You have made it magical, Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: You're most kind, Ray. Thank you.
Looks very monochromatic.
Ginnie Hart: Indeed, Michael. smile
Many shops open here on Boxing day with their sales. I would prefer it if they didn't and then most people could have a proper Christmas. Boxing day is a holiday here but you would hardly think so.
Ginnie Hart: The weird thing here, Bill, is that furniture stores are open and people who don't know what else to do walk from one store to the other, just to window shop! It drives Astrid crazy! She's more into a "proper" Christmas!

wait, Jesus was born twice? hehe, Merry second Christmas you guys, lovely picture!!
Ginnie Hart: Well, not exactly, Elaine. To be honest, I'm still trying to figure it out. Astrid says the "real" Christmas day is the 1st Christmas Day, which is the 25th. Thanks.

You are so right, it drives me crazy that some shops are open today.

Boxing day for us is: to make soup stock from the pig's trotters we had had for Christmas lunch, and to make bubble and squeak from the the left over mashed spud and over boiled cabbage. We also have to carefully iron flat the the Christmas present wrappings ready for wrapping presents in 2013. Writing thankyou letters especially to my great Aunt Agnus who had sent me, for christmas, some old y-front underpants that her now deceased husband had actually never himself worn. With the shops being shut today, we have to use the now stale bread for making bread and hot milk for our breakfast. Very nice it is too with no shortage of sugar. Hope to listen to sports report Boxing Day football results on the wireles .. So you see Ginnie Busy busy so very busy.
Ginnie Hart: HAHAHA! Now I'm ready for a nap, Richard, and it's not even 10a. grin

Trust the Dutch to do something daft like having TWO Christmases Ginnie! Love the picture
Ginnie Hart: They had to come up with something more creative than Boxing Day, I think, Chris??? grin Thanks, Chris. I sure hope you find Ratty X.
loved this smile
wish you a Happy New Year smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Joshi. And the same to you.

Yes, we don't know 'Boxing Day', it is here also another shopping- free, rather quiet day to recreate ...I admire your refined treatment again - and genieten jullie beiden van deze dag, de regen heeft ook gestopt!
Ginnie Hart: Boxing Day was a totally new concept for me via our SC friends, Philine. I actually quite like having a 2nd Christmas Day. smile Gezellig.

Merry X-Mas!
Hey, this is the most beautiful Weihnachtsmarkt in Cologne♥
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Luiza, and I totally agree. smile Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I am of to see Bill to take his camera of him, them on to see Trimbo to show him how to shoot street scenes. Then it's off to Bath for a glass of parsnip wine with Chris.
Ginnie Hart: HAHAHA! You have your work cut out for you, Mick. Enjoy every minute of your hectic day! grin

I had much fun reading Trimbo's and Michael Shaw's comments, I am looking forward to another one by Chad! Boxing Day sounds in my ears like boxing each other with the fists and getting black and blue marks! But Bill explained the term to me with wise and solid words - and women are never boxing!
Ginnie Hart: I'm the same as you, Philine, with my understanding of Boxing Day. I always have to think twice when I hear it. smile
Very atmospheric Ginnie - my only ever briefest of visits coincided with a similar fair at Saarbrucken, I really enjoyed it!
Ginnie Hart: Once a year is perfect for me and lasts for another year. smile Thanks, Fred.
Boxing day is like a big shopping day in London!
It's too scary~
Ginnie Hart: My understanding of your Boxing Day is that's it's like America's Black Friday after Thanksgiving. YES, SCARY!

Well, Ginnie, in the Czech Republic, there are even THREE official holidays for Christmas, from 24th to 26th. Some shops are open, especially groceries in the morning on 24th. And also any employer may ask its employees to come and work during holidays but they should get extra money for doing that. I don't agree with opening shops during Christmas either, it's no problem to buy what you need in advance.

I guess you've taken the photo recently but it looks like taken many years ago. Its atmosphere seems VERY traditional. smile
Ginnie Hart: Most interesting, Petra, that your country also adds the 24th...which makes a lot of sense to me, since so many people celebrate their Christmas on Christmas Eve. Good for you!

And yes, the image is recent but I did enjoy making it look "old." smile
I like this, Ginnie, with that ladies hat,it looks like the nineteen thirties! smile
Ginnie Hart: I wondered who would be the first to say something about that hat, Frank. HA! It was YOU. smile She seems so fashionable...from the 30's! Thank you.

Such beautiful light in this; as though it was lit by gaslight. Some of our shops have been open since 6am for sales; ridiculous. I'm sure you're having a more relaxing day.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Alan. Your Boxing Day is like America's Black Friday after Thanksgiving. Very scary and ridiculous!

I like this a lot Ginnie, fine colours and composition. It looks like the 1930s.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir. It felt like the 30s to me, too. smile

I may have told you guys, but when the Dutch colonised the southern tip of Africa, they had three Christmas days (diary of the colonisation leader). BUT, all three Christmas days were ordinary working days.

Long ago, we had Boxing day - the day to chuck away all the boxes. For some time now, the 26th is known as the Day of Goodwill. A public holiday, celebrating nothing in particular, since all goodwill is supposed to be spread by the 25th. So people sit around, check if there is enough in the freezer for another bbq, mow the lawn and such everyday stuff.

Great picture, you have caught the people just on the right level and percentage of focus.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Louis. I love hearing how other countries "do it." I especially thought of you and all your Dutch ties! smile
I like this Ginnie, it has a touch of your own delightful trademark processing, enjoy Christmas Day #2.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you and thank you, Brian!
Great shot of the entrance. Love the lamps
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Ayush. This is a fun place at this time of the year!

the Xmas market! Is wonderful!

Have a nice day
Ginnie Hart: Yes, it is, Oscar. Muchas gracias!
We've always had two days for Christmas and, for many, the holiday stretches from Christmas eve to the day after New Year's Day - originally to save energy over the break.
Ginnie Hart: As school kids, we always had at least a full week off...but not usually at work as adults. It makes sense for everyone to be off, if possible!

Awesome Ginnie, beautiful.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Anupam.
Lovely 40's feel to this - the woman in the hat actually looks like she could fit into that time period!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Elizabeth. I LOVE that lady's hat!!! Astrid said the German ladies love being fashionable like that. Her mother's heritage is German and she loved making fancy dresses for Astrid...which Astrid hated. HA!
Well, I think the more Christmas the better. I am going to shoot for a third tomorrow.
Ginnie Hart: I totally agree, Michael. The entire week between Christmas and New Years should be one long Christmas holiday! smile
j'aime bien l'effet et la teinte sur les personnages
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Angevine. Merci.
This is a magnificent image, Ginnie. Any author writing a Christmas tale would be thrilled to have this as a cover.
