On at least one windowsill in almost every Dutch home sits an orchid.

This is one that sits on ours, thanks to Astrid's green thumb.

They are the most seductive bloom ... erotic in their complexity and curves. Like the texture application too ... lends a kind of history or story behind the beauty smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Geoff. And to think there are over 35,000 species of orchids waiting to seduce us all over the world! smile

That is a fabulous close-up. Love the title. I found the right translation for the word.
For some strange reason, I also see the tale of a scorpion in it.... wonder if there is a connection.
Every day I will look (and talk) at my orchids, see how they are doing.
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, MLML. It definitely wants to hook us into its charm! But then, you are already hooked, taking such tender, loving care of all your plants. I love our windowsill! smile
She is beautiful Ginnie and the French handwriting speaks of her beauty... good stuff my Lady....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Peter! (Those French know how to say it, of course!)
Perfect title here.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Jacquelyn.

Oh, a very refined, some erotical photo -thanks to your processing skills - but why the French texture?
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Philine. Why? "Ours is not to reason why; ours is but to do or die." HA! Well, it just happened to be the texture I most liked in that moment. And of course, you know how seductive the French are when they start speaking. grin
Terrific image you've created Ginnie- so beautiful, so elegant!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Elizabeth. I love Astrid's orchids and still am amazed she grows them so effortlessly!

Vibramnt image!

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Marcie. I LOVE Astrid's orchids. smile
Did you know that orchids actually mean "testicles" in Greek?! Ha ha... grin

Yeah, it's so OMG!

Hence, you don't see people placing orchids on their window cills in Greece!
Ginnie Hart: No I didn't, LC!!! OMG, indeed. I'm so glad I ended up using that title (after all my back-n-forths on it!). smile
Beautiful close-up. I like tones of this flower and DOF you choice.
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Marie. Merci.
Lovely faded colours in this Ginnie & DOF works to great effect macro.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
White does it! a love letter follows.
Ginnie Hart: It's fun, Juan Carlos, isn't it. smile Gracias.

A very beautiful flower indeed Ginnie. Astrid most deffinetly has green fingers by the looks of this beautiful and very happy orchid. Beautifuly captured and presented.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Laurette. You'd be quite pleased by the line-up Astrid has on our windowsill. This is but one of her beauties. smile

Yes, you are right: French sounds in my ears most seductive, too, and I wish I could better understand it.
Here a Chinese poem in English:

When two people are one
in their inmost hearts,
They shatter even the strength of iron or of bronze.
And when two people understand each other
in their inmost hearts,
Their words are sweet and strong,
like the fragrance of orchids.

I Ching

Is there not any Dutch poem about de orchideeën?
Ginnie Hart: Awwww. Thank you for this lovely poem, Philine. Very sweet. I'll have to ask Astrid if she knows of any Dutch poems for orchids. smile
An orchid in every house sounds perfectly charming! Can't imagine a more beautiful and delicate flower, as your photograph wonderfully illustrates.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Doug. The practice here has totally surprised me. It's like it's built into the national psyche!
It is a beautiful flower as are all Orchids.
Ginnie Hart: I so agree with you, Brian!

35,000 species !!! You better start collecting.
Lovely capture- so seductive.
Ginnie Hart: Back in my 20s, Elsabe, I was in Mexico and met someone who colledtec orchids there. He told me Mexico alone had over 20,000 species! It blows my mind. Thank you.
Amazing shot Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
Seductive indeed Ginnie, I like your words too graphed into the scene - clever smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Martin. Every once in awhile I do like to get out the macro lens for flowers. smile
This is an artist's rendering for sure, Ginnie. Gorgeous!

Have you ever read any of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe series of books? Wolfe, a stay-at-home detective, grew & tended hothouse orchids in his NYC brownstone.
Ginnie Hart: You're a sweetheart, Beverly. Thank you. No, I've never heard of Rex Stout but I sure can picture his NYC brownstone!

This is so lovely soft and gentle. But like Astrid I see a scorpion too.

But I am a Scorpio, so maybe that explains everything ;-)
Ginnie Hart: That may definitely explain everything, Cherry. Astrid has 3 planets in Scorpio's natural 8th house. No wonder she saw it, too. smile

How come an orchid sits in Dutch homes? Is it a special tradition? I'd be interested in learning more about that. And how lucky is Astrid to have a green thumb! I am no good at planting things, my flowers always die sad
Ginnie Hart: Good question, Emily, about why THIS flower sits in homes all over the Netherlands. I'll have to ask Astrid!
Wonderful. That is a beauty.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Michael. I have always been intrigued by orchids!
love the words on the leafs... Sorry I haven't been by as often as I would like, some troubles and worries privately
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Chantal. So sorry to hear you've had "troubles and worries." I hope all is okay soon.
Excellent!! Amazing image!

Beautiful interpretation of the sensuous orchid. From time to time I attempt to photograph the orchid; never quite being 100% pleased with my efforts. Your orchid is stunning with effective DoF and texture.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Sue. Astrid's orchids mesmerize me all year 'round!

Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir.
j'apprécie la teinte jaune moutarde où on diarit qu'elle est tellement forte que le nez devient mais très rouge....ou la gorge s'inflamme
Ginnie Hart: I like the way you said that, l'Angevine. Merci.
I liked this so much on your blog that I just HAD to come here and see it larger! It's even more glorious viewed here. smile (I answered your comment on my iPhone blog... short answer, image + ALL post processing is done on either (or both) iPhone and iPad.)

By the way, I get confused/confounded every time I come to Shutterchance and figure I'm going to have to spend some time learning the interface. I don't use the "ShMood" feature and today, it is showing up as a red, angry face as I write this comment so I hope it doesn't show that way for you! (you might guess where my mind goes with ShMood and an angry face) smile My real mood!
Ginnie Hart: Bless you, dear Lady! THANK YOU.

Not to confuse you more but that ShMood face is not just for you but for me. We as photographers at SC get to tell you how much criticism we're willing to accept from you the commenter. The red face means you can really lay it all out on the line and I will pay attention to whatever you say. I hope that makes sense? In the beginning I started out with Green (basically saying I'm an amateur and probably have no clue what I'm doing, so please be gentle). Then I bumped myself to Yellow, saying I can accept your helpful suggestions. Now that I'm at Red, you can let loose. HA!
