thanks.

Can almost here them laughing from here
Ginnie Hart: Exactly, Adrian. smile
GREAT photo Ginnie! On so many levels. You captured their emotion, the atmosphere of the day, lovely contrasts, stunning light, bright colours and as all the photography books say, your picture tells a story with the skaters in the background and these three laughing and out of breath. I'm impressed.
Ginnie Hart: You sure know how to make my day, Reinhardt! Thank you.

An excellent picture, what with the skaters in the background and those copses of vertical trees. Very dutch, indeed.

The town where my in-laws hails from, will have little vendor tents - hot chocolate, glühwein, poffertjes, skate sharpener, etc while people will have fun doing rounds on the various canals.
Ginnie Hart: Oh, yes, Louis. On the bigger canals we see that all the time and we stop to eat a brat! This year has been bad for ice thus far with only smaller canals like this being skateable. The snowfall shortly after freezing has made the water more slushy than icy. If the warm rains melt the snow this weekend and then it gets cold again, there may be hope. Astrid is so ready to go skating this season yet!
A fine shot Ginnie, so much fun and happiness on show.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Brian. It brings back lots of skating memories for me. smile
Giggling 'bakvissen' on the ice - nice!
Ginnie Hart: HA! YES, Wim. smile
Great composition Ginnie and lovely shot of the girls giggling - capturing the spirit of winter! smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Martin. This was fun. smile

looks like they got winded from all that ice skating.. smile that's a nice shot of them with the light hitting them like that.. smile
Ginnie Hart: Actually, Rian, they were just goofing around at that end of the canal before crossing paths again with the boys at the other end. HA! Thanks.

Great. Beautiful smailes!

Have a nice day
Ginnie Hart: It's fun, Oscar, isn't it. Thanks.
i't so nice to see that the canals are frozen over for them to skate Ginnie... this is a fantastic picture....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: The Dutch wait for this to happen every year, Peter. It hasn't been a good year yet for good ice...just in some places. It snowed too soon and has made the ice surface very slushy in most places, even though it's still below zero. Astrid has to explain this to me over and over again!
That is such a joyous shot.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Michael. It's hard not to resist it.
