We Got Snow!

Okay, it's only a dusting, but half a snow is better than no snow at all!

This happened on Monday afternoon after I posted our De Hoop windmill (last post).

The 1597 Dalempoort in Gorinchem, Netherlands.

Ah but such a lovely dusting it is!!!
Ginnie Hart: After 2 days, it's still there, Elizabeth, so that tells you it's also COLD. YAY. Finally winter has come. Thanks.
I love the old buildings that you have over there. I am so jealous.
Ginnie Hart: I know what you mean, Michael. I don't ever get used to them or take them for granted! This Dalempoort is from 1597! In fact, I will add that to the text.

A charming scene Ginnie: I love that archway - it's so full of character
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Chris. Once you go through that arch from the street side, you enter these fields where people walk their dogs. It's quite lovely to see as you walk along the city wall.
What a pretty winter picture! I really like the tones you have achieved and the Atmosphere perfectly capture the scene ...

Saludos !
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Eduardo. Gracias.

WOW! We still not, but have sunshine and -3°C...
Ginnie Hart: Well, Luiza, there's still time! I didn't think it'd ever happen for us this winter. It's -6C today and the sun is again shining brightly. I love it! smile

Snow is snow grin AND we keep our fingers and cold toes crossed, we might get natural ice, so that means; we take the skates out of the grease (Dutch saying)
This is an absolute fabulous picture, too bad I could not join you on this walk.
This is were we are waiting for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTMwZugM6v4
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, MLMA. I know how much you are waiting for the ELFSTEDENTOCHT race! It would be something if I can see it in my lifetime with my own eyes. But seeing it live on TV would also be a real treat. Maybe one of these years!

You are obviously a snow-fan, Ginnie! Looks promising for more?
Ginnie Hart: Oh yes, Elisabeth. I do so much better with cold weather than with hot. Don't get me wrong...I also like cool and warm. smile Astrid says they're predicting more snow over the weekend. YAY!

A lovely Dutch scenery with an old- fashionend look thanks to your sepia processing! Yes, we had only a touch of snow, but now it is rather cold -9° C! I like the fresh, healthy air -en een fijne zonnige dag ook jullie beiden toegewenst!
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Philine. I do so much better with cold weather than with hot. And the last 2 days have been delightfully sunny while freezing cold. How can you beat that. Astrid says more snow is predicted over the weekend. YAY!

You got the same amount as we did. So far this winter we have got off lightly. We are rapidly approaching the warmer part of the year so every day counts. Goodness me it is February already Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: If we can get just one month of good, hard winter, Chad, I'll be a happy camper! It's amazing, isn't it. How did January fly by so quickly?

Yippee! I hope that there is more on the way. I hear that in Poland is is -20deg C and the cold is expected to head into western Europe and then on to the UK. I love the wonderful old building with the arch.
Ginnie Hart: Up till this past weekend we were hovering around 40F all winter, Alan. This week it's getting colder with every day...now at 20F. I'm loving it! Thanks, Alan.
That is enough snow fro me. There is a danger of snow here on Friday/Saturday. This is our book sale day so I am not happy!!
Ginnie Hart: Astrid says we're supposed to get more snow over the weekend, too, Bill. If you get it, I hope it sends people out in droves to your book sale. Wouldn't that be something!
I love these shades of brown and gold and architecture of these houses brown and white
Ginnie Hart: Merci, dear Marie. I do love it here where we live! smile
Somebody has to remove that sign in the middle of the tower arch. Here we put them at a side!
Ginnie Hart: HA! I guess the sign IS at the side, Juan Carlos, in real life...just not in my image. smile Gracias.
I doubt if the land will be covered with snowmen.
Ginnie Hart: HA! Not yet, Mary! smile
love and pleasant holland atmosphere... nice and delicate panorama
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Fabrizio. Grazie.

As Michael says I love the buildings you have there. We only have a bit more snow but this morning it was -11C so I drove the boys to school smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Frida. Astrid says we're supposed to get more snow this weekend, so maybe I'll get my wish. smile It's around -6C for us right now but getting colder with each passing day. I love it.

Wow! Love this view! We had a bit of snow too but I'm hoping for a real snowstorm! Lol! It seems we're getting more snow in Central and Southern Italy rather than here in the Alps...
Ginnie Hart: I'd LOVE a real snow storm this winter, Sil. Wouldn't that be fun. Easy for me to say, of course, since I'm retired and don't have to drive anywhere. But the thought does bring a smile.... smile
Not enough to make a snowman Ginnie but an excellent winter scene.
Ginnie Hart: No, you're right, Peter. Not enough snow yet but I'm crossing my fingers for the weekend. smile Thanks.

