On my last post, I showed you the Rhein/Rhine River while standing on the other side of this church in Basel, Switzerland. This is the Münster reformed protestant church, one of Basel's most recognizable landmarks. (And check it out! I took this photo at 10:45 a.m., after the sun had come out. How close is that!)
Today we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the States. But it's ALWAYS time to give thanks, every day, isn't it! I'm thankful for YOU!

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the States. But it's ALWAYS time to give thanks, every day, isn't it! I'm thankful for YOU!
Ginnie: Yes, it is, Chris. I love to think that you have seen this, too. Just think of all the same stuff we SCers have seen at different times in our lives!
Ginnie: Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Ada. Donica and I are flying to Phoenix tomorrow morning and then driving to Sedona on Friday to spend 4 days in the Red Rocks, where the vortexes are. We've always wanted to "experience that! http://www.lovesedona.com/01.htm

Off to Sedona in the morning!!

It is amazing how a sun dial from who knows when is still marking nearly the correct time...who would have ever thought...and, you would notice for sure
The pattern of the tiles on the roof is just amazing and the clarity of your shot...perfect!
I know you enjoyed this city..we will go back for sure, but not before we see Sedona on Friday.
Ginnie: When I checked the EXIF data on the image, it astounded me how close the time was to the above shadow! Nicholas was so cute when he said the roof looked like carpet.
We are now in Sedona on Friday! Can you believe it! Just think of all we have seen since we got off the plane in Phoenix yesterday! The Apache Trail loop was worth the whole trip thus far...and then the Prescott-Jerome-Cottonwood loop today.
Wishing you, and all of my cousins across the sea, a very happy Thanksgiving
A beautiful photograph
Ginnie: Thank you, Paul. It was a happy, thankful day of travel to Phoenix, AZ, for us. But no big Thanksgiving meal, which we missed, believe it or not. Maybe we'll still get one over the weekend?

A fine reminder of my many visits in Basel some time ago- time has passed- time is flying away- but photographer... can sometimes stop the time and can freeze the happiest or.. moments of life! The sun-dial- your symbol, our symbol! A fine feast for you and mijn hartelijke dank for your so beautiful, thoughtful... pics since more than one year! (I'm on way to Frankfurt "Old-Dutch paintings")
Ginnie: These are what I call "eternalized moments," Philine...the ones you CAN stop while they happen. Looking back at the pictures is like the "second blessing." I thought of you when I posted this same photo in full color at my other blog...which you will probably like better: http://ginniehart.blogspot.com/2008/11/happy-thanksgiving.html
Firstly Happy Thanksgiving Day to one and all.
Love all the intricate detail on this church Ginnie, it's also well preserved.
The dial is awesome.
You were honoured by the sun that day.
Safe trip
Ginnie: The sun has also honored us thus far on our Arizona trip, Tracy. We are very fortunate. So many things for which I am thankful! Thank YOU. Today (Sat. morning) we take our hot-air balloon ride over the Red Rocks!
Ginnie: Thanks, Chantal. I'll be thinking of you today (Sat. morning) as I go on my first hot-air balloon ride...over the Red Rocks of Sedona, Arizona.
there is a lot to be thankfulll for, I am thankfull that I once met you in Holland, this way I always remember you! We/Dutchies are celebrating ( mostly 4 the children...) 'Sinterklaas, I showed the pictures on my blog here: www.joannwalraven.blogspot.com
Bye Ginnie greetings from JoAnn/Holland'
(how are you doing? and why is your faced under this comment in a bad mood?)
Ginnie: I am very thankful I met you as well, JoAnn...a year ago??! I'm also glad you're feeling better these days.
Stunning mosaic patterns...and what a wonderful clock.
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving..
Ginnie: Thank you, Marcie. We had a fabulous day driving the Apache Trail loop just outside of Phoenix on Thanksgiving Day. Yesterday (Friday) we took a carefree drive north to Sedona and took the Prescott-Jerome-Cottonwood drive, stopping along the way. Today we start off with a hot-air balloon ride over the Sedona Red Rocks! This is one place I've always wanted to see, so I'm very thankful!
Happy Thanksgiving day Ginnie, hope you have a lovely one.
Love the mosaic detail of the roof tiles, well captured.
How do you read the time off one these clocks on an over cast day?
There's one down my end that I've been trying to get a hang of for years, but no joy
Ginnie: HA! No luck on gray days, Fotografa. That's all there is to it. Thanks.
This roof is something else, isn't it? A piece of art by itself. You won't see a roof like this in a nowadays' architecture.
Happy T-Day, Ginnie.
Ginnie: I guess you and Ti wouldn't be figuring in this type of roof into your architectural designs, Victor, for sure. This is probably a lost art by now?
Hope you're having a great holiday weekend, as we are...in Sedona right now. We just got back from a sunrise hot-air balloon ride, one of the all-time greatest expeiences of my life!
Maureen and I have just been thoroughly entertained by your e-card Ginnie, great fun. Now to the picture, what an amazing roof and lovely colours in the stonework.
Ginnie: That e-card really is my favorite, year after year, Brian. Thanks for checking it out.
What an amazing clock! Wonderful capture and Happy Thanksgiving!
Ginnie: We are having such a great time in Sedona right now, Sherri. We had a fabulous hot-air balloon ride this morning and after lunch will go out to see the cliff dwelling of the Sinagua Indians at Montezuma Castle nearby. So much to see and do! Hope YOU're having a good holiday weekend.
One thing about that clock is that it will be a difficult fit on your arm. It did prove that your personal timekeeping mechanism is correct. Swiss time pieces are never wrong.
Excellent picture. Thank you too Ginnie.
Ginnie: No way to fit on MY arm, Louis, for sure! I sure was surprised to see how precise it was. I bet it's right even when the sun isn't shining.
Aha, you've found a hanging sundial! They're much more common than I used to think.
The patterns on the roof are rather amazing too, do you know if they're ceramic or made from different coloured rock?
Ginnie: I couldn't believe how many sundials I saw in Switzerland, Ellie. Maybe that's what got them started on Swiss time!!! I have no idea about that roof and what it's made of. Hmmm. Now you've got me wondering!
A little bit late I hope you had a great thanksgiving Day.
Any idea what your next series of photos will be about? Yes...I'm curious
Ginnie: We had a great holiday, Ilger, flying to Phoenix and driving the Apache Trail loop. Now we're enjoying the Red Rocks of Sedona to the north! I'm guessing you see something of that soon.
Oh what a beautiful church! Hope you enjoyed your thanksgiving, Ginnie!
Ginnie: We are having a great Thanksgiving weekend, Mary, in the Sedona, AZ, area. Today (Sunday) we visit the vortexes. Yesterday we did the hot-air balloon ride at sunrise with Cathedral Rock in the distance. It was just glorious...one of the best experiences of my life thus far.
Thinking of you. Hope you had a wonderful holiday and all is well.
The roof reminds me of some of the intricate sidings on houses here in Germany.
Ginnie: The holiday is still in full swing, Kathryn. Tomorrow, Monday, we go to the Grand Canyon for the day, then back to Phoenix and then home to Atlanta on Tuesday, It's been very nice.
I'll be thinking of you next week as you prepare for eye surgery. Remember, there is only fear or love!
Very nice sundial. Its not very often you see one.
Ginnie: Especially not in the United States, Brian!

