Smooth Operator

All those wheels, levers, and gears, but for what?

It's a water canon for fire control.

(ask the cows!)

At the Prince Bernhard Locks in Tiel, Netherlands.

Great symmetry and tones Ginnie, works v nicely indeed.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Fred. Such contraptions always intrigue me. smile
I'll take mechanical over digital every time. I suppose there are sensors and such hidden around in that thing, but look at that hand-turned wheel up top! And another on the side! And gears! It's beautiful!
Ginnie Hart: Me, too, Linda...mechanical over digital. I love to see how things work! Thanks.

Love the selective colouring. I almost looks like the rest is sprayed with aluminum paint.
I guess the man/woman that designed this device knew what he/she was doing.
Would love to see it in 'action'.
A beautiful picture.
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, MLMA. I love gadgets like this. I'd love to be the one turning those wheels. smile And yes, I'd love to see it in action, too, but not because of a fire....just for fun, during a festivity.
I like the small bits of color! Quiet a complicated thing isn't it?!
Ginnie Hart: I love stuff like this, Elizabeth. I actually think I could figure this one out. smile Thanks.
I just love these wheel tourney pipe gear whatchyamacallits Ginniesmile... and you painted them a very nice burnt orange for us... thanks....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: I had no clue what it was, Peter, till Astrid researched it for me. Wouldn't you love to see it in operation?! smile Thanks.
A great choice of treatment that this partial desaturation highlighting the main subject of the image. I really like and, like you, the Lilac is one of my favorite flowers. Good day Ginnie !
Ginnie Hart: Thanks a million, Marie. Merci.
Nicely done Ginnie. I have got to go to work today! and tomorrow and Wednesday!!!
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Bill...but are you kidding me???? I THOUGHT YOU WERE RETIRED!

Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Khalil. Merci.
ça donne l'envie de dévisser ce qui est en couleur...
Ginnie Hart: The translator said "It gives the desire to unscrew in color..." Now I'm having a good laugh, l'Angevine. Merci. smile

I like the clarity of the contraption, Ginnie - it looks very business-like, too
Ginnie Hart: Clear and business-like. Hmmm. I like that, Lisl. smile Thanks.
Have you considered a career in plumbing? in the art department I mean, I'm sure they have one smile Good week Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: HA! You're brilliant, Juan Carlos. grin Thanks.

It's for chopping up water Ginnie: the Dutch are good at that
Ginnie Hart: HA! The Dutch are good at just about everything, Chris. The more I learn, the more amazed I am! smile
Looking at this the top wheel is to raise and lower the canon, middle wheel is to move the canon in the direction of the fire.Lever is to open the valve to let the water in and bottom wheel is for a hose conection, reminds me of the place i worked in .Nice one Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: I have a feeling you picked this apart and put it back together in a split second, Mick. BRAVO. I love it. grin

Enjoy your trip to Malta. Travel mercies.
I love the tone of that brown against the b&w Ginnie. Nice piece of metalage.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir. In real life it was very bright orange! smile
great selective coloring
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, Chantal.

Would never have thought to have taken this shot Ginnie but if every one took the same kind of thing life would be boring.

Excellent processing Ginnie.
I'm sure the cows will never have to fear when a fire does start.
With so many levers and taps, I hope the fire men knows which one is for what.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Elsabe, and exactly. I would love to watch someone working this like a pro, man or woman. smile
You've given this mechanical contraption the artistic look of a piece of sculpture, Ginnie. Great job!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, dear Beverly. It FELT like a sculpture to me. smile

A nice mix of red and monochrome - guess I'll have to learn bovinish if I want to talk to the cows.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, George. I never saw the cows until later on the screen. That part still amazes me! smile
Very nicely highlighted by the selective colouring Ginnie.
Fine capture!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, kind sir. Merci.
A fine shot Ginnie, you must have beaten Astrid to it. The selective colouring is a good idea and superbly done.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Brian. To be honest, sometimes Astrid and I are on top of each other when we take pictures during our photo hunts. grin

I have a feeling that our fields will need a lot of irrigation this year, too. Already half the UK is officially in drought conditions. I like the colour popping here.
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Alan. I hate the thought of drought for any of us! We're finally getting some rain this week. Maybe it'll fly over to you? I hope so.

The watchamacallit's operator will need to attend a 6 month watchamacallit operators course. I like the symmetry
Ginnie Hart: I'm sure the operator does need training, Louis. smile Thanks.

Looks the first thing to capture in a water fight!

The selective colour works a treat here Ginnie smile
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Geoff. Apparently they do have fun with this at certain times of the year when they show off the place. It would be fun to be there then. smile
A surprising photo !

gotta watch them cows, they light up easily, or they smoke in bed...
nice selective saturation job too!!

Rob
Ginnie Hart: HA! Yup. Always watch out for the cows. grin Thanks for the smile, Rob.
Indeed an interesting device. Nice how you had it stand out against the background.
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Wim. I'd love to see it in operation! smile
I like the selective colour here....and the almost perfect symmetry, much better than the perfect symmetry smile
Ginnie Hart: You are so politically correct, Aksel. grin I love it. Thanks.
