I like this very much, Ginnie. More Dutch you cannot get and this is just an amazing piece of artistic "house-labour"...
Great designs and wonderful put together.
Ginnie Hart: This is the kind of counted-cross stitchery I would do, Astrid. Hmmm. Wonder if the pattern is for sale???

I recognise the words for the delicious syrup waffles Ginnie.
Ginnie Hart: Oh, yes, Chad. They didn't miss anything here, I don't think!
I rather like samplers and this one is a corker Ginnie
Ginnie Hart: I totally agree with you, Bill!

I didn't know the word 'snert'!
Ginnie Hart: I didn't either, Philine. It's another word for erwtensoep (pea soup).
I like it... is that really stitched? wow, it looks like a pen drawing!
Ginnie Hart: Yes, Elaine: counted-cross stitch. It DOES look like a pen-n-ink drawing, indeed.
Did I read stroopwafels????
Ginnie Hart: Oh, yes, Mary. smile
Isn't that a really interesting sampler.
Ginnie Hart: One of the best I've ever seen, Brian!
there is a lot of art in that stitchery Ginnie... i like it....petersmile
Ginnie Hart: I totally agree, Peter, on both counts.
Delightfully old fashioned
Ginnie Hart: I agree, Ruthie!

No clogs, though? I see ice skating; now wouldn't that be lovely if the dykes froze again during winter?
Ginnie Hart: I declare, Alan, but you're right about the wooden shoes/clogs. The word "klompen" is there, though. And yes, we would all love if the canals would freeze again...THIS WINTER!

These kind of stitcheries have some family meaning most of the time. For instance, we have something similar with my wife's, my name and our oldest three children; including names and birth dates. It was a gift from a friend of my wife. When our 4th and youngest arrived, we sent the stitch work back and she added the name.

Now the one in your picture. Ens is a village in the Noord-Oost Polder and close to Ens, there is an even smaller village Kraggenburg. According to the "Bedrijven Inzicht" for Ens, HJW Bouhof en MM Bouhof-Marijs are farming at Drietorensweg 18, 8307 PE Ens. If you would Google the address on Google Maps, you will clearly see where the couple is making a living of sugar beet, potatoes and other similar products. The other name in your picture, AWG Bouhof, must be their son.

What tickles me, is what this embroidery is doing in Gorcums Museum? Second tickle - why are the 2017 and 2018 dates included?

Have a great weekend.
Ginnie Hart: What fabulous inormation, Louis! As to your last questions, there was a Hollands Glorie theme in the exhibition: "Especially for this exhibition members of association MerkWaardig work have embroidered with the theme 'Hollands Glorie'. The works show a great diversity in techniques and interpretation of this subject and form a beautiful reflection of the association that celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The works range from modern and traditional samplers to objects such as a show roll or an embroidery book."
I brought a couple of packs of stroopwafel back from the recent hols in Hollandshire.
Ginnie Hart: Definitely Dutch, Tom. It's fun to watch them being made.
Quel beau trvail de broderie ...
Ginnie Hart: I so agree, Claudine. It's really amazing what can be done with needle and thread.
This looks in perfect condition! Do you know how old it might be?
Ginnie Hart: Actually, Elizabeth, I have a feeling it may have been done this year because of the "2017 2018" in the image. There was a "Hollands Glorie" theme for which this was done. If I ever find out this is a pattern that can be purchased, I might buy it...and personalize it.
Oh! I hadn't noticed the dates.... Duh! smile
Ginnie Hart: Well, don't DUH yourself, Elizabeth, because they'd be easy to miss!

Wow, that's amazing!
Ginnie Hart: I know. It's one I would want to make, Robin, if I were ever to cross stitch again.