Wonderful picture, sun dials always are intriguing.
You are so right about being thankful for every brandnew day to come.
The roof looks like a piece of art.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Lekra, for stopping by and commenting.
Thank you for your hint to your second blog- all the pics from the Switzerland-Album are beautiful, and it is a pity that you can post only some of them; honestly said I find the SC-photo of the Münster in Basel a bit more beautiful (the patterns on the roof are of glazed ceramic) than the coloured one, maybe because of the more nostalgic flair which corresponds to my own Swiss memories- for I had very good friends in Liestal/Baselbiet (both are dead, she was a poet, he a doctor, healer and sculptor- an interesting family) and often we visited Basel and Zürich.- I imagine that you are enjoying wonderful holidays in a fascinating landscape- You might return freshly recreated, full of exciting experiences- having found the manna of life?
Ginnie: You have quite surprised me, Philine, by liking this muted image more to your liking than the full-color one. I do like it when I'm pleasantly surprised. I have indeed found the "manna of life" here in the desert of Arizona and find that to be symbolically significant. It's been a soulful place! Some of those images will start showing up soon, you can be sure.
AMAZING FOTO Ginnie.
I am very pleased to be able to see the sun clock tower that is in the wall. Something rare. Roof of the church's great and the good. Regard from Yogyakarta City Indonesia.
Ginnie: Sundials have always intrigued me, Bram. When I find a BIG one like this, I fell I have found gold! Thanks.
Time looks pretty close to me. Excellent capture Ginnie, the architectural design and patterns are truly amazing. Like the framing and the sharpness of this shot, outstanding job!
Ginnie: If there were no such thing as clocks back then, John, this would be about as close as one could get to the real time! I was quite amazed. Thanks.
Hope you had a wonderful holiday Ginnie!! And there you are...looking up again...to find such marvelous details.
Ginnie: Our holiday ends today, Tuesday, Lina, as we head back to Phoenix and then fly home to Atlanta later this afternoon. It has been a glorious time of R&R, here in the Arizona desert. The beauty is just incredulous!
hehe, I remember walking around on top of the tower when I was in Basel. I loved the pattern on the roof.
Ginnie: When I went back later in the day to climb the tower, Cliff, I got there 15 minutes before closing and they wouldn't let me go up since I wouldn't be able to do it in time. I was so unhappy! Maybe another time!