Beautiful scene Ginnie! This is more than London, but we're being threatened with some soon! smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Martin. Astrid says we're supposed to get more over the weekend, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! smile
A lovely winter scene, great treatment as always Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you, Fred. If it's winter, it needs to snow. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. smile
more than enough snow to give a nice image
Ginnie Hart: Bedankt, Chantal.
Congratulations Ginnie, beautiful image to go along with the fresh snow! I'm told La Nina is responsible for our unusually warm winter. We have had daffodils, narcissus and forsythia blooming for about 4 weeks now. Japanese magnolias are blooming too! Crazy.
Ginnie Hart: And didn't they tell us it would be a severe winter, Doug??? Well, it's not over yet! This is our first week of temps reaching and staying below freezing. Maybe there's still hope! Astrid says we're supposed to get more snow over the weekend. YAY.
A dusting is more than we ever get!! lovely photo
Ginnie Hart: Thanks for stopping by and commenting, HC. Believe it or not, this middle part of the Netherlands almost never gets snow, so it's a big deal when we even get a dusting. smile
A superb winter scene Ginnie!
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Richard. Merci.
Ginnie,

You mite be able to help me in your likeys you have a number of photo's, how do you get yours there as in my blog just can't find how to do it.
Ginnie Hart: OK, Peter. If you're at somebody's image that you want to Likey, you first click on "My Account" in the top-right corner. A line will pop up underneath with "buddies" and "likeys." Next to each there is a + sign. Click on the + sign to the right of the Likeys and it will now be in your own Likeys file. And if you refresh the page you're on, it should show that that image has been Likeyed. At least that's what I do.

No matter that it's just a dusting..at least you know it's really winter!!! Gorgeous scene and image!
Ginnie Hart: It is definitely winter by the temps alone, Marcie. We are finally consistently below freezing! BRRR. I had almost forgotten how cold it can get. smile Thanks.

Nice shot! No snow is better than any snow, we havent had a normal winter yet with much snow and so on but Im sick of it anyway. smile
Ginnie Hart: I haven't had time to get sick of our winter yet, Mats. Give me at least another month. smile Thanks.
Cold, here, too and we may get a little snow, paradoxically, if it gets a bit warmer!
Ginnie Hart: Astrid says we're supposed to get more snow this weekend, Tom. I hope so! smile I have a feeling we'll be sending it on to you once it arrives.
Like Bill this is more than ample snow for me I'm afraid to say. Both our children have to drive out to work, indeed our daughter spends most of her day in a car, and we have a journey to do on Monday and we hate snowy roads. Sorry if I sound like a wet blanket because I do like your picture, that clock tower on the arch is great.
Ginnie Hart: I know, Brian, that there are always two sides to the snow coin. Sad but true. It's so beautiful but can also be very dangerous. For you and all your loved ones, I wish travel mercies!

i sort of prefer dusting because it highlights the details of the landscape.. smile this looks nice.. smile
Ginnie Hart: Good, Rian. So glad it was just a dusting, then. Thanks. smile
Nice composition and shot, we might get a little snow tomorrow also smile
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, John. Astrid says we're supposed to get more over the weekend. How fun!
Superb photo and your texture is very nice. Excellent work Ginnie. Have a lovely day. Amicably Antoine.
Ginnie Hart: Thank you kindly, Antoine. Merci.
you are welcome to it, still having nightmares from last years fluttering s, lovely shot though Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: As I just told Brian, there are always two sides to the snow coin, Derek. It's so beautiful but can also be dangerous and most inconvenient. I do wish for all of us safety and travel mercies. Stay warm. Thanks.
I love the almost monochromatic rendering of this landscape. Adds a feeling of ancient times, just like the main building itself. But then you see the more modern house in the background, and the perspective widens. Beautifully captured and processed.
Ginnie Hart: You're most kind and generous, Otto. Thank you.
Being naturally a creature of the warnmth, I have to disagree with you and say that no snow is better than half a snow.

But it is an interesting treatment of this picture.
Ginnie Hart: HAHA! Well, I do know some people do not like snopw, Sheila, so I can accept your sentiment. If I can have one month of it, I'll be a happy camper. Okay, one week!
This dusting has had the desired effect by enhancing this image and giving it a real wintery feel.
Ginnie Hart: You're very kind, Martin. Thank you.
Ha ha... You gotta tiptoe carefully.
It's fairy dust! wink
Don't spoil the magic wink
Ginnie Hart: HA! I like that, LC. smile Thanks.
A great shot Ginnie! A lot of detail too, thanks to the clear light. They say it'll snow on Friday!!
Ginnie Hart: Hartstikke bedankt, Wim. Astrid says there will be snow over the weekend, so if we see it in Zutohen on Saturday while with you, we will be very happy campers. We have snow tires on the car, so we're all set. smile See you then.

And already they are discussing the Elfstedentocht smile Great picture.
Ginnie Hart: Oh, yes, Louis. It doesn't take much to get a big dream going! smile Thanks.
I would call that just a bit of icing sugar Ginnie grin... but it is a great composition....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: Just a bit, Peter, is right. But like I said, a bit is better than none at all! grin Thanks.

Very pretty smile

It is very chilly here, but no snow (yet).
Ginnie Hart: Thanks, Cherry. We haven't had any more snow since Monday, but Astrid says we're supposed to get some more over the weekend. You, too, I think? Have fun, if so!
